We should everytime we play them but we don't

Not trying to make excuses but....

2007 Notre Dame fielded one of the worse teams they have every had in their whole history.

2009 Sorry to say was filled with pre madonnas who thought they could walk on the field and win. Hence the reason the Head coach was fired after the year.

2010 Was the first year Kelly had played a option attack, to my recollection, and as this year has shown. Navy vs. South Carolina and Air Force vs. Boise St. Those type of teams are not easy to play. SO if you are ill prepared you will lose.

But last years Army game and this years Air Force game has shown Kelly and Diaco have adapted.

I don't think we have adapted to an option attack at all. Air Force gashed us, if they didn't turn the ball over the game would have been much closer. They could do whatever they wanted. Big long runs non stop. I'm worried this week. I think Navy is really bad this year so it shouldn't be close, but we can turn the ball over with the best of them, so I'm skeptical.

The longest runs Air Force had while the starters were in were 30 and 21. After that they are mostly single digit runs.

At one point the score was 59-19, then the first team defense went to the bench. This was the score with just under 7 minutes left in the game. Air Force had only two turnovers.

The score was only close because Air Force can actually complete good passes, Navy can not.

We really didn't stop them until the second half. They moved the ball on all their possessions in the first half. Their first carry of the game was a 28 yard run with a fumble. I'm just saying we didn't really stop them, they did have 565 yards of offense. Not just at the end of the game. They just couldn't stop us and got down quick and couldn't keep up.

I didn't see it soo....

Navy will be without it's starting QB this weekend.

QB Kris Proctor dislocated his elbow against East Carolina.

College Football Rumors - Rumor Central - NCAA - ESPN

This year Navy is down. I see this game being like the games of old.

In addtion to that, the Irish defense will surely be out to make amends for their debacle last Sat. against U$C. Damn, they looked HORRIBLE .... the 1st qtr. in particular!

It did help that we got off to a 14-0 lead early. I would love to score 50+ points again. But i wreally want to see this defense play good. We need them to get back to sound defense. atleast we should get beat by our secondary this weekend.

What?

And there is no excuse for the comical loss to Navy last year. None whatsoever. How does Notre Dame lose to Navy by 18 points? I mean, the corners were giving Navy's wideouts 7-8 yard cushions. I know nothing about the X's and O's of football and even I knew it was a horrible gameplan.

I'm feeling very pessimistic, right now. I'm hoping for 8-4 with a bowl win to make it 9-4.

I love that fact that you are this positive we won't lose again but have you watch stanford at all. They are probably going to kill USC and Luck is going to pick our secondary apart like buzzars eating a road kill.

So he's positive and you're negative. Perfect balance.

I absolutely have and while I am being a bit biased in saying 9-3, the realist in me is that we finish 8-4 with a bowl win, which by the way, is not a bad season.

HOWEVER, upsets do happen. We could be on a roll going into that game with games against Navy, Wake, Maryland, and BC left. We could really handle the business with ease and Stanford could be feeling the pressure by that time to win and make the BCS title game.

Who knows, right?

Diaco hasn't proven that he can game plan to stuff the option yet. Air Force gained a ton of yards on us, and I won't even mention the Navy debacle. He didn't have a good game plan for USC either. Has he made any good in-game adjustments?

I think Diaco is a great recruiter and has a good connection with the players. This is the game where he proves to me that he has a lick of sense when it comes to scheming for the option. I was also hoping that the last of my concerns about him would be put to rest this weekend, but after USC this year I can't quite trust him against pro style offenses either.

Courtesy of Lou S at BGI:

Navy is reeling with five straight losses, but…— On paper, this should be similar to the 59-33 victory over Air Force. Navy will put up some numbers, but it can’t stop anyone. It is 103rd against the run and 111th in pass efficiency defense.

Still, two of the losses were by one point (Air Force and Rutgers), and two others were by three points, notably 24-21 to top-15 South Carolina. It reminds me a little of the 3-5 UConn team that came to Notre Dame in 2009, with none of the five losses (including 47-45 to Brian Kelly’s BCS Cincinnati team) coming by more than four points. Finally, they broke through against Notre Dame.

Navy gets a ton of yards on everyone. The option is difficult to prepare for when you see it only once a year. This will be the third time he has faced this form of attack (Navy and Army last year). If we are healthy on the inside, we should be okay.

Hopefully Teo grabs all these guys together and give the defense a pump up speech. He needs to bring these guys together. I wouldn't mind seeing have about 20 tackles either.

Hopefully Teo grabs an opposing player and actually brings them down. :)

You're right that he got exposed against Navy last year, but he completely stuffed Army, and were it not for two ST miscues, our 1st/ 2nd team defense would have held AF to 9 or less. That's damned good.

He didn't have a good game plan for USC either.

What was his game plan? Did the players execute it well?

Cwynar played poorly and Aaron Lynch doesn't have the strength, endurance, or discipline necessary to excel as a two-gap run stuffer yet. Thus, USC ran right at him the whole game; against a pro-style team with USC's talent, if you can't stop the run, it's game over.

Is it Diaco's fault that EJ got hurt? Or that there's a massive hole on our DL depth chart behind the two starting DE (who are both now injured?)

Has he made any good in-game adjustments?

IIRC, our defense hasn't given up a 3rd quarter TD all season. Yes, that indicates Diaco has made some excellent defensive adjustments.

I was also hoping that the last of my concerns about him would be put to rest this weekend, but after USC this year I can't quite trust him against pro style offenses either.

Do you recall what we did to Michigan State?

Quick question for those of you in the know.
I'm coming up early Friday and wanted to attend the Tunnel Tour. For those that have done this, is it normally a large crowd? And are their certain areas to park? It's been a long time since I've been in SB. Thanks.

lmao

Fwiw, I hope he doesn't play. He's going to get cut like crazy. They are going to be diving at his ankle every single play because that is what Navy does.... even 20 yards downfield away from the play.

Need to get him up to 100% for the latter games.

It's not a matter of Navy stopping us. It's us stopping ourselves. If we turn the ball over and not score on a few possessions and have stupid penalties then Navy will win.

If we don't turn the ball over, play smart, and score on every possession (3-7 points) then we should win.

BUT, we aren't a good fundamental football team and Navy is.

I'm picking NAVY. Go MIDDIES!!!!!!
