Tigers To Sign Prince Fielder: MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com

The Tigers have agreed to sign Prince Fielder to a nine-year, $214MM contract Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports on Twitter. Fielder will play first base and Miguel Cabrera will change roles, Heyman adds. The agreement will keep Fielder in the Motor City through his age 36 season for an average annual value of $23.78MM.

The 27-year-old first baseman will join Cabrera in the middle of the Tigers' order to create more than enough offense to make up for the loss of Victor Martinez.

Though the market for Fielder seemed far from robust at times this offseason agent Scott Boras has found an unexpected suitor once again. Yahoo's Tim Brown first reported that the sides were close to a deal.

Good get Tigers. My White Soxs cashed it in about a year and half ago. You guys will run away with the central.

Great pickup for Detroit. Looking forward to hearing from Miggy about his feelings on moving to DH (I'm assuming that will be his role). We'll see how this deal looks for them six years from now, but for the "now" I think this makes Detroit heavy favorites in the Central for the next half-decade, at least.

I was just going to post this. Love this move for my Tigs!!! I am still wondering if they plan to move miggy back to 3rd, it would cause some concerns defensively considering peralta doesn't have the best range along with Cabrera. Either way happy with this move.

Hard to imagine Miggy going back to third. Seems like that ship sailed a few years ago. If he were going to play the field, I'd think a corner OF spot would be more of a fit. He'd still be a liability defensively, but not as much as at third. With VMart out, I'd say the smart money is on DH, but players seem to hate that for some reason.

Fielder will play first base and Miguel Cabrera will change roles, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports tweets. Victor Martinez will miss most or all of the 2012 season with a torn ACL, so it's possible that Cabrera will DH this year. He has only played 14 games at third base since being traded to Detroit after the 2007 season, but a return to the hot corner seems to be a possibility for Cabrera.

I'd be surpised if Cabrera sees time at third this year. He's put on some serious weight since playing there before. I'm guessing Cabrera DH's most of the time with Victor being out all year. Also, 3B prospect Castellanos is supposed to be sweet.

Either way, great get for the Tigers. What a sick lineup Leyland will be trotting out there. Don't sleep on Boesch and Avila either.

I fully support getting paid a million dollars or so per pound. Prince Fielder, you're my hero.

Sincerely,

Miggy won't be dissapointed with the move to DH...Less running.

I'm willing to bet that he is outta shape faster than Fielder is....LOL

Victor Martinez is out for the year. I'll still take the Yankees, Red Sox, Rangers, and maybe the Angels lineup over the Tigers
