RJ is extremely confident and loves to play. Has made transition to being an every down corner. Type of guy coaches love to work with.

Team knows how big the game is to Wake, has heard talk from other teams about how big the Notre Dame is on their schedule. Wake will play their best Saturday.

Being mentally strong in November is the biggest thing. Staying fresh, keeping practices to a minimum. (Kelly has had 3 straight undefeated Novembers.) Season long improvement has helped teams.

I wonder if he'll get a David Perkins question, considering he's a local kid and pretty talented.

There is no one answer to explain how team builds mental toughness. Off season workouts, preseason workouts, knowing coaches have players back all contribute to success.

Slaughter will be looked at as a safety moving into next year. BK likes Lo Wood and BJax's development this season.

Ben Turk not getting a lot of work against Navy is a good thing.

Both Turk and Ruffer are kicking better, coverage teams are covering better.

Did Kelly mention that he is happy Epitome can hear stuff again after the ruptured ear drum?

He is extremely happy. The entire staff was talking sign language classes so they could still communicate with Epitome while he recovered. Those are now put on hold and they can get back to game planning.

Really kind of a boring presser. No real jokes with the media outside of the quick 'Ben Turk not getting work is a good thing'.

The starter at tailback, Cierre Wood or Jonas Gray, will be determined in practice this week.

Good word and yes I felt the same way. I had a hard time listening.

In other words, each guy will get 10-15 carries and about 70 yards rushing. Which I am perfectly OK with by the way. Love seeing us run the ball for over 170 yds/game even including that USC dud.

Kelly has been employing more "coach speak" lately, and I can't really blame him. How can you speak candidly about your strategy and players when every word gets parsed by the media for hidden meaning?

Sucks for the fans though. Less information for us

Need to hold the fort for this year and then reevaluate how to improve in the offseason.

I hope you were paraphrasing the hell out of whatever he said here, because I sure don't like the sound of this comment. You absolutely can and should be improving during a season.

Nope. Kelly literally said hold the fort on punt return. The question asked to him was that of trying a new return scheme or different personnel. At this point in the season, he is ok with Floyd or Goodman fair catching and taking his chances with his offense than he would be putting someone else unproven out there. If you look back over the last several games, there haven't really been any opportunities to get the return game going.

yeah just went back and looked at my post. It should have been added to the one before it, Kelly was only talking about the punt return game when he said that. I posted his first remark about it and I think there might have been a follow up question about it that led to the second post. Sorry for the confusion, I was trying to type as fast as possible.

Need to work on proper footwork and catching the ball on swing passes. They are intended to be forward passes, not laterals.

We ran the bubble/quick screens a lot in college. The quarterback is constantly reminded that this is to be a forward pass so that in the case it is dropped or poorly thrown no turnovers are made. Why we had this problem two weeks in a row is strictly on the route being ran or Tommy's throws, which is unfortunate.

Punt return philosophy hasn't changed other than putting Floyd back there. Kelly points out the team leading the country in punt returns is 2-6.

Personally, if I were the ND special teams coach, I would practice actually blocking the other team's players instead of letting them waltz down the field, as a sort of change of pace tactic to what we've been doing this season. I know, I know, it sounds like a radical change, but I think it might help a bit. JMHO...

I think you might be a little out there with your whole "im gonna be all logical" way of thinking....
