I agree with this sentiment.

It's not fair (or consistent) to praise a coach for the players he brings in, but not chide him for not being able to land players. You can't have it both ways.

and thats why I stay EVEN-KIELED when it comes to praise...hahaha

"I used to have a saying about players like that and that was I'd rather play against him for four games than with him for four years," Kelly on DGB

This should have never been said. There was no need to even comment on it and now the national media is picking it up.

We can throw hissy fits all we'd like, but last laugh will be on Deontay. I feel bad for the kid.

Look, losing this kid is bad, but a lot of the immediate feeling is timing. If we never thought we had him, we wouldn't feel so let down. We'd look at this class's quality and think it was pretty good.

The other thing is this: It's a pretty good class for a team coming off 8-5. Off the top of my head, only Ohio State and Fla, perhaps, did better with worse records, and they both have their individual circumstances that give/gave them advantages. If you want more top guys, you need to have a better record. But this group, with that record, is pretty good and points to credit for the recuiting staff and the good brand ND still has.

Finally, Kelly recruits to his system, which means you'll get guys who might not be ranked as high who turn out to contribute "disproporionately" to the system. He doesn't rely on a "five star" saving his team.

So let's not over-react too much. It still builds on last year, including giving us some top flight players.

And I'm hardly Pollyanna around here.

Personally I think the kid is a great player and would have liked to see him in blue and gold. I could care less if he choose Houston or anybody else but to screw Notre Dame over on NSD when they could have been recruiting someone else all along, well it's kinda douchey.

I feel like I'm breaking character a bit here, but oh well: who care? **** them.

I get where you are coming from, but whether we like it or not perception is reality and given the things that have been said in the past, we don't need comments like these making the rounds. What is wrong with just saying, "We wish him the best."

How would you guys feel if your a coach and you expect all 17 commits the this happens? The realness came out in the interview. I dont blame him at all.

You mean like Gunner Kiel did to LSU? It happens both ways.

I'm not saying you're wrong but can you elaborate of the giant tactical errors???

Rios, Westerkamp, McNamara, Ekanem, and Andrades come to mind...they all had strong initial and continuing interest but were told (in so many words) that we were waiting on others and that limited class size was a potential problem. Now we have none of them.

The minute a recruit is looking around, I think we should be signing up the next.

Kelly has said a few times during his presser "he is a kid that wants to be at ND" or "he knows what ND is about and wants to be here"

I feel terrible for him. Recruiting must take years off of these guys' lives.

Recruiting isn't an exact science if you just sign up the next after your premier guys start looking you lose out on guys like Lynch and tuitt.

WOW! I agree! Goes with his red face and screaming on Saturday! I could tolerate this crap with some wins but would rather have high character with his win/loss record at this point. Not losing hope yet but can someone get this guy a PR director!!!

Now I understand Houston. He ought to be playing with and against the best at Houston.

Wanted to list the 2012 season but I couldn't find it on their official site.

I think one of the main reasons we don't have classes of 25 is because 98% of our guys stay all four years. Some are complaining that we only have 16 well yeah because everyone stays here and we don't tell them to get lost once they're here. And seriously complaining about 16...I bet you wouldn't be complaining if Deontay signed here and guess what? That would put us at 17 and you would be saying how good the class is. Yet we have one less number and some are saying that Coach Kelly isn't getting the job done. Sure bad things happened at the end and gambles were made. What if we didn't take the gamble on Armsteads? We would be pissed that we didn't try for them, yet now some are pissed because we did take the gamble on them. Some people can never be satisfied apparently. All I know is that I trust in the coaching staff and that this is xbox where you get every 5 star you want. We will be fine, Go Irish!

No one is saying this is Kelly's fault. This was a complete blindside hit. Deontay brought this on himself for making such a terrible choice. Kelly has done everything right. Recruited the right players and went after the guys that are looking to succeed not only on the field, but as fathers, or in the workplace. I feel bad for this entire class in general. It just shows how many recruits just want their ticket to the NFL or want the easy way out. I commend the Mahone's, Kiel's, Odenigbo's, Garnett's that chose to pursue education as well as football. They prove that college ball is just about making it to the big leagues. It's about getting that degree. ND has run into a huge brick wall. This class in majority is completely negligent towards getting an education, and simply want to play football and head to the NFL, or care about a good track team, or want to be the big man on campus. I understand Decker, he chose his childhood team. Darby wants to excel, not just in football, but in track. I commend him for that, though he can do that at ND, and it would've been better for him to just say that first. But what DGB did, was ludicrous and it shows us that he is NOT Notre Dame material. I refuse to believe that Houston? Made that much of an impression that he would steer away from the Irish in just one visit. I hope he has a healthy career, but he isn't setting himself up for success this way. I don't wish him the best, because clearly the best isn't at Houston.

Our coaches are slack. Yeah.

Amir, Prestwood, Lynch, Tuitt, Ishaq.

Give it a rest.
All those guys are from last year except Amir. Everybody knows or should know that you cannot compete for BCS championships without having top recruiting classwes nearly every year. We have to compete against teams like USC, OKlahoma, Michigan, and Stanford-all of whom had a better recruiting class than ND.

I don't understand the negative response to that quote by Kelly. ND won't be playing against DGB nor DB any time in the next 4 years.

I mean DGB or DG...my brain thought it, but my fingers didn't get the message
