Just because a guy threw a punch doesn't mean he's a thug. I'm not condoning the choice to absolutely rock a guy like Gates did, but I'm sure that plenty of guys on this board have been in fights before. Do we even know exactly what caused the scuffle?

Beau, I don't disagree that he isn't necessarily a terrible person, but if you punch someone in the face during a college basketball game your career should be over. I don't believe there is any place for that, no matter what or who started the brawl. If I was the President at UC he would not only be off the basketball team, but he could start getting ready for the NBA draft because I'd throw his *** out of school for embarrassing his university like that.

While I agree with you, Tu Holliday used the word "gangstas" in the press conference. Lol that does not exactly help their case.

I've played sports my entire life. Scuffles happen. Sucker punching a guy seperating the fight is a thug action.

His punishment should definitely be rather severe though. I agree with you there. It's just the "thug" thing that I didn't like really. For all I know he could be a great young man, he just may have some anger issues.

I just saw bits of the conference a second ago, and it is completely ridiculous. They called the Cinci guys "thugs" and themselves "gangstas" because they do more than just talk, they throw down. Talking about (not exact quote) "where we're from we don't take that...you throw down with guys like Yancy Gates" etc. Now THAT is really representing your school in a poor way. Calling yourself criminals. Nobody should think the only punishment should be against Cincinnati. Xavier was running their mouths (apparently) the entire game. They also ran in and shoved the mess out of the Cincinnati player who was jawing with the Xavier player. This got out of hand due to both teams' players, but I only hear people talking about what Cincinnati did.

That's not all they did though. And at the conference they pretty much admitted to wanting to physically beat them up.

But I can't picture myself punching a person who is trying to seperate my team and his team from fighting. Especially when he isn't looking.

I go to Xavier we are a top ten team... I was at the game Holloway did nothing wrong but talk the press conference was ridiculous but its a press conference. I go to a good school. Maybe the athletes are not as smart as Notre Dame's I admit that but they are good guys. Like I said none of our guys are thugs. We didn't start the fight. They only defended their teammates and I would hope ND players would do that. ND fans should stop being so pompous. Xavier is better than UC. We have not been in a fight other than UC. Last year when we lost by twenty we didn't get in a fight. I admit we are a little at fault but you definitely do not know these kids, and maybe you should look at UC a little closer. Also, coach Mack runs a tight ship, we have suspended players because of grades as well as possible rules infractions.

You guys did start the fight, and they are thugs. Frease is an ogre who still owes Butler a water fountain. Mack has no control.

Its a Xavier around campus kind of like you can't see me by Sergio Brown. You've never heard kids say this at Catholic High Schools. Way to paint a picture of a school that you don't know very well. I don't want to play the race card or is it because these are black kids from New York who are trying to better themselves. Tu goes to class every day, I know this, I've had a class with him. Good perspective. But like I said these kids are not thugs. I am a Notre Dame fan for all sports. But for everybody to be calling our kids thugs. When we have not had any problems except with UC and we graduate 100% of our basketball players.
