I would have to dig deeper to know for sure on the 5th year numbers, but in Notre Dame's case, that is the only place I could see the spot coming from. We aren't going to cut any guys like USC or the SEC.

Kelly may be anticipating a transfer or two, but other than that, it'd have to come at the expense of a 5Y.

I will make this comment though. I said earlier in the season that I think weirder things have happened than not returning KLM. I was obviously flamed and bashed for it, but I still feel that way today. I'm not saying that he isn't important to our team or that I think he should go. Quite the contrary. But I still wouldn't be shocked if when the numbers came down, if he was left in the cold. We are a young team with a lot of DL talent, and Kelly has made it very clear that he wants "his guys". I love KLM and I am sure Kelly does too, but I could easily see him not returning if it meant we got a guy like Neal or Armstead. We aren't going to drop a guy for just anybody, but if a special talent is available, I have a feeling that we would make the move.

Just my opinion though.

It's defensible. Of the 5Y "locks", KLM is the most expendable.

When do OSU's scholarship reductions take effect? Will they have capacity issues?

Can you imagine being a teenager and getting grounded by your parents and letting them know when you will implement the grounding??? What could be more wrong with this picture?

This is probably a stupid question, but does Greg Biggins mean that he will likely sign with OSU the week after NSD, or just in general?

Yeah, Ohio State (like USC) appears to already be out of scholarships looking at the number of kids taken in the last 4 classes. But that obviously isn't the case. Wish I knew how many scholarships they did have open. Anyone got eyes on that? I'm pretty sure you can't oversign in the Big Ten.

The one thing that gives me hope is that Neal seemed to understand what ND was about, and might actually like the size and feel of the school and students. OSU could not be more different in that regard, so it is not just choosing between coaches.

The big picture would suggest that Neal goes OSU. Urban usually gets what he wants, he is as charismatic of a salesman I have ever seen. His voice and demeanor are so impressive, he just carries himself like a leader that you should follow.

More importantly, his episode a couple of years ago does not seem to have cost him too much. I thought that it was going to have a major impact with recruits since it basically undermined his whole sale's pitch. He consistently told recruits that he wanted to coach them so badly, Florida was family, he'd be there forever, they were special to him, championships, etc. (real warm and fuzzy stuff, like Coach K). Then he quit. At first he said it was about his health but then kind of changed his tune again and made it sound like it was about family. He was clearly losing control of his team at the same time, and he was losing Tebow and had lost the heir, Cam Newton. Then Urban changed his mind again, despite all the public promises to his actual family ("I don't want to miss their growing up...") and got an epic haul for Florida in recruiting. Then he quit after NSD despite promises that he would be around the Gator "family" for the long haul. Kids were really confused, and some felt betrayed, but Urban went on to do his "college football needs cleaning-up" campaign and all was forgotten. NCs buy a lot of credibility.

I think it exposed him as a man who is conflicted between wanting to do the right thing, and really understanding what that is, and wanting to win at all costs and consistently erring on that side of the ledger. He is a strange and complicated man.

So was Jim Jones, but that ended in a horror dubbed "The Jonestown Massacre" in the late 70'. The devil sure works in mysterious ways (ahem, Urban Liar)!

As a general rule, it's safe to assume that any recruit who intends to announce after NSD isn't coming to ND.

Just means Meyer will push kids out sooner than later.

Word has it that 2-3 kids will be kicked off the team in the near future.

Honestly, if it's guys like Jamal Berry then I'm all for it. I've heard Urban is really putting the clamp down on the team, he knows how big of jackasses a lot of them are. Good for him.
