The Irish should be back in the polls after this Saturday IF they are able to beat U$C. Several teams in the lower portion of the polls have some rather "interesting" teams to play this Sat.

#19 Auburn (5-2) @ LSU. Even losing to a superior team, surely a 3 loss team would fall out of the top 25 at this juncture!
#20 Ga. Tech (6-1) @ Miami. Losing to an unranked 3-3 team (even though on the road) would have to hurt their rankings!
#22 Washingon (5-1) @ Stanford. Nuff said ... would you rank a 2 loss Wash. team over a 2 loss Irish team (one that would be on a 5 game win streak)?

Just beat U$C and their back in the hunt!!!

I'd like to see Washington take down Stanford and Auburn to upset LSU. Auburn has a good chance now that LSU suspended 3 of their players.

Let's not get too excited. Auburn has a chance now, but I definitely wouldn't say it's a good one.

I want Stanford unbeaten when we play them. Also, I like LSU in a romp over Auburn.

I would have to disagree. I would like Stanford to be undefeated when ND plays them. Also I think LSU could beat Auburn with their 3rd string players. This is an Auburn team that won in the last second vs. Utah State and they have not played well the rest of their schedule so far

I would normally agree with both of you guys, BUT if LSU and Stanford lose AND we run the table the rest of the year.....its to our advantage that they have a loss. That would give Stanford 2 losses after we beat them.

I do agree that they're both better teams than their rivals this week....I just want them to lose.

So, you wouldn't want to be the first team to beat Stanford? I don't see how it would be to our advantage that Stanford already has a loss when they meet us. It wouldn't look as good if we beat them, than if they were undefeated...

i want to win! thats all i want.

is it my eyes or are LSU and Bama pretty much Professional football teams?

they look sooo dang good defensively, and boring but hella effective offensively.

OU is a nice team, wiscy is a nice team, stanford is a nice team. But LSU and Bama are just on a different level right now.

Bob's point is that if Stanford has a loss and then we beat them, we'll both have two losses (assuming ND runs the table) and ND would finish the year ranked ahead of Stanford. Could help for bowl selection, although I don't think Stanford would ever beat us out for a BCS at-large. Passing Stanford could help us sneak into the top-8, which would guarantee us a BCS game.

This year, I wouldn't be surprised to see a 1-loss Stanford picked over a 2-loss ND, all things constant. Some bowl exec may feel the better play is Andrew Luck's final college game, rather than an ND team that has no recent track record of being able to play on a BCS stage. I get the revenue and travel side of things, but for a BCS game, it's selling out regardless.

I don't know if the Irish will get as much credit as they should if they're the only team that beats Stanford. You'll hear plenty of excuses from the anti-ND crowd: Stanford was overdue for a loss from someone, it was the last game of the year and they where worn out, they didn't play as hard because they didn't want to risk injuries before the bowl games, blah blah, etc, etc.

I'd rather see Stanford take a loss before the Irish see them, not only to soften them up, but to put ND in a better bowl position with only (fingers crossed) 2 losses.

Good point on Luck. Might be a good draw on TV. I'm not sure if that would bump the audience as much as ND, but its certainly worth thinking about. It could.

But, you also have to think about travel and attendance. Stanford fans are horrible. The host city will also be concerned with packing restaurants and hotels for a few days.

Absolutely no way. Don't confuse a good story line on Sports Center with the ability to fill a stadium with paying customers and draw millions of eyeballs on TV.

Stanford is a good team. They also have a Heisman-caliber QB. The same has been true of Boise State for the last few years. And there is no way in hell either team could generate anywhere near the revenue that ND would in a BCS bowl game.

Eh, I disagree. They don't just have a "Heisman-caliber QB." They have a guy playing quarterback for them right now that is most hyped up college QB in at least 15 years. Think of every hyped-up QB in recent years coming out of college; Peyton, Eli, Vick even. This guy's getting more hype than any of them were at the time. You have to go back to John Elway and Troy Aikman I think to find examples of guys who had somewhere around this level of hype coming out of college.

I think the country is fascinated by this kid. It's only week 7 of the NFL, and people are already talking about teams losing games on purpose to get this kid. Any bowl Stanford goes to this year is going to sell and $*!#-load of tickets imo.

if stanford is undefeated before they face us they will be on top of the pac-12 and have the pac 12 championship after that against asu most likely, assuming they win they'll be in the rose bowl, so bowl execs won't really be choosing us over stanford anyway. 10-2 irish are in a bcs bowl book it!

hopefully against Boise in the fiesta.

I didn't see the Penn State game mentioned. I know Northwestern isn't the greatest team, but neither are Purdue or IU and they both had their chances against the Lions. I would like to see Penn State go down as well.

If Stanford is a 1 loss team they will be in the BCS anyways, PAC-12 has AQ status. That is why I want their 1 and only loss to be ND...

I don't know why we want Boise of all the teams. They're well oiled and fully into the program, and they recruit to that program.

I mean assuming LSU OU play for the NC, or Bama depending on who wins their game, Stanford, Boise, Wisconsin, Us and someone else (OSU?) I don't see us being in that class of program, yet. Just my opinion.

I think we would be able to play with Boise State which would probably be the Fiesta Bowl.

I would absolutely not want to play the loser of Bama vs LSU. Well...I would just because I live for the glory, and would love beating Bama.

Maybe there is some way we get into the Orange Bowl?

If it's all about polls, and I guess it is, then N.D. really needs a decisive win against USC. Not like last year's win.

Teams in the top 25 that might get the hell out of our way today:

#25 Washington vs. Stanford
#23 Illinois vs. Purdue
#22 Georgia Tech vs. Miami
#21 Penn St vs. Northwestern
#20 Auburn @ LSU
#16 Michigan St vs. Wisconsin
#15 West Virginia already lost to Syracuse

If Notre Dame puts on a show, they could be ranked pretty well tomorrow. :)

If all the stars align and we absolutely destroy USC, I think we can end up 18 or so. I think voters may have been waiting to give us the love until after this game, and then will make up for not putting us at 24 or 25 last week.

I just want to win by 21 or more!

GO IRISH!

Purdue laying the smackdown on Illinois right now. I knew Illinois was such a pretender.

This helps us twice over. :)

Purdue over #23 Illinois will help us a bunch. Improves Purdue to a winning record, which improves our SoS, and sends Illinois down behind us as a two loss team.

USF unfortunately couldn't hang on against Cincinnati today but they're still an above 500 team.

Michigan obviously has a good record and it helps that the only team to beat them thus far is Michigan State, who we killed. That'll help with the computers. Hopefully Michigan State can beat Wisconsin tonight, too.

Air Force, I believe, is our only opponent so far with a losing record.

Pitt's not in action this weekend.

Wake Forest snuck a win out from Duke 24-23. They have a pretty good record, should help after we beat them.

Hopefully, Stanford can win tonight and of course, hopefully we hand USC its second loss and we'll be sitting pretty with the pollsters tomorrow. :)

GT losing to Miami, Auburn getting absolutely annihilated, Illinois losing, yeah, we would crack the Top 25 easily with a win.
