NM.

I guess he does.

Ronnie is far from the central hub of Voltron for me right now.

I would classify him Voltron's underside of his tail at this moment.

;)

With all due respect.

For the life of me, I'll NEVER understand why these losers take to Facebook and Twitter (and yes, even Irish Envy) just to rip these high school kids behind the cover of a keyboard, especially considering it's been proven time and time again that it hurts the school you root for. Sorry, but it's pathetic...

Probably because most of these types of fans have an imbalanced perspective on football and lose all sense of respect when their fantasy is threatened. Clearly, age isn't the predominant factor in causing a person to discard rationality. I also can't understand a fanbase that rips its own players (ala Tommy, Dayne, etc.), but that is another topic for debate.

I would say that if Darby was actually deterred by crazy ND fans, I'm not completely surprised. Every school in this country has them, and it's impossible to police them. ND has been particularly embittered for years now by dashed high hopes and unrealistic expectations. This dilemma has created a strange tension that makes the crazies especially high strung and pessimistic.

With that said, for every crazy there is a sane person to counter the drama, and ND has some of the greatest and most knowledgable fans on the planet. Darby knows this! I just hope he remembers it as he is weighing his options.

I know people are saying that Ron is trying to justify his decommitment from ND because of track reasons, but I honestly believe that could very well be why he did. Perhaps he feels that track is his real future and not football? I have no doubt that Clemson has been throwing that CJ Spiller - Jacoby Ford pitch at him.

You have to remember these are teenagers making one of the most important decisions of their life. We get to choose from thousands of student/athletes every year, they have one chance to choose a University.

And it's a hard-arse decision at that. Imagine all the pressure these guys are under??? Everyone in your family wanting you to go somewhere, everyone in your school pestering you about your choice, reporters from up to 5 different sites (Rivals, Scout, ESPN, MaxPreps, and 24/7) from every school recruiting you wanting to interview you plus the local newspapers, not to mention the free sites all talking about you, now we have facebook and twitter stalkers, etc etc. It's gotta be insane! ANd believe me, I can't stand it when kids decommit and go back on their word, but hey, coaches might be pulling some shady stuff too, and you just never know what's going on in a young man's mind. It's all crazy.

Hey, great post. I knew you were a good dude when I met you at one of those ISD tailgates. -Magoo

My man!!! Good conversation no doubt! Too bad it was hot as hell that day and the beer got warm LOL. I'll be at pretty much every home game next year, so hit me up if you make it back down there...

I still don't know why everyone assumes that the crazy fans that rip on the recruits on Facebook, Twitter, are really the crazy fans they claim to be. I bet some of the worst are fans from rival schools and are doing it on purpose. Its not like there are background checks.

With hard work and luck, you'll be competing for playing time in a year or two. Come to Michigan and crap on OSU everyday. If you go anywhere else its because you are a coward and are afraid of competition. GO BLUE!!!!!"

Michigan fans! Sheesh.

I started this whole essage board thing being a reg. on the ESPN boards like ten or so years ago... before another ND reg. pointed me here...

I saw many, MANY instances where people posed as say, Notre Dame fans, acted like Jack-offs... then come to find out they were really USC, Michigan or whatever fans... some OTHER base...

happened ALL THE TIME... to just about every team...

I'm sure it still does now...

When I read this I honestly thought to myselft that if I met this guy I would try to kill him. This had to have been a joke, right? We are not a joke? Really? Because you had a decent season in a terrible conference and then you beat a team-- a team that had no business being in a BCS game--after they dominated your ***?

Maybe Michigan isn't a joke....but their fans sure as hell are.

How much effort do you think the staff puts back into recuiting him or has this ship totally sailed? They still have an in-house visit correct?

It's tough to lose out on his speed and playmaking ability which is something Notre Dame still needs desperatly. After watching last night what Slick Nick has built in Alabama that fact has come to light even more. While Notre Dame has made strides in the size and strength department, overall team speed is still lacking.

Wow, I didnt know that picture of me was on the net! My mom says I am so handsome

Note: Italics are the sarcasm font. Grahambo, that may be the funniest pic I have seen in a while. Mainly because our computer tech in my school system could pass for that guy's twin

it'll be interesting to see if either les or saban come after him now that they can focus their attention on recruiting.

Exactly my point. I am still trying to figure out if NDNation is for real or not.

Since the news is minimal for a few days, and I have no clue as to the circumstances of his decision and the reality of the situation now, I feel completely qualified to offer my opinion.

It's pretty likely that Mr. Darby will develop into a great player over the next few years. Certainly his speed gives him a leg up on that likelihood, or maybe inevitability.

When he committed a few months back, he obviously saw in Notre Dame something that compelled him to make that decision. It seems to me that nothing has changed since then. Same school, same ethics, same academics, campus, students, professors, weather, coach, tradition, etc.....

Now maybe his priorities have changed, people grow and learn and he's a smart kid, I just can't see his core values being that different now.

Notre Dame is at a distinct disadvantage in college football now. Over signing, gray shirting, cutting players, those are big and unfair advantages for the schools that do that. The number of recruits eligible to get in Notre Dame are limited, and we aren't going to get all of the ones who can. I am constantly amazed at the guys we do get. I'll give the coaching staff credit for that.

Even with our limitations in getting players, the day will come when we have the right makeup to compete at the highest level. We're closer than we've been in a while. Maybe we can't sustain that level year to year like an Alabama, but we can be in the conversation. Even the Alabama's of the world have their off years.

I can't pull for those schools, ethically they have sold out to the game and money. Successfully competing by doing things the right way, taking care of our kids and their future means that when that success happens for Notre Dame, it will mean so much more.

As far as Darby goes, I want him. I want him first because of the kind of kid he is. He's not a media hog, he's not tweeting every thought he has. He's a good kid that fits Notre Dame. I also believe his skills, while significant at any school. will be the stuff of Legends at Notre Dame. Twenty years later we still compare to Rocket. Darby's impact could be that legendary, especially if we win. If he goes somewhere else, he'll have an impact for sure but one thing he won't have is being the "Darby of Notre Dame".

I wish him success, and I'm going to be a little grumpy if we ultimately lose him. But, I will also have Aunt Bea's apple pie to soothe my wounds, and Otis' apple cider to raise my spirits.

And yea, I had nothing better to do this morning.

I didn't know you were that old! Actually other than Nanker, OMM, and Alamo, I thought everyone my age was gone! Look at the CPU in the picture, yup, an IBM XT type chasis! And the 5 1/4 inch diskettes, 360k or 1.2Mb depending on the density, the latest in technology in 1983! (Seriously, I think I worked with that guy)

I really appreciate everything that you wrote. Glad you took time to do it, because I agree whole-heartedly with your perspective. If there is one thing that I would want Mr. Darby to read off IE while he is reconsidering his options, it would be this. Thanks.
