Over the past five years, ARK and ALA both sucked. I can't name one player that has gotten drafted. Have they even won an NCAA game in the past decade? ALA did get snubbed by Georgia last year, but they still would probably have been one and done. USC made the tourney and played a team that eventually made the final four. Cal was pretty bad last year because they lost their best player, Randall who single handledly beat Louisville in the tourney two years ago.

Doesn't matter. He wants to PLAY basketball...obviously winning at basketball is secondary to him. Alabama, Cal, USC - not great basketball programs. And it's not like ND is on the short list of many top bball players in the nation. Not even close.

And not only are you ignoring that aspect, but you're also missing that his brother might also go to school wih him for a year as a transfer. Alabama is attractive to BOTH brothers...ND, not so much. He might not commit to Bama on the trip, but Irish Man3 is not crazy for predicting it. (And I've said all along that I never thougght Armstead would end up Irish, despite what he tells Irish reporters. He tells other teams' reporters far different things.)

Cal and USC are not head and shoulders above Alabama and Arkansas. Your way off base there. Not to mention that Alabama had a first year coach and Arkansas just got a new coach that brought in a very successfull recruiting class. You can make excuses for Cal all you'd like, they suck.

The big deal about basketball is that he has the opportunity to play. None of the four schools mentioned stand out above the others. If anything, Bama and Arkansas have much more to sell at this point.

His brother is transferring? That is news to me.

To me it just feels like he is taking his trips just for free trips. I don't know, maybe you guys are just more informed than me. Just don't think Bama has a real chance. Even Bama forums believe their chances of landing him are very small.

Only way this kid leaves USC is if his brother leaves. If his brother leaves things could get interesting if his brother doesn't leave theres no way he goes anywhere.

BrandonHuffman via Twitter:

Scout.com's #1-ranked prospect in the 2012 class, Arik Armstead, has decommitted from USC according to his father Guss...

Good timing, Arik.

beat once again. im really slumping but 24 7 confirmed this too. Doesnt like the way some things were handled with his family. IMO Notre Dame and Alabama are top 2 and we could make some big noise this weekend.

Doesnt his bro want to transfer to Bama.

That's pretty much why they are in the best seat for the Armsteads.

If we somehow pulled this off though...goodness.

That's me saying it very, very, very calmly. Here's closer to my real reaction:

If we got him would we put him at OT since we are loaded at DE or just keep stock piling DEs?

3 out of the 4 services have him rated as an OT. ND's coaching staff has stated they're done with DL recruiting. I'd bet they're openly recruiting him for OT.

You could move Jones to OT. I would say Armstead is a more developed Jones at this time. Both are 6'7"

I don't always prematurely celebrate, but when I do, It's because the excitement from potentially stealing a USC commit is over whelming

When was the last time we stole a recruit from USC. By that I mean decomit and chose ND not like Crist or Wood or Niklas

I don't think you worry about need in a case like this, you play Armstead wherever he's best at. My assumption would be DE. I've never seriously looked at him on either side though because I didn't think he was coming here. Will need to look into it.

We have the better BBall program out of us and Bama so that could help. If we get Banner or Stanley to NDs BBall starting lineup could have 3 football players innthe future. Awesome

Bama has a young rising coach though. Their basketball program is on the rise for sure.
