not a great review from mike farrel on rivals:

Mike Farrell: Mike ND -- Jones is not a very active or physical defensive player and yes he would be much better suited to be an OT in college, I think that's where he eventually ends up because he really struggles to remain consistent on defense.

Have to remember, ND uses a GPA to SAT/ACT scale. If the GPA is high enough, they will look less at the SAT/ACT score

I just want to point out I was, and still am today a horrible test taker. I recieved a 950 on my SAT in high school....got into Purdue... went to DePaul...graduated with a 3.5 GPA... And now am in Grad school in Chicago. My buddy was national honor society in high school and I ended up with a higher GPA in a tough major. Who cares if jones didn't do well... niether did I and I'm sure some people on this board didn't. He'll Do great! GO IRISH

When I hear all of this all I can think of is Tosh's take on bad test takers. Anyone else?

But one test is one test. It doesn't make or break you.

Is the list of offers on the front page comprehensive? If not, does anybody know if Stanford offered him a scholarship?

Fell 89 spots to #159 in new Rivals 250:

"Jones is an example of a prospect that has a higher ceiling on the opposite side of the ball schools are telling him he'll play," Farrell said. "As a defensive tackle, he lacks great burst and power and he isn't as physical as he needs to be.

"As an offensive tackle however, he is raw and unsure of himself, but he has good feet and doesn't need that same physical mentality to be as successful. But wherever you project him, Jones is raw and should be destroying competition in Western New York and that doesn't come out on his senior film."

Let's just hope nobody attacks the kid about his scores like they did Aaron.

as long as he stays irish that probably won't be the case...unfortunate that that's the case, but last year showed that ppl get ugly at times.

That only came out once he decommitted. Mostly because ND was the jilted lover. Also if I remember correctly, Aaron's classroom struggles were a little more public (or maybe we made them public?).

Either way, neither Jarron nor Aaron will fail out of ND. It's pretty much impossible. I have all the respect in the world for someone who has difficulty in the classroom but gets the necessary help to succeed.

Damn I was hoping he would have close to the same impact that Tuitt had this year but Rivals doesn't seem to think so. Hopefully he can prove them wrong.

This is why passing on a guy like Schutt was a mistake in my opinion. You never know for certain which guys will pan out at what positions. I'm not saying Jones will be moved to the o-line, but if he is, we not only have one true d-lineman in this class.

he doesn't have to pan out next year to be worth it imo...like they said he could turn out to be a stud on the OL...either way i'm glad we got him...i've yet to be more excited about a commit in this class than the day he committed. hopefully we are rewarded later in this cycle.

You are basing his impact on a scouts take? I would say let him get on the field before you decide he is no longer good. :)

My last sentence implies I'm not judging him already. I still think he'll be a stud, it was just disappointing to hear what Rivals had to say about him.

well the only reason Rivals said those things is because he's verballed to ND. i welcome this kid to the family with open arms.

Jones is going to be an azz-kicker of a D-Lineman. Tuitt-like. Just give him a chance. Day is going to be his Nix-like sidekick in the middle. Okwara is going to complete the set of monster bull-dozing line-of-scrimmage shifters. We're loaded this cycle. Now please!! A few linebackers!!

+1. Our d-line is going to be sick but we need some guys behind them.

I know it's early but I am anxious about linebackers in this class. I don't think we lead for anyone right now. I hope the staff is able to make it work with Odenigbo, Ekanem, or McCallister.

Notre Dame is actually pretty good at LB. They will have to hit both inside and outside hard next year but the staff is high on all the young guys (Niklas, Councell, Ishaq) so that gives them wiggle room this year.

I can't disagree with that. I'd just like to see them pull one of these athletic OLBs.
