To many family ties. If ND put all its eggs in the basket earlier we would of had him. Maybe 35 is that better?

It's just that I thought we had stopped recruiting him for the most part and that I thought it was all just sorta an IU, Bama, OU thing.

If Badger is coming back, Manti stays, and the only 5th years are Kap, Cave, and Slaughter (musts) then we have 7 spots left.

EE's don't really factor in as they are only helpful when going up against the 25 per cycle limit.

7 spots, eh?

Well then I'll take Shaq, Poole, Kiel, Peat, Agholor, K. Marshall, and Treggs.

See, that was easy

Maybe so, but he did just decommit, we are an in-state school, he is visiting for the ND vs. USC game and we are loaded at WR for his class. Maybe he doesn't choose us but we couldn't be in a better situation.

Looked at his tape and it looks like they run the spread. Chalk up one more reason to be optimistic.

I've mentioned this a lot earlier in this thread, but you hit the nail on the head. He ran an offense that asked him to do exactly what Kelly would want him to do here. ND's offense is the closest to what he runs in HS than any other team that is recruiting him. Of course, many of those teams may end up using him that way anyway, but ND is the only school that currently desires to run that type of offense.

* Before someone pipes up to argue that some of the teams recruiting him run a spread, take a look at Kelly's Cinci team and how Pike was used, then pull up a youtube of Kiel.

RB, WR, S, Armstead > QB

We have really good options for 2013 QB's as well.

Staff will take into account the likelihood of those other options first.

Agree, TT. And I'd add another OL into that as well.

I like Kiel, but there are still big priorities besides QB right now. And like TT said, there are definitely some options for QB's in '13.

I'd still like Ifeadi and Armstead though too!

WOW! How did I forget those two? Yea, good point.

Regardless, my first reaction to this news is that of TT's. If Kiel comes to ND that just clogs up the QB situation even further. While competition is a good thing, it would also create worries about transfers and position changes, etc. I'd much rather use that scholarship on such positions TT listed. Then go after the cream of the crop QB next season.

I know the staff wants another RB in this class, but is that vital to pick one up? Next year we'll have Cierre (Sr), Cam Roberson (Jr), Cam 2 (So), GAIII (So), Mahone (Fr). I know they'd welcome either Marshall with open arms, but let's say we strike out on them? We'll still have better depth at RB then we do right now.

I mean, you just can't pass up a 6'5" QB with a laser rocket arm (think P Manning commercial), in-state that runs the spread and is athletic/somewhat fast.

Realistically, I don't think Kap and Cave are automatics given the talent level of some of the guys still on the board. I think Slaughter is most valuable, but Anglor or Shaq would make me question keeping Slaughter.... We're loaded at DE, and as much as I love Kap, I'd have to think long and hard there too. I think Heggie or one of the other OLs could step into center with little to no issues. Not saying I don't love all 3 of these guys, but the potential of some of these kids coming in is unreal. Anyway, who would have thought we'd be having these conversations. Great problem to have.

I wouldn't be upset if we passed on another RB...except for Keith Marshall.

We're already losing Blanton, Smith, and Gray. You can't replace that kind of experience and leadership with a true frosh regardless of the talent level. We'll need Slaughter out there next year. We have one of the better OL's in the country. We need Cave. No way you get rid of Kap either. Too much size, talent, experience, leadership with him. I think those three are locks. Your argument would apply to Cwynar, etc.

NO WAY do you not bring Cave back....Center is a HUGE position and responsibility...this would be one of the worst moves not to bring him back

The realistic guys for 5th years in rank of team need (my opinion):

1. Slaughter
2. Cave
3. Cwynar
4. KLM
5. Crist

Also, in my opinion, that list isn't necessarily of who I think are the best players, but where we need the most help next year relative to graduation losses and the depth chart.

Crist? I think Crist becomes #3 QB by year's end. No need to bring back a third string QB.

Cwynar is questionable. I think he comes back if we don't land all of these recruits we're hoping for.

Does anyone know how high Kap's draft stock is? He very well could bolt for the NFL.

Slaughter, Cave, and Kapron are all givens. You can't rank them because they're all coming back 100%!

I think it would be high percentage that Crist isn't coming back.

I agree, I don't see a situation where Crist returns. If we pick up a QB, he is for sure gone.

I know this may sound crazy, and I love the kid, but there could be a situation where we don't bring back Kap too. Diaco really loves these young guys, and depending on what this defensive class looks like, there simply may be no room. Which would be a shame, I really like Kap.

I actually see Cave as the most important 5th year. No way we don't bring him back, imo.

You can certainly have your opinion but I 100% disagree with you. And Heggie replacing Cave with no issues? I hope you were joking.

KLM is a 300lb D-end that is a gap fitting machine. I know everyone loves Lynch and Tuitt but there is no way they will have the knowledge, experience, or leadership that Kap brings on that line.

A starting defensive end is going to be back. End of discussion.

I get what you guys are saying and totally agree, but I would not be shocked if Kap didn't return. I know it sounds crazy, but for some reason, I have a feeling about it.
