That's like $350mm of contracts. If they do that, they are signing a death certificate postdated for a few years from now.
The Yankees and Red Sox can spend that type of money because they have the revenues to support it.
If I was an Angels fan, I would not like my team destroying our future for a guy that is already past his peak of his career. Tell me, how are the Angels going to sign any of their up and coming farm system players or pick up enough quality pitching? The reality is that if they sign CJ Wilson, they wont have enough money to sign anyone else.
If you are an Angels fan, and like this, then you should read the history of middle market teams that spent like this. The Angels only made $217mm in revenue last year. I dont know what their operating expenses are, but adding another $25mm of payroll isn't exactly bolstering their balance sheet.
