This kid is one of the top 3 recruits that I hope the Irish land. Should be interesting to see how much more we use Eifert and Koyack this year. I'm guessing that whoever wins the QB battle will be looking to the tight ends a lot. It was said that Breneman wanted to make a decision before the start of his senior season, but has backed off that now. Here's to the Eifert Tower having a huge year and I think he will.

Adam Breneman, Andrew Ford two of a kind - ESPN

Running on faith Five-star TE Adam Breneman, QB Andrew Ford have common bond on, off

By Jared Shanker

Archive CAMP HILL, Pa. -- Andrew Ford was the new kid in town. Adam Breneman was the big man on campus and Cedar Cliff's best football player.

But it took no time at all for Breneman and Ford to realize the two already had a lot in common.

"The first time I met him I remember he was wearing a bracelet that said 'WWJD' and I realized we share the same faith," Breneman said as Ford sat to his right. "Our motto is faith, family and football. It's something we take very importantly.

"... And I said I better become friends with my quarterback."

Andrew Ford and Adam Breneman have a connection both on and off the field. Breneman, a five-star tight end, took Ford under his wing despite only the one-year difference in class. Breneman is a junior, Ford a sophomore.

Ford, who will be the Colts' unquestioned QB this fall, went to a parochial school for his middle school years and was slated to attend Red Land High School -- Cedar Cliff's top rival -- before transferring to Cedar Cliff for high school for academic reasons. Befriending Breneman helped smooth Ford's transition.

"Everyone knows who Adam Breneman is," Ford said laughing. "When I walked into school he kind of took me around and introduced me to people. He made everything so much easier."

The presence of Breneman made Ford's transition on the field easier, too. The 6-foot-5, 225-pound tight end is the first five-star prospect at his position in the last four years. Ford, a lanky 6-foot-3, 180-pound southpaw, entered the season as a rotational quarterback but took over the reins midway through Cedar Cliff's first-round playoff game -- the Colts' first home playoff game in school history.

Trailing by two scores, Breneman and Ford hooked up four times for touchdowns. In the first half.

In that game, Breneman, who was triple-covered the entire second half, said you could see the culmination of the mental progress Ford made that season, his first on the varsity team.

"He could always throw the ball. God gave him that ability and thank God he did," Breneman said. "The big thing was mentally ... and the maturity he has as only a sophomore. He's making his reads. If the No. 1 or No. 2 guy isn't there he checks down to the third guy. A lot of young quarterbacks struggle with that, but he's doing it pretty well."

Colleges are now starting to take notice of Ford, who grew up idolizing former Penn State lefty quarterback Zack Mills. Ford has visited Maryland, Penn State and Rutgers and plans to hit the camp circuit during the summer.

Breneman is one of the most sought-after prospects in the East. One of 26 early five-star prospects, Breneman has 29 offers and all but one is from a BCS conference. Alabama, Florida, Notre Dame and Ohio State are just a handful of programs that highlight those scholarships.

For Breneman and Ford, who jokes about mooching off of Breneman's recognition, the recruiting process is something the two are constantly discussing.

"There isn't a day we don't talk about it," Breneman said. "We both love football and college, and we're both getting recruited. It's cool to kind of have a best friend also getting recruited with me. It helps us grow closer together on the field and off the field."

I like the fact he talked to Mike Frank on power hour tonight. Kid is offered by everyone, Notre Dame seems to be a major contender here.

Most seem to think its a PSU, ND, Ohio State battle. PSU on top right now.

We have a LOOOOOOOOOONG way to go before this one is decided. A couple "signature" wins this year would certainly make things easier on Booker and co.

Adam Breneman and his father, Brian, made sure to get out and see as many schools as they could in 2011. The Brenemans’ stops included Notre Dame, Penn State, Alabama, Rutgers, Virginia, Boston College, Maryland, and Pittsburgh among others.

Those miles are starting to pay off now for the nation’s top 2013 tight end from Cedar Cliff High School in Camp Hill, Pa.

“It has some benefit,” Breneman’s father said. “Since we were able to travel out to a bunch of schools, we have a baseline understanding of the universities, the facilities, the academics, so with the coaching changes, it’ll allow us just to focus on those changes because we’ve kind of taken care of everything else.”

Breneman is hitting the road again. He was at Penn State on Friday with a scheduled stop at Ohio State next weekend followed by trips to Notre Dame, North Carolina and probably Michigan next month with others surely to be added to the itinerary.

“I look at this period of time, now through the spring, to be able to really let us know what’s happening with the team; any new coaches, coaching changes, talk about how Adam would fit into their offense,” Brian said. “It’s good because we won’t have as much work to do, with the exception of Ohio State, which is new.”

While the Buckeyes and Urban Meyer are new, the only thing new about Penn State is head coach Bill O’Brien. The scandal at Happy Valley certainly rocked Breneman, who admittedly grew up a big Penn State fan, but the hiring of the former New England Patriots’ offensive coordinator is the first step toward mending things.

“It was certainly shocking and disappointing,” Breneman said of the news that came out of Penn State in the fall.

“It was a distraction not knowing where things were headed and I think now that there’s a new coach in place, Adam and other recruits can kind of zero in on what that means for Penn State. It’s nice to have that now in place.”

O’Brien’s track record of using tight ends like Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez in his offense is definitely a positive. At one point, that was a strength Notre Dame had over the Nittany Lions, but the Irish are still pushing hard.

Breneman could end up in South Bend for Notre Dame’s Junior Day on March 24th or he might get there just before in order to get some additional individual time with the coaches. He’s already seen the campus and the gameday atmosphere during his trips to Notre Dame last summer and fall.

“We went out last June and we went out for the game, but we really didn’t sit down with the coaches during that gameday,” Breneman’s father said. “We’re just looking to reconnect with everybody and get kind of updated with their situation. I know Adam has been talking to the coaching staff a fair amount.”

The Irish have five coaches – Brian Kelly, Chuck Martin, Harry Hiestand, Scott Booker and Mike Denbrock – handling his recruitment.

Breneman isn’t quite ready to name a leader or even a list of favorites. Notre Dame would surely be on a list of favorites at this point, but it sounds Like Notre Dame should be in it until the end.

Here's the link to the power hour that was previously referenced. Starts off with the Breneman interview right away.
http://mike-frank.com/ph/21312.mp3

A few highlights:

Penn State, Notre Dame, Maryland and Viriginia are recruiting him the hardest. Notre Dame was the first "really big offer" and he was really excited about it. At this point he is not ready to confirm or deny that he is a Penn State lean.

Mom is probably coming with him on his Junior Day visit and he said I'm sure she will love it. I think this is a very positive sign.

Said his parents are great and are totally supportive. Said they will support him no matter how far away the college is that he chooses.

Mike Frank compared him to Tyler Eifert and Breneman said others have said the same thing. He said that's a great compliment and called Eifert arguably the best TE in the country.

Said he thinks he will probably announce his list of top schools fairly shortly.

Will not be an Early Enrollee

He's being recruited partially by Scott Booker right? If I remember correctly he really likes the connection they've made? This is going to be a battle here. I think it'll come down to PSU, OSU, and ND. I always worry regardless about Meyer, but Bradley's pedigree with Gronkowski and Hernandez has to intrigue Breneman.

Then again, look at the talent that has come through ND at TE lately. Breneman has to know that he'll be featured just like all of them have. Hope he comes here.

I like those quotes as well... is that referring to Notre Dame's Junior Day or Penn State's?
