Here's hoping the staff can bring him back in the fold.

The thoughts of we can replace them with Yuri/Poole are unreasonable-they aren't in the fold either.

Darby is the kid I would love see playing for the Irish-he seems like a difference maker.

Two decommits now and both were part of that facebook group, right?

I believe Kelly still has his in-house left with Darby. I imagine he's been saving it until late in the game because he knew this possibility existed. Time to go balls out for Darby (and Poole and Wright).

So which school most likely to get Darby's commitment IF ND isn't able to get him back? Is he talking/leaning towards Maryland, F$U or who?

I hope ND is able to get him back because he proved that he can be a lock down CB but if not, I am not really upset over this. If he didn't want to be at ND then it's not meant to be. Good Luck to him hopefully in a ND uniform.

Has anyone been able to confirm whether or not Diaco was actually in-house with Darby's family last night? I can't tell if whomever said that last night was joking or reporting good info.

Im 99.9% sure that was a joke lol.

However there should have def been phone calls placed, surprised im not reading anything about that this morning.

Coaches should obviously know whats up, and we will know if we are truly out of the mix if Kelly or Diaco dont show up at his house on the 13th b4 he leaves for his FSU visit. Im pretty sure i read thats what hes doing on the 13th anyways

1. Darby left the FB group awhile back, and not just last night
2. Perkins still drops by the FB group, and it appears academics led to his "decommit," not a change of heart

I'm not saying the stupid FB group led Darby one way or the other, but being the lone commit at the UA game and bonding with FSU commits is probably a better reason than what some dummies were saying over the interwebs.

With that said, it isn't over yet.

Folks,
A few comments regarding this whole situation.

First, I am actually really proud of keeping these pretty positive and avoiding the bashing in light of Darby de-committing. These things are a reality of recruiting today. Kids will commit, de-commit and sometimes re-commit. It is crazy wild for all involved, players, parents, coaches, fans and media trying to follow it all. Keep the positive vibe and stay classy.

Second, whether he de-committed due to some facebook stuff or not, this is further evidence that EVERYONE should stay away from following these recruits on facebook, twitter and any other personal places. It just breeds problems. Let the media report and keep your distance.

Third, every person in here had feelings in the back of their mind that this kid would be about the toughest to keep. He was always saying he was committed "at this time" to ND. He was at best a soft verbal for months. Let him go look at his options and we may get him back yet.

Finally, trust your coaching staff. Kelly, Diaco and crew have proven they will not give up until the very end. If there is any chance to get him back, they will.

Stay Classy and remain positive!!

Didn't he say that ND keeping their recruiting class intact would go a long way towards him staying with ND? haha

Another point of note:

Although everyone knew Darby was special, do you think that after his absolutely dominant display at the UA game, coaches started literally throwing themselves at him instead of casually recruiting him? I could see guys "cranking it up to 11" after watching him play in that game.

kinda wish it would have been that way from the get go.

although, it's gotta be hard to prepare for a bowl game and recruit. now that we can focus 100% on recruiting i'm hoping this will turn out well in the end.

As Notre Dame fans, I think we should really practice acting like we know what we're doing and we've been through this before. Some of us get so worked up.

I'd love to have him at Notre Dame. Mr. Darby is a promising young recruit, but JUST that, like all other recruits, he comes with possibilities, no guarantees.

We need to chillax a little and let the coaches work on it. If it's meant to be.......

so the fsu staff was "all over" Darby at UA game according to the people who know such things.
so, where were the ND coaches?
did any attend the UA game?
if so, who?
we know there was like 5 of them in san antone--but were they down in fla?

Well, for me, this situation is not great but let's contemplate what's real here as regards Notre Dame football:

1). we've all been dreaming of a team ultimately with two All-American corners on the field. In our not-completely-outrageous fantasy, they have been Tee Shepard and Ronald Darby. Darby may be gone. Well, in an "average" recruiting season, I'd take one All-american Corner and consider myself fortunate.

2). Oh, woe!! We're dead!! Well, we're not exactly dead really are we? There's Lo Wood, who Diaco felt was ready to play, and played him. And there's Atkinson, Jackson, Prosise, and just maybe another corner yet this year. Think about those names. Those guys are pretty good athletes. We will field two promising corners next season, no matter which two win the pre-season competition. Everyone can have their intuitive favorite newcomer here, but my intuition says that Josh Atkinson has the speed and the attitude and the confidence for this.

3). It's not like our corners won't have a lot of help. Yes, it's too bad that Harrison won't be back there to clean up the mistakes, but otherwise we're loaded at safety, so much so that we're going to be able to spare a safety here and there for creative speed-defense purposes, and maybe even "permanently" for linebacking [Baratti? or even Shumate? or Badger?]. AND what our d-line brings ... well, no need for further comment.

Young Mr. Darby SHOULD come to ND for reasons far beyond football. Hopefully he still will. Notre Dame will be a fine football team regardless. We could of course use his wonderful talent. Clemson could too, after West Virginia put 70 on them in the bowl game. Pretty embarrassing. Wouldn't have happened at ND. At least he would know that he was on a team which battled right to the final whistle regardless.

Notre Dame is general excellence and character. That is what we offer. I thought that it was a great privilege to attend here. Anyone should.

I can't tell anyone what to do, but it seems to me that considering that recruits do follow what fans do on message boards, we should at least keep our comments respectful to each other as ND fans.

Am I disappointed? Heck yeah!

Would I like R. Darb to re-commit after looking around? Without a doubt. He's the kind of athlete ND needs and I think he'd represent ND well as a student and athlete.

These kids (they are teenager, minds not fully formed) are under tremendous pressure from adults (parents, fans, boosters, and esp coaches) to do something for them (commit). These coaches know and use every psych trick in the book to get these H.S. student athletes, who are getting smarter about, but are still teenagers. Believe it or not, coaches use many of the same psych tactics that our CIA uses to get foreigners to put themselves in real physical danger to spy for the US. That's a LOT of pressure.

What do I mean respectful to each other? I want ND to win (the right way). You do too. Let's not poison the well and give R. Darby and any other H.S. student/football player every reason to want to come back. There is nothing wrong with being disappointed and expressing that publicly - that's what these boards are for!

I do have one final (I hope lol) comment regarding all this recruiting stuff.

When an 18 year old kid deciding not to play football for your favorite school is some big drama to you, take a step back. Your life must be good when that is the bad news. Be thankful for what you have and have faith that all will be okay.

Beau says that this is his final comment. Set up a vbucks gambling thread for how long it lasts. :)

Ha.

[By the way, the very nice "soft philosophical" comments were in consciousness-splitting variance with the murderous dude pointing the gun at us. "If you don't get nicer, I'm going to kill you to teach you a lesson!!". Yep, I know, Whiskey, another one of the nicer guys on the board, started it. ].

I'm pretty sure what sucks isn't recruiting, though it is flawed. (It could be fixed by implementing basketball like rules.) And from what I have seen, everyone of these kids is exemplementary, even the most radically behaved one that doesn't pick ND.

For myself, I don't post much anymore, but I wanted to take this opportunity to say, OMM speaks with wisdom, all of the time, and 80 percent of the posters just don't listen. It isn't about X's and O's, or algorithms, or who gets what recruit; it's about honor. Other than a relatively few posts on this hundred plus page thread, you show me where the honor that is Notre Dame is.
