This community is awfully good at picking up whispers from all corners of the internet. I have a very hard time believing that a big-time 5th-year transfer (other than Armond Armstead) has managed to fly under the radar here and is about become public within the next few days.

This has got to mean that the Armstead brothers will be Irish imminently.

Hmmmm.... if the sources are sitting on the specific information there might be a reason to keep it under wraps, e.g. the individual in question has taken great pains to maintain secrecy.

So I'm feeling pretty confident in predicting that Marcus Lattimore saw South Carolina's ranking on the Whiskeyjack list and decided he wanted to move to the top of the expected earning range.

I agree. The only thing that doesn't fit is the "New Name". Can't imagine someone being on campus and it being kept quiet for 3 days. I know the kids are gone but that would make spotting someone easier. Going to be interesting.

Possible, but recruiting "secrets" are awfully hard to keep nowadays.

Reps. But on a more serious note, I doubt we'd take a transfer at a spot that isn't a current position of need. Assuming we don't lose Mahone or Russell, RB isn't really a need anymore since we'll have 6 on scholarship for 2012.

TP has confirmed it's not a QB. What other position could merit a 5Y transfer?

We'll be down to only 2 long snappers on scholarship next year. I'm guessing he's another LS.

I'm probably way wrong here.... but what about a guy like Kyle Prater at WR?

I think I'm wrong, because I don't think USC would allow that, but you could definitely consider WR a position of need going into next year.

I was thinking Prater as well, but he wouldn't be able to play this year.

I know your joking, but one of my friends has talked to the coaches, was a LS in high school and is going to get a chance in springball to make the team. Pretty cool.

Wish it was Armond Armstead. If it's not that probably means neither Arik or Armond will be at ND.

Ummm, yes please?

I agree that USC probably wouldn't willingly agree to release such an incredible athlete to its biggest rival, but perhaps the scholarship crunch is bad enough that they're willing to offload some WRs even if it helps us in the process. I still doubt it.

That's part of the reason why Armond Armstead makes sense. USC allegedly has no say in where he transfers (outside the Pac-12).

And from a #s standpoint, WR isn't a dire need at the moment. If our current verbals stick, we'll be at 10/12 for the 2012 season. Westerkamp would make 11. Neal/ Agholor would bring us up to full capacity.

Mike Frank on ISD says the transfer is not Armond.
