"How Not To Get Overly Hysterical: Lesson 751, The Future Of The O-Line".
Bottomline: no sky is falling... in any of the scenarios. It's just easier on the staff with Taylor than without him. Kelly, Martin, and Hiestand will produce a monster (and a bunch of NFLers) either way.
It didn't take long for the rumors to start swirling that Decker was looking to switch his pledge to the in-state Buckeyes, and despite the report that he has made the decision to stay close to home instead, Notre Dame's second verbal commitment of 2012 is still committed.
"As of now I haven't done anything like that," he told BlueandGold.com.

Let him go to OSU and compare it to ND. He has been to ND many times and knows all there is to know about the place. If he likes OSU better, that's fine. Otherwise, it's a 1 on 1 battle I gladly welcome. OSU ain't got nothing on ND.
except recent success on the field and a coach with some NC's lol
Perhaps it is a big factor in his decision. Every kid is different. Decker sounded more like a kid that would go where he feels comfortable the most. He also seemed like a kid that value a great education. I don't know. We'll see.

Notre Dame is a bit undermanned when it comes to dedicated O-Linemen currently on scholarship or with verbals. I harp about this all the time, I know, sorry. Let's count:
ZMartin, Watt, Cave, Lombard, Prestwood, NMartin, Hanratty, Hegarty, Heggie, Nichols, Carrico = 11 on roster. Stanley, Harrell = 2 solid verbals. Decker = wildcard. Golic= wildcard. Springmann = wildcard. Garnett = wildcard.
13 roster + solid verbals, with say 15 "ideal" [I'm only coming off my 16 number, since we had a fivesome last year when Prestwood came in].
Scenario 1: Decker does comes. Resultant: no real problems.
Scenario 2: Decker does not come but Garnett does. Resultant: no real problems.
Scenario 3: Neither Decker nor Garnett, nor a surprise OT comes. Resultant: Hiestand "makes do" with Martin, Watt, Cave, Lombard, Prestwood, Hegarty, NMartin, and Hanratty or Nichols as the "eight" who actually play. Pretty darn good group. Golic could even figure in.
But what about the post Cave, Watt, ZMartin future in this scenario three? Lombard, Hegarty, Prestwood, NMartin, Hanratty, Nichols, Stanley, Harrell make "eight" without counting on development with Carrico or Heggie, which could happen positively in either player's case, nor would it take into account a crossing of the line by Springmann. AND there would be next year's linemen too.
The point of the post is to indicate two things:
1). Notre Dame has a lot of talent on the O-Line for Hiestand to build a smashing fist with a few substitute fingers. It will be a little thin if some guys don't develop, but coaches around the country would love to have our guys to work with.
2). The fact that it would be a little thin, and has some uncertainty as to the foreseeable two-deeps, SHOULD indicate to Decker, & Garnett, [and Stanley & Harrell] that great opportunity exists here --- as much as any place, including OSU.
Bottomline: no sky is falling... in any of the scenarios. It's just easier on the staff with Taylor than without him. Kelly, Martin, and Hiestand will produce a monster (and a bunch of NFLers) either way.
I hope so, that's what I'm banking on.. however, I was just commenting on the guy who said OSU has nothing on ND and it's no secret they've been more successful than us over the last 10 years and they have one of the best coaches/recruiters in college football (no matter how big of a scumbag he is).. here's to hoping he's true to his word
I was talking about the school in general and the facilities, not necessarily about football success. Besides, it's not like ND has a bad coach either. Him being from Ohio, I'm sure he knows all about Kelly and what he has done before.

yeah BK isn't a bad coach, but he's no Urban Meyer.. interested to see how this plays out
THANK GOD FOR THAT. You don't have to be the best coach in world, but, in my book, you must have character. Urban Meyer has zero of that. Probably why his health is shot, its hard on humans to live a constant lie without breaking down physically.

Do we know how long Decker is at pOSU?
