Notre Dame football: Irish recruting in need of strong finish - southbendtribune.com

Is there a "sleeper" in this class?

"... John Turner. They loved him at camp. He's a great looking kid physically at 6-2, 210. He's going to be a guy that either is going to grow into an outside linebacker or be a huge safety, like a 225-pound safety. Very rangy. The big thing he needs work on, obviously, is reading the play better, getting over quicker in help, and his ball skills aren't superior.

Is playing CB tonight and apparently hasn't been too involved in the game. Not uncommon for a high school DB.

Watching the Cathedral game right now. Turner is well built (looks like a college safety already). Excited to watch him play.

Oh, and he's lined up vs Kevin Davis, who is a solid WR that is committed to Indiana, but has offers from Arkansas, Purdue and Cincy, among others. Should be a good test for Turner.

on ESPNU right now playing against Centerville (OH), I just turned it on so I don't know how he has been doing. Just thought I would give a heads up if anyone else was interested.

I've been watching. Haven't noticed him which is a good thing for a defensive back. Cathedral's front 7 is playing damn well. They're a legit team. Theoretically they could go 3-6 and still destroy everyone in 4A just because of how hard their schedule is. One of the best 0-2 teams in the nation for sure.

They have to justify their jobs somehow... and sell subscriptions. I bet they all sat around in a meeting room going over film and scientifically determined that he was 7 slots worse than before.

John technically plays saftey, however, due to Cathedrals defensive scheme he has been in a lot of 1-1 coverage this year.

There you go. Straight from a Cathedral student's mouth.

Or are you from one of those other Indy schools.

All of them suck anyways. ;)

Need i start the obligatory "Where is Muncie?" chant?

anyways, yes, cathedral plays a 3-3-5 Shell defense where the safety is often placed in man single man coverage, this is why his critics say he will not do well at ND, however, ND did not recruit him as a DB, he wont be in single man coverage very often, most of his big plays come when he is in zone or on a double team

So what was he recruited for?

Cathedral now up 21-0 over Gunner Kiel and Co in the first quarter. Three straight 3 and outs for East.
