How excited do those guys make you? I am so happy these guys are on our team, this defense is going to be sick.

Look at the NY Giants and see what a dominating pass rush does for you, and they didn't have a great secondary.

I just can't wait to see Lynch/Tuitt/Nix create so much heat and pain on opponents QB's. How would you feel if you were a QB coming in and these 3 now have 1 year under their belts, and ready to dominate.

I just can't wait. And Shembo/Hercules/Te'o are ready to take anybody down hard if they get past the 3 sophmore beasts.

Go Irish!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just noticed something. I've stood next to and in front of Manti, several times. Is Diaco that short, or is he just far away from Manti, so the camera's perspective is misleading?

SHIFT!!!!
KLM/Day/ Hounshell

Shembo/Niklas/Councell
SHIFT!!!!
Williams/Grace/Slaughter

Te'o
SHIFT!!!!
Te'o

Te'o: Hey Coach!!!! Couldn't Fox/ Moore/ Rabasa/ Spond/ Baratti/ Calabreese/ Jones/ Springmann/ Okwara mix in here a little and give me a play off once in a while???

Diaco: quit whinin' and play. You know how bad a bunch of recruiters we are; we've got no depth.

Ridiculous to think about. The level of talent, size, athleticism, and speed is reminiscent of an SEC, BCS caliber defense, not what we're used to seeing at ND. I personally can't wait to see the development of Niklas, Grace, Councell, and Ishaq this year. All of those guys have the chance to be absolute beasts.

Man, I am sorry Ishaq!! Totally left you off, man it is even more sick---these guys are going to dominate.

I agree, Moore is just a pure hitter IMO. I can't wait to see these guys again!!!!

Grace and Counsell are going to be fun too.

Diaco is really short. Shook his hand during the player's walk vs USC this year. I bet he's 5'7" maybe 5'8".

Hey, I did too! Which one were you? Seriously, I was right at the corner near the roses. I cannot remember how tall anyone was. I can only remember how sweaty Manti's had was, and how he looked like a wild animal.

Yeah, and his shoulders are much higher. What's up with that?

How tall was Nick Buoniconti? He made seven pro all-star teams, played in each of those bowl games and two Super-bowls, where in the 1973 season he was named the most valuable Dolphin defensive player for the year?

Not really! He may have been listed there but I have stood next to him, and I know someone who went to school with him. 5'9' MAX. That is exactly the point. We stretch, and our memories fade. Hell in school we were weighed with five and ten lbs. of iron in our girdle pad holders, took them out and stretched with twenty-five lbs hanging from our feet for twenty minutes before our height was recorded!

There's no way Diaco is 5'11". I literally shook his hand, I'm 5'8", 5'9" tops and he was no taller than me. Unless he was crouching down, swagged out and pimp limping, he is aout 5'8" lol.

I can't say exactly where I was. I don't go to school at ND, so I'm not really familiar with all of the buildings. Somewhere in the middle though, lol. After the player walk, I walked away surprised by two things. How short Diaco is and how ginormous Troy Niklas is.

Troy lives on the floor above me and I see him all the time. He is truly a monstrous kid. I'm 6' 2" and he towers over me. The nickname Hercules is definitely appropriate!

I couldn't find how tall Diaco is in my search, but he has to be at least 5'10". The guy played linebacker at Iowa and was a Butkis finalist, and last I checked, there aren't too many 5'8" star linebackers in college football over the last 30 years.

Twice an All-Big Ten selection at Iowa under Hall of Fame coach Hayden Fry, Diaco was a semifinalist for the Butkus Award as the nation’s top linebacker in 1995. That same season he was named the team’s co-MVP. He led the Hawkeyes in tackles in both 1994 and 1995 and finished his career as the seventh-leading tackler in Iowa history with 334 career stops. He also had 13 tackles for loss, broke up 10 passes and collected three sacks during his career. Diaco started all 23 games during his junior and senior seasons.

Lets just hope he lives up to the nickname on the field... That is a truly great nickname if he can prove it on the field. Hercules at Notre Dame, that just sounds epic. If we win a National Title with him, he will be one of the guys we talk about like "Rocket." :p

While picking up and holding Golson to see how much he weighs, one of you current students needs to find Diaco as well, line him up back-to-back, and see how tall he is. Or invite him over to your pad and measure him in the pantry doorway. Take a pic and post it here.

(Holding Golson while doing any of the above with Diaco is optional)

As long as he's taller than Stallone, Tom Cruise, Al Pacino, Eddie Murphy, and Mugsy Bogues...then I'm ok.

I guess I am glad he is only a coach then. Don't have to worry about height too much in that category of things.

A coach can't be successful in Kelly's system unless he's > than 6'0". Proven fact.

True story.

Hey, if we had Diaco and Gholson line up back to back would we kill the proverbial two birds with one stone?
