Despite giving up 287 yards, I think the defense has played well. It is just a reality that we don't physically match up with Stanfords tight ends with our LBs and safeties in coverage. Missing Tuitt and KLM are going to make the second half tough for the other guys on the line especially if the offense keeps turning it over.

For the first time in my life I may turn off the Irish and watch something else. That is embarrasing and if there is not a change to Hendrix for the second half I will turn it off. Program changing moment- yeh- my @$$.

IMO, it was a mistake to stick with Rees this season...Kelly should have developed Golson or Hendrix. The offense looks miserable when Tommy is in there.

Well...I don't think we should've thrown the season developing...But I am a strong believer that Dayne is better than Tommy.

there comes a time when things simply don't work with one QB and that time is tonight with Rees. bite the bullet and try something else. give dayne a series or two and see if he can generate a spark. it's not really going to set us back is it?

I don't have a problem with that (and I wouldn't mind seeing Hendrix getting a series or two) but people are acting like Kelly is throwing the game (well and season) because we have our own Andrew Luck over on the sideline. The facts are that all of our QB's are flawed, and none of them are special (well at least yet, Rees, Hendrix and Golson are too young to write off).

2nd half football. If you learn anything from betting on college football, it's never over.

Blanton has also had his worst game yet. But Tommy should be done. Hendrix and Golson should be fighting for the starting job in the spring. We need a mobile QB.

thinking of some cool names here for our star qb. How about i fall to pieces reeses or i need my mommy Tommy. Seriously he needs to find the pine. Crist may not do better, but im sick of hearing how Tommy just wins. Thats against lesser teams. Stanford is good not great, but Tommy is making them look great.

You haven't turned it off yet? Wow, I'm impressed. Seems like we get more excited about these games than the players.

Yeah, TE's are schooling us. Harrison Smith is being exposed for what he truly is...a guy that is decent in run support that really doesn't give you anything else.

Blanton has had a "Gary Gray" type night...in other words, terrible.

We'll be lucky to get outta here without losing by 20.

Been an Irish fan for 40 years and I can honestly say Rees is the most gutless quarterback I have ever seen for the Irish

Halftime Observations:

1. This game is eerily reminisient of all of those beatings USC gave us with from about 2000 to 2010 (2002, 2004, 2006, 2008) over Thanksgiving weekend.

2. As we all know Rees can't handle any pressure. He gets scared. He also can't run.

3. Blanton--who was so good the first 10 games of the season--is terrible the past 2 games.

4. Our only hope is when we pressure Luck so i don't understand why we rush only 3 guys so often.

5. I know Manti Teo is probably playing really hurt this season, but seriously this guy is the best linebacker in the country and a first round pick next year???

6. Rees can only handle one option. He has no ability to pick up his 2nd or 3rd read.

7. Rees tonight is finally experiencing what Jimmy Clausen and Brady Quinn experienced their whole careers in regards to QB pressure...and that's why i find it absurd when people tried to compare Rees with Clausen and Quinn.

8. I guess our offensive line isn't as good as we thought it was although i don't think they are playing that bad of a game either.

9. Can we find a way to incorporate Riddick and Toma into our offense? Is TJ Jones even on the field?

10. Our defense has struggled and that last TD was so predictable but actually our Defense has made enough plays so that this game should be a one-score game and not a 21-0 deficit.

The question is will we quit in the second half and lose this game 42-7 and give Andrew Luck the Heisman or will be show some grit and toughness and find a way to compete and lose 31-21?

14-0 and the Irish are right in the game. 17-0 and a solid point-producing opening drive, and it's still game on. 21-0... it's over.

Too bad there's absolutely nothing else on tonight; at least the Sabres won.

I support Hendrix getting the opportunity in the second half. Rees gives us our best shot to win games in general, but he had his opportunity to show that tonight and hasn't proven it. Give Crist or Hendrix the opportunity to show if they can do anything. I don't expect the outcome will be any different, but you have to switch things up a bit when things aren't working well enough.

Disagree... He may not have the skill set, but he does have guts. It's the only reason he's playing. If he had a stronger arm and at least some escapability out of the pocket, we'd be undefeated. With that said, he needs to be watching the second half.

Here is my summary of the game so far
Tommy has looked really bad
Hendrix hasn't looked any better
Wood doesn't seem to hit the hole with authority and is doing to much dancing
Our O-line can't block
Our D-line is playing pretty good but has had some tackling issues
Linebackers have been a little soft on the pass but pretty good against the run
Blanton looks lost out there.
Ruffer missed an easy FG.

Tommy sucks. Put in Hendrix for the remainder splitting time with Dayne to reward him for his time here. We have nothing to lose. If you need a reason why, lets say so we don't hurt Tommy before bowl game? Sounds like a good reason to me. We need athletes not pussies on the field.

Also, to say you didn't expect something close to this, unreal! I think however, our defense has done enough to help us be in this game.

Needed to log on just to correct Herbstreit. Notre Dame beat three top 3 in 1988. They actually defeated the number 2, 3, 4, and 5 teams in the final rankings.

This game is bad enough without Herbie's BS.

...But other than that, we've been great. And we're getting killed against the run.
