The scores are relatively equal between ND admits and NW admits. ND admits 24% by math found here, admissions data found here and here from Northwestern says they admit 27%.
(1600 scale) SAT for an ND student is 1370 to 1500 for middle 50%.
(1600 scale) SAT for an Northwestern student is 1350 to 1520 for middle 50%.
So they're darn near equal in every metric for selectiveness of high school students.

FWIW, I went to ND, didn't get in to NW. Was applying about 15 years ago.
Northwestern does tend to be ranked a bit higher by the likes of US News, though at least in part because it has more better grad programs and a big med school.
I'd bet ND gets more applications from kids for whom it's their first choice, just because it's ND. This probably skews the %s on both admissions and yield. We may get more applicants for whom it's a reach, but get more accepted kids to come. Just a hunch.
Either way, they're two of the three best undergrad schools in the Midwest (the other being Wash U in St. Louis). Can't go wrong, really.

ND gets brought down in USN&WR because of the "peer ranking" or whatever it is called. Basically, all Cali schools pump each other up and Catholic schools get hated on HARD. ND comes in above Northwestern and a bunch of other schools at #12 when you pull out that stat.
Like I said, they're basically identical in acceptance rate... identical in applicant test scores... both really, really good schools that you can't go wrong at. ND has some better undergrad programs for sure, NW has some world renowned graduate schools like Kellogg... it's really half dozen of one and six of another.
Got to applaud Ifeadi for picking a school for the SCHOOL if/when he ends up at Northwestern. I love it when "athletes" make a choice like normal high school "students" do.

They accept about 40% (I believe) early decision, which means you have to go there. They accept under 20% regular decision, I think maybe even under 17%, while ND is about 23 or 24% regular decision.

The only Cali schools US News ranks ahead of us overall are Cal Tech and Stanford. I love ND but I'm not going to argue with that.
You can pull out whatever stats you want to make the point you want to make. Like I said, I think NW gets props in US News and other rankings for having stronger grad programs. Med schools are huge in this and we don't have one. And grad school weighs heavy in the peer rankings, too, not because of Catholicism but because the professors who vote in this stuff care more about prestige and research funding than about teaching undergrads.
But for 18-23 year-old kids looking for a good education, I think ND and Northwestern are close enough as makes no difference. This kid sounds like he wants to make the most of whatever world-class university he winds up attending on a football scholarship. Good for him.

Are we arguing over which school is more selective in the hopes that Ifeadi might get denied at NW too (don't count on it) or as an indirect way of arguing over which is a better school?

As for IO - what is it about ND that's keeping him looking elsewhere? I mean, is it simply that we don't offer the program he's looking for (at least in terms of notoriety)? Or is there some other reason we were supposedly 3rd in this 3-horse race?

I like how you can pull these stats out on pretty much every recruiting rival but I don't think it necessarily applies for NU. Many of their graduates (more so than ND) go into academic fields such as research which will be significantly lower paying than going into business. So in this case I don't believe difference in ROI is a good representative of education quality.
1. Income isn't equivalent to education quality. Its more representative of the field, which leads to point #2.
2. ND has an undergraduate business school. Most schools don't.
2B. ND has an engineering program which gives it an earnings edge over other schools, but how many football engineers do we have?
3. Including only people with Bachelor's and no grad degree is dumb, as these days that rules out a large percentage of graduates, and perhaps a majority by now or soon. Furthermore, people from other schools often get into business with a.... MBA.
4. Any time you rely on self-reported income and its not representative, you get into an issue. ND alums are more loyal, etc.
