I wouldn't mind if Gunner waits to announce as long as he puts on our hat. What better exposure then to announce on a nationally televised network/program.

If he's going to be an EE and time is rolling near, I doubt that would be in his plans. Get it done and move forward .... no big fanfare necessary.

What about a fit problem? The same way that Tommy isn't a fit for the spread offense that Kelly runs, since Gunner is a pro-style quarterback is it possible that he just wont fit in with what we're trying to do?

Go watch his tape and get back to us.

Gunner has 10 times the physical ability as Rees does. If he commits, Kelly will find a spot for him.

Keil was molded by the football gods for this offense. Anyone who thinks otherwise is missing it.

He's not as mobile as Hendrix or Golsen, certainly more than Rees. Limits the offense, but the arm certainly makes up for it.

Just talking about the style that I prefer, that is of a Michael Vick mold rather than Tom Brady. I feel like those two represent the opposite odds of the spectrum. I feel that it is better to have a Vick in college than it is to have a Brady, college affiliations aside.

What are you talking about? He runs a version of the flippin' pistol. He has to make quick reads or take off. He runs plenty in his offense. He does in high school, exactly what Kelly wants for his system.

Kiel is certianly as mobile as Hendrix with better size. He doesn't have to mobility of Golson (spell his name right at least) but neither has any of the other QB's that have ever played under Kelly.

Keil is more Tebow than Vick when it comes to running style.

Kiel is probably as mobile, if not more, than Hendrix.

You have Vick and you have Brady---with a whole lot of QB's in between. It's not an either or assumption.

Honestly, in the recruiting world they need to drop the "pro-style" and "dual-threat" labels for quarterbacks.

It does way more damage for kids and isn't instructive in many instances.

"Kiel is a pro-style QB so he can't run and won't fit our offense!"

No, son.

Per Sampson he checked around the program today and the feeling is that Gunner will be Irish and this should be wrapped up soon.

This thread has become a vigil. I feel that we should be burning candles and reciting prayers.

One of the ND students on board needs to go light a candle in the Grotto for Gunner.

I think Coach D over on ISD said the feeling around the program is that it very well could be done tomorrow.

Edit: it was Mike Frank who said it. He heard the visit went well and feels ND is still in really good shape.

As far as that update goes with regards to Gunner, there isn't a whole lot of information that isn't already known.

Decision likely to come soon, Notre Dame isn't a slam dunk with LSU and Vandy in the picture. Also points out there is a lot of internet speculation ND leads.

I'm ready for GBDomer to make a post in this thread of a picture of clouds in the sky.

I sometimes worry if all the "xyz leads" chatter effects recruits negatively. The impulse to prove the entire internet wrong for their reckless speculations.

I certainly hope this isn't the case with Gunner and for once the chatter is on target.

I'm sure he has other things to do that read about himself on the internet. This guy is probably a local superhero. Every fan base essentially does the same thing. There will be haters and people who love you. I doubt he wastes his time catching up on what fans say over the internet. I don't think online chatter will dictate where he goes. There's way too many, more important factors. He knows whichever school he chooses he's going to feel the love from them no matter what.

Bored at work, pulling this from a LSU site:

"Feeling good about this guy. If it was ND he would not have come back to LSU so quick on an official. The good academic news also bodes well for us. Just what LM wants for xmas. " 12/9

"I wonder what he plans on majoring in. Like I said earlier in the thread, once he visited I think he realized that in certain departments at LSU you can get a VERY good education. It just depends on if those departments fit his interests." 12/9

"This is one that will be a surprise all the way to his announcement. Notre Dame faithful think he is theirs, LSU faithful think they have him and even Vandy faithful think they have him. Will be interesting but won't be upset if we fail to land him" 12/10

"My gut tells me Vandy/LSU/ND in that order and that close... I think if he does meet with Miles next week Les will come back with a QB, and that would be good for Kiel and good for Tiger football..." 12/10

"Notre Dame faithful think he is theirs. reply:no they dont" 12/10

"unsure when notre dame fans ever believed he was theirs... so nothing has changed? in general, most believe keil is looking for a reason not to come to ND... " 12/10

"Kiel told some of the guys at ND, that he didn't want the pressure of these bigger programs. Thats why the speculation of Vandy...." 12/10

"I haven't given up. This COULD be how it is playing out. ND out Vandy the front runner in his mind due to the pressure issue. Visits LSU and likes what he hears about how the player love the heck out of les miles and sees the pressure might not be there from the coaches. Takes visit with parents after the Arkansas game because it turned out to be more than just a free paid vacation. Big time games and programs openned his eyes to the rewards of playing for championships instead of losing every other weekend. Miles meets with them soon and seals the deal. Not a prediction just a hope that I am still holding on too. Questions though. Masters degree in the equation. What is he wanting to major in? Maybe undergraduate work in close field at LSU and then Masters from Vandy. Is the USC visit because he had a change of heart and is now open or even inviting of playing with the big boys. Fingers crossed." 12/10

"I see less pressure for a QB in a Les Miles offense at LSU than in a Brian Kelly offense at Notre Dame. At LSU, Les Miles would surround him with some of the nation's best athletes and linemen. He would rely on the RB's to do most of the work and all he has to do is throw it here and there to keep the defense honest and not turn the ball over. If he throws for 300 yards at LSU, that's just icing on the cake. At Notre Dame, he could throw for 350 yards and 4 TD's and still lose the game. At Vandy, there is no pressure because they'll just expect to lose. I think he counts ND as being too much pressure. In Vandy, I think he sees a good coach who's turning the program around, beautiful area, close to home, great education, in the SEC, and not as much pressure. Sounds great, but the great ones also have that championship bug in the pit of their stomachs. And you're right less pressure here than at ND. Wouldn't have to be the whole offense. He'd get to run a pro-style offense with a great QB coach, great RBs, WRs, OL. I hope he realizes that the pressure he puts on himself will always be the one that gets to you the most and if you want to make it to the NFL, you need to put that pressure on yourself. But it's his decision and you really can't go wrong when you're choosing between championships or amazing education. " 12/10

Sorry guys, just super board at work. If this is out of line, feel free to delete. These aren't in sequence, just ones I thought were interesting.

ACTUAL NEWS TO REPORT:

ISD reporting that an uncommitted recruit (NOT Gunner) said that he was told by Gunner that he is leaning towards ND. The ISD writer says he believes the recruit 100%. Also should be noted that the dudes on ISD absolutely refuse to speculate.

Do with this information what you will. And keep praying that Gunner decides to pull the trigger sooner rather than later. Would be a great addition to this class and make us Top 5.

Not likely Garnett. ISD guy said it came from a "not necessarily high profile recruit." No idea what that means, but we'll just have to play the waiting game here for a couple more days.

There is a rumor on Vandys board that Gunner called the Vandy coaches tonight to tell him hes coming to ND. Also an extremely in the loop poster on rivals says this will be over soon.

Best news I've seen in this thread yet. The guy on DD is wrong more often than not, and to this day I can still envision him going on and on about how David Amerson was a lock to ND. But if TJ believes Gunner will be heading to ND, then I believe Gunner is heading to ND.

Never even tried, or thought about it for that matter.

TJ the biggest mystery man on this planet. but the TJ part has nothing to do with who he is. All TJ said is he expects a decision really soon not that he will be Irish. Sorry if that confused anybody.

Sorry man, all that did was confuse me more.

To clarify, this cat only expects that there will be a decision soon but he is not making any predictions as to where he will go?
