That's a really good idea; one that I'm entertaining as well. See you in February, trinity.

"How Not To Get Overly Hysterical: Lesson 751, The Future Of The O-Line".

Bottomline: no sky is falling... in any of the scenarios. It's just easier on the staff with Taylor than without him. Kelly, Martin, and Hiestand will produce a monster (and a bunch of NFLers) either way.

I agree with the gist of the post, but I do see a reason for concern, generally speaking, because, in a week's time or so, we've lost two coaches and (possibly) a commit to a school that will always be a threat to us in recruiting: OSU has a definite direct feeder scheme from the state's high schools with a positive rep with those schools' coaches, easier admissions, easier academics, an easier schedule, and an easier route to the BCS. (I'll avoid the cheap shot regarding the plethora of possible side benefits not related to the "education" they'll get.) I will say that my concern is softened by the possibility that, if the young man goes to OSU, it might well be because of his relationship with Warriner, rather than being indicative of some magic that Meyer has, or some trend. I am hoping the young man will stay.

Decker Still Committed to Irish

It didn't take long for the rumors to start swirling that Decker was looking to switch his pledge to the in-state Buckeyes, and despite the report that he has made the decision to stay close to home instead, Notre Dame's second verbal commitment of 2012 is still committed.

"As of now I haven't done anything like that," he told BlueandGold.com.

"As of now" doesn't inspire a lot of confidence that we'll keep him. I hope Kelly sends Heistand to meet him as soon as he's back from this OV.

"As of now..." most ND fans are driving to their local bridge in preparation of jumping off.

Relax guys, we'll live.

I've come to the belief that Decker is only visiting to babysit for Meyer because of a certain heart condition requires him to get a quiet night out at the movies with his wife. Since he is getting paid to babysit, he cannot commit to OSU.

Less than 2 weeks ago ND fans were arguing about what 5/4 star player the team wouldn't be able. Now the sky is falling!!! We all need to relax, grab a beer and enjoy the crazyness that is recruiting this time of year. We all know that UM is a snake who will steal some recruits over the next couple of year. We also know that coach Kelly is not going to let this happen with out fight and will win his fair share and maybe even steal one or 2 recruits himself. Bottin line... Sucks if the kid ends up at tO$U but this team will still be good with or without him.

Let him go to OSU and compare it to ND. He has been to ND many times and knows all there is to know about the place. If he likes OSU better, that's fine. Otherwise, it's a 1 on 1 battle I gladly welcome. OSU ain't got nothing on ND.

Perhaps it is a big factor in his decision. Every kid is different. Decker sounded more like a kid that would go where he feels comfortable the most. He also seemed like a kid that value a great education. I don't know. We'll see.

I hope so, that's what I'm banking on.. however, I was just commenting on the guy who said OSU has nothing on ND and it's no secret they've been more successful than us over the last 10 years and they have one of the best coaches/recruiters in college football (no matter how big of a scumbag he is).. here's to hoping he's true to his word

"How Not To Get Overly Hysterical: Lesson 751, The Future Of The O-Line".

Notre Dame is a bit undermanned when it comes to dedicated O-Linemen currently on scholarship or with verbals. I harp about this all the time, I know, sorry. Let's count:

ZMartin, Watt, Cave, Lombard, Prestwood, NMartin, Hanratty, Hegarty, Heggie, Nichols, Carrico = 11 on roster. Stanley, Harrell = 2 solid verbals. Decker = wildcard. Golic= wildcard. Springmann = wildcard. Garnett = wildcard.

13 roster + solid verbals, with say 15 "ideal" [I'm only coming off my 16 number, since we had a fivesome last year when Prestwood came in].

Scenario 1: Decker does comes. Resultant: no real problems.
Scenario 2: Decker does not come but Garnett does. Resultant: no real problems.
Scenario 3: Neither Decker nor Garnett, nor a surprise OT comes. Resultant: Hiestand "makes do" with Martin, Watt, Cave, Lombard, Prestwood, Hegarty, NMartin, and Hanratty or Nichols as the "eight" who actually play. Pretty darn good group. Golic could even figure in.

But what about the post Cave, Watt, ZMartin future in this scenario three? Lombard, Hegarty, Prestwood, NMartin, Hanratty, Nichols, Stanley, Harrell make "eight" without counting on development with Carrico or Heggie, which could happen positively in either player's case, nor would it take into account a crossing of the line by Springmann. AND there would be next year's linemen too.

The point of the post is to indicate two things:
1). Notre Dame has a lot of talent on the O-Line for Hiestand to build a smashing fist with a few substitute fingers. It will be a little thin if some guys don't develop, but coaches around the country would love to have our guys to work with.
2). The fact that it would be a little thin, and has some uncertainty as to the foreseeable two-deeps, SHOULD indicate to Decker, & Garnett, [and Stanley & Harrell] that great opportunity exists here --- as much as any place, including OSU.

Bottomline: no sky is falling... in any of the scenarios. It's just easier on the staff with Taylor than without him. Kelly, Martin, and Hiestand will produce a monster (and a bunch of NFLers) either way.

This^.

I was talking about the school in general and the facilities, not necessarily about football success. Besides, it's not like ND has a bad coach either. Him being from Ohio, I'm sure he knows all about Kelly and what he has done before.

Ain't it just great how Urban came up to ND last offseason and learned the in's and out's of Brian Kelly's program and how it is ran. Now he is using it all to his advantage this offseason, and i thought scUM was the one that had to worry about ohio the most on the recruiting trail? Dirty Son of a B****!!!!

Keep it related to Decker guys. There's other threads dedicated to the several topics being posted that you can post there.

This is a good idea trinity. It'll save mods a lot time. Thanks.

Decker is a player at a spot that we are loaded with depth (thanks to Prestwood). He's not gone yet though, so let's hope for the best...

THANK GOD FOR THAT. You don't have to be the best coach in world, but, in my book, you must have character. Urban Meyer has zero of that. Probably why his health is shot, its hard on humans to live a constant lie without breaking down physically.

yeah possibly.. for others they might care about results more than character.. to each his own.. I don't want to get into an argument defending Meyer I personally hate the guy, but he is a better coach than Kelly and has some titles to back it up.. I hope Kelly can someday be on his level as far as coaching goes

urban is going to kick our ace in recruiting until we start winning games...bottom line

although, what can we expect from him wanting to go after ohio boys, regardless who they're committed to.

All is fair in love, war, and recruiting... I get it. It just ticks me off that Meyer was on campus chumming it up this past summer for that Game Day special.
