I didn't mean bowl game i meant get a fair shake in the spring.

I'm sure he'll get a fair shake in Spring camp. The staff doesn't have to worry about installing a specific game plan, so it's easier to spread reps around.

Strictly opinion but i feel he has all the physical attributes to make plays the only thing holding him back is reps in the offense and thats regardless of actual game time. One thing i've learned and im going to use the term you younger guys use is when a kids a "baller" he will find rhythm no matter the scenario.

Golson makes most of situation, eyes 2012
December, 16, 2011
Dec 169:00AM ETEmailPrintComments1By Matt FortunaSOUTH BEND, Ind. — Everett Golson didn't need anyone telling him directly that he would not take the field for Notre Dame this season. By Week 2 or 3, when his practice snaps weren't increasing, the freshman quarterback pretty much figured out the scenario on his own.

"Maybe it would be in my best interest to redshirt," Golson recalled, coming to grips with his situation.

"This experience really humbled me," quarterback Everett Golson said of redshirting this season. The reality that Golson would not be playing this season became public knowledge when sophomore Andrew Hendrix debuted against Air Force on Oct. 8, the official announcement that, at least at that moment, Golson was no higher than fourth on Notre Dame's depth chart.

For a four-star recruit with little experience sitting and watching, Golson experienced an adjustment during the 2011 season.

"This experience really humbled me," the 6-foot, 185-pound Golson said. "Just being a freshman, just learning it takes time to go get acclimated and everything. So it's just been really humbling to be on the scout team and also know, really good for my skill development going against the first-team defense."

Golson was honored as the offensive scout team player of the year, hardly a goal of any decorated freshman upon entering the next level. But Mickey Wilson, Golson's coach at Myrtle Beach High School, said he learned something about his former protege this season.

"He understands the future," Wilson said. "A lot of kids, they just think here and now, especially at that age. And he's a kid that understands what's down the road, and I think at this time that he's gonna sit back and learn the offense and watch everything happen.

"I think it's been a very valuable experience for him. I think he'll probably tell you that, and he's definitely grown from it and I think he'll be ready once his opportunity comes."

That opportunity may come this offseason. Irish coach Brian Kelly has said that Hendrix will relieve Tommy Rees in Dec. 29's Champs Sports Bowl, but the quarterback situation beyond that remains unclear.

Enter Golson into the mix. The dual-threat has a skill set that would seemingly be a natural fit for Kelly's spread offense. He watched this season as Rees and then Hendrix capitalized on Kelly's next-man-in philosophy, and he is optimistic his time is not so far away.

"Just like everybody else," Golson said when asked of his approach to this offseason. "Just knowing that it could be my time now. Obviously the second year you can't really redshirt, so I have to prepare as if I'm going for the starting spot, so I'm definitely gonna do that."

I would not be surprised at all if Golson wins this job in the spring. I felt the big thing for him coming into the year, in addition to learning the playbook, was putting some meat on his frame so he could survive a season. Anybody have an idea where he is with that? I haven't seen an update on it. To me, that is the key to whether we could go into next year with him as QB1.

Not much gleaned from ND's practice viewing, although a lot to like in Everett Golson in arm strength and touch (at least against air).

Very encouraging.
I absolutely cannot wait to see the QB battle that develops over spring and summer camps.

I know we would all love to have gunner But i think Golson with the type players kelly is getting around him could be very good here in South Bend.

I see him around fairly often. He definitely appears bigger in person than he did 1 year ago when he enrolled early. I also hear that the coaching staff is very high on his development this year so really Spring 2012 should be a wide open race.

Honestly, I'm pulling for whoever is our best option, but I've been think Golson would be special since I ever found out about him.

He is going to be special, while i'll admit i was rooting for Gunner to commit it doesn't break us because Golson is our future at the Qb position. We just need to bring in more competition for our Qbs.

His physical ability is off the charts once everything comes together i think he will be awesome. Plus we don't have to worry as much about injury like (robinson and other run first qb) because Golson is a pass first qb.

I hadn't watched Golson's Sr. highlights in a while. Having watched them after watching the offense this season, I am convinced he is the answer. He appears to be the perfect QB for the ND offense. Throw first, but able to burn the D with the run. His pocket presence/awareness, size, and arm remind me of Drew Brees. Who knows about his football IQ or overall accuracy, but he seems to make good decisions. He also appears to be pretty fast. I know it's a highlight video, but I am impressed.

I've said it all along.

Oh boy.... Tater Tot is starting to sound like Epitome. Board up the windows, lock the doors. Put the women and children in the cellar. Things could get bumpy!!!

Reflecting on his recruiting, I have renewed faith in the staff. He came out of nowhere, was not a super-duper 5 star all world guy, and was not well known to me at the time, yet he is the perfect option.

I think he will be the best QB that is currently on the roster. I hope he is the starter next year.

Yes... It was a time of great excitement for all of us. I look upon those three days with much fondness. I often found myself, confused and dizzy, spooning the family dog wondering when I'll once again have such literary genius reach my gazing retinas again. I only wish you'd break it out now and let us all relive those magical days, just one more time.

The fact that Golson has ~1/4 the thread pages as Kiel is pretty silly.

Golson will destroy teams in this offense. I cannot wait to see it happen.

He must be salivating at the chance. He has a real opportunity to step up and take control.
