I wasn't sure which thread this could go in. Didn't want to make it a debate on who should start or who is better. Mods feel free to move it if need be. Just wanted to show what he did. One thing I noticed was this game could have easily been won. A couple incomplete passes at the wrong time, sacks at the wrong time, and a whole lot of slipping.

The play at 6:32 is my favorite. He steps up avoids pressure, could have run but stays and throws a accurate pass for the 1st down. Tommy gets sacked there.

Well if nothing else, it shows how superior to grass turf could be.

Wow, the O-line looked like crap. Hopefully he gets better protection in the bowl game. The option seemed to work well.

" ... could have easily been won ..." Easily?

"A couple incomplete passes at the wrong time, sacks at the wrong time, ... " Was that the mantra for the USF, UM, and USC games?

I also thought I saw an interception and a fumble in that video, something that bothered all ND QBs in all those games, as well as this one.

The OLine, regardless of who was QB, still had their worst game of the season.

I'm sorry to the haters, but even after rewatching it a couple of times, that is a very impressive performance for a kids first 30 minutes of competitive D1 football (against a top 5 team to boot). I saw only 2 'bad' throws; throws I would say were uncatchable (not intentionally thrown away or apparent misreads). No, it wasn't perfect. But it was very encouraging.

Wow did the oline play terrible. Golic let the DT run right by him on one of the sacks that killed a great drive in Stanford territory.

I'm making a list of where he did exceptionally well or poor or plays that he managed to possibly do both. I didn't mention the fumbled snap because I don't know exactly whose fault it is (Golic did have a pretty bad game), but when under center my coaches' rule of thumb is you put that blame on the QB no matter what.

:43 - You can't expect to have a rolling pocket and then reverse field on a run. There's no one blocking for you over there. Get rid of the ball on those plays. You can't take the sack.

1:35 - I love that he can put some big zip on the ball, but that's a situation where you have to put some loft on it. If you do, that could be six.

1:43 - Perfect. That's when you have to get the zip on it and sink it in right between the beat man and the safety coming over the top.

1:52 - Probably should have pitched the first time, but I like that he didn't feel comfortable, tucked it for yards, and then, just being a player, pitches it once he's wrapped up to Cierre for an easy first down and big gain. Big time players make big time plays.

2:14 - Takes a big lick. Maybe learn to see those better and to get a bit lower. I like the courage and fearlessness though.

2:32 - Perfection. Can't really say more about it. You have to have the arm to do that and he place the ball well too.

2:45 - Looks like Andy didn't get all the way to the PA otherwise he may have not had that defender in his face right when he turned around, but that being said, he did the right thing with the ball. Eifert has to catch that.

3:20 - Perfect in the same sense as 1:43, but really even more so this time. The reason the Colts have done well is because that is what Peyton does to stretch the field.

4:08 - You can NOT throw it high over the middle especially when it is that short of throw. You can see what happens when you do.

6:18 - Great job stepping up into the pocket and tossing it out to Riddick for a big gain.

6:30 - Even GREATER job of stepping into the pocket, avoiding the pressure, and hitting the open man for the first down.

6:41 - Recognized the pressure and again tossed it out to your releasing RB Riddick for a big gain.

6:50 - Toughness, enough said, right? No other QB we have can punch it in like that.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Overall Grade (with consideration of circumstances): B+

1:35.... Man!! Either more loft or a little more inside, that is 6 right there. And yeah, the absolute FIRST thing I noticed was the D line and outside guards. Their ends were getting crazy pressure.

But Tommy Rees' record as a starter is so good. Tommy Rees has the leadership and knows the offense so well. Tommy Rees has the experience. Tommy Rees is leading the universe in completion percentage. Just cuz Hendrix gets more yardarge and scores more points doesn't mean anything. I'll stick by my MAC QB cuz he's a winner.

Thanks for posting video. ... I can't help but think that the field problems pointed to the need for Jonas Gray. Straight-ahead power does better in mud.

These highlites reaffirm my seat on the preaseason bandwagon....

I think it has been said, but maybe not delved into- Tommy has a great grasp on the playbook..... yet, "said" playbook is limited because of his own physical attributes

Andrew doesn't know "the playbook" completely, yet he's able to run the offense better, mind you, against a good defense (in a limited sampling)

Perhaps it's partially how poor that shithole field is(I counted 4 slips by our guys), or missed opportunities (Eifert should have caught that one across the middle!), or maybe it could have been "first big time jitters" that caused Andrew to throw high on a few, but, I personally, think that we actually had a chance to win that game in the 2nd half.

I have very much enjoyed our recent success, and growth, yet I do understand that we are capable of so. much. more.

EDIT: when I say "so much more" I mean that we'll really see what BK's offense is fully capable of, and what we've been expecting it to be able to do

Watching him made that game great to watch. He looked great fire his first showing and just think what a little experience gets him. I don't see any red spots above that couldn't easily be fixed.

I thought the receivers didn't adjust right away to the timing of the fast ball.

Hendrix looked great, especially for his 1st extended playtime in a meaningful game.

I also hope he starts the bowl game.

Damn that field was way to much of a factor. Seems like Stanford dealt with it better- did not see them slipping.

It really seemed like Stanford did more running plays downhill. Whereas, Notre Dame did alot of outside plays that required them to cut. Stanford definitley was used to the terrible field.

Downhill wasn't an option for us because our OL was getting man-handled. That's why Kelly was trying to get the ball out on the edges. Fortunately for the Tree, their embarrassment of a field prevented us from doing that either.

This is the thread where we say nice things about Hendrix and stop being bitter about Rees.

I don't know how many snaps Hendricks had in practice since August with the first team, but I think we could have had a far better season if he had been the starting QB for the entire season. And I said so both in August and September in my posts at that time.

Hendrix also needs to be able to read defenses and see the field. His first throw, right to Stanford's inside linebacker, is a good example. He either didn't expect him to be there, or didn't see him.

There's lots of development to do in the passing game, but he does add a dimension that makes our offense more dynamic.

I agree!!! I kept telling my bro that during the game, but seeing this highlight reel really shows it & that was only 1 half.

It also shows that our O-line got pretty dominated by Stanford.

On the flip side Hendrix is sooooo fun to watch, if they work him in as the starter during practices i'll be excited to see how he performs.

sadly Kelly is too stubborn to give Hendrix the nod. get used to seeing Rees starting until he fails repeatedly.

When done right, the Option, whether it from a Wing T, Wish Bone, Power I etc, or Shotgun is very hard to stop. Teams will give up Yardage to prevent the big play, making 3 and 5 so much easier to convert. It has been my opinion since BK arrived in South Bend that having a QB with adaptability and mobility will make everything we wanna do easier. Defenses can't sit back and drop 8 and they also can't bring a ton of pressure due to assignments. How many times have we played Vanilla against option teams that we were clearly better than physically? I think Tommy Starts the Bowl game, with a 3/1 rep ratio to Andrew. If by the 2nd Qtr, Andrew is moving the offense better, go with him the rest of the way.....or vise versa.

At this point, Hendrix isn't a clearly better option than Rees. However, the comparison in potential is off the charts, so Hendrix needs to take over so that we can build for the future.
