I dated a girl whose 2nd grade teacher's niece's boyfriend's 2nd cousin (twice removed) sold a magazine subscription to Don Majkowski one time. I'll see if I can get any info.

I had no idea you were so connected! "Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good."

not trying to be a racist, but this prolly has something to do with the rooney rule...hopefully he stays we need a guy that relates to the recruits the way he does.

imo he's by far the best recruiter on our staff.

Rooney Rule only applies to head coaching and senior operation positions.

No disrespect to Chuck Martin, but Alford deserves to be ND's recruiting coordinator. He's brought in Nix & Lynch; among others and he recruits one of the toughest states. Along with a new position, I'd give him a raise, and he seems to connect well with recruits.

I like Alord. He stuck around after Weis was let go, secured recruits not knowing what his future would entail, helped to build a running game again at Notre Dame, and I'm sure more. Pay the guy, he deserves it, and we need to keep some stability on staff to show the program is committed.

It's my feeling that all the young-uns will ultimately go. The only one who we REALLY don't want to go is Diaco. We should bust every seam figuring out ways to create a Beamer/Foster thing here.

Also, I believe that Coach, as usual, is ahead of the curve in all this. It is why i think he hired two older coaches [Hiestand and Elliot] hoping that they would see Notre Dame as a great place to settle in for the rest of their careers.

I don't want to lose anyone, and we've had quite enough turnover this year already.... but we'll probably have this problem for a while.

GB is the man in the know with this situation!

From what I have heard earlier, it is more than likely as stated above the Rooney Rule, but Alford does deserve a chance if he gets it!

But as others said, I think he is the type that builds strong relationships with families, recruits, players and he would have a hard time doing that in the league. College game is suited for his style, but can't blame a man if the job is offered to him.

Recruiting coordinator doesn't equal best recruiter. Alford is best at forming relationships with players, and he'd have less of a chance to do this if he has to take on the responsibilities of a coordinator.

"I'm flattered they gave me an opporunity to go talk to them," he said. "[But] I love this place, and I'm a college football coach ... I'm a college guy. I like watching guys grow and become men."

For those of you already flashing back to Tim Hinton's similar proclamations weeks before leaving for Ohio State, Alford made sure to say that nothing was off the table. He said he wasn't trying to send any cryptic messages. He loves what he does, but, hey, every man has his price.

"If someone offers me $10 million to get out of coaching, I'll be the first one working at the bank of behind a desk, but in all sincerity I love where I'm at."
Love this guy.
