I saw a tweet from Brian Hardin that walk on chris salvi is a game day captain. Is this a continuation that some players are not giving everything they can, or something else?

As a walk-on, he puts ND and the team above himself. His selflessness and passion is a perfect model for the rest of his team. I love it.

Salvi has been a great ST'er for us, and he's earned it.

Whether or not this is a subtle way of saying, "Step up and earn this" I haven't the slightest...

I think Kelly is just finally fed up with the sense of entitlement and is making a statement to the older players. Let's just hope they don't quit on him.

Based on recent events, they already have. To much "Me, me....I....I...." going on these days.

Show me the guy that points to the Lady on the Dome stating "That's who I play for"....Show me the guy staying after to work on technique with the young guys....Show me the individual working to be better every day...be it in the film room, the classroom or reaching out to a teammate at a tough time. That's RKG....That's an ND man.

Salvi really is a solid player and a senior. I guarantee the kid has deserved through everything he does outside of the Saturdays.

And there lies the problem. It seems that the guys willing to stay after practice are all young guys.

Are we playing a game to see who can be the best Negative Nancy? I mean holy cow! I dont think I have seen one positive post today. What's the point of playing the rest of the season? You guys think the players have given up and seems like you guys have too.:pityno:

If you replace the lady with teammates, I could show you a picture of Manti. I seem to recall he volunteered to be Cierre's personal blitz trainer last year. Never heard that he's anything but completely dedicated to the team.

See a lot of these practices from West Chester, do you?

Or are we getting after a bunch of kids with zero knowledge of who is putting it all in and who is slacking.

I scheduled the visit for 10a.m. so I wont miss the game and I hope I do enjoy it. I wont give up on this team. I knew a loss to USC would kill the Irish community. Everyone put all of there eggs in one basket and it backfired.

There are stories that go up on the ND sites such as the Ishaq story. This class especially showed the effort by how they all came into ND in fantastic shape.

You question as to if we should play the rest of season is a negative one, sooooo? I think that people are tired of what we are seeing on the field. NO, play the rest of season, of course. It may seem like people, coaches, and players are sick of being sick, which is why I believe Salvi was named game-day CPT.

A player who gives their heart, time, body, and soul to a team while not on scholarship is proof that a player has what it takes, wants to be ND, loves the TEAM motto, and gives and does not take. Negativity, although negative, sometimes has to be manipulated into the equation. If you're asking if I am qualified to make that statement, the answer is yes. I am qualified. Football is for the thick of skin. The truth needs to be told, but the term insulate and not isolate needs to be instilled within this team.

Go IRISH!

There have also been stories about the upperclassmen. And if showing up in shape is effort, I'm pretty sure the upperclassmen are doing their part. People around here practically need new underwear every time UND has an offseason program video.

Let's not forget Cierre Wood's 5 AM workouts. It's all mental with this team, not physical.

I expect he's rewarding a guy that gets it done.

Kinda like a Mike Anello.

Gameday captian Chris Salvi speaks at pep rally
Angelo DiCarlo, WNDU.com
10/29/11

A special moment Friday night at the Notre Dame pep rally as Brian Kelly named walk on Chris Salvi as the gameday captain, Salvi is the first walk on to be named a captain since Kelly arrived at Notre Dame.

And the long time Irish fan put things in perspective in a big way Friday night inside Purcell Pavilion as the Irish get set to face Navy Saturday afternoon.

Chris Salvi, gameday captain, speaks about what this means to him, “Ever since I was a kid I was watching Notre Dame football I loved it for something like this to happen it's a dream come true.
You see our mascot and he's always got a fist ready to fight, ready to fight the Fighting Irish. That’s who we are. Some adversity has hit our team over the last week and what happens the fist comes apart and becomes weak. Adversity hits people and people from the outside want to take you apart. It’s like this you cant fight like this so what we've done is close that fist. Coach Kelly has closed that fist. These players have closed this fist. We are ready to fight. And we are gonna knock out the shipmen.

Salvi is from Chicago and went to the same high school as Declan Sullivan.
