What is the "uniform surprise"?

I have to respectfully disagree with a couple of things. Both of your key differences are just a matter of opinion. I'm not going to pick apart each statement, but the bottom line is that each point was your opinion on the matter. With that said, you're most likely among the majority in your hatred of the idea of that all gold uniform. I think I stated earlier that I loved that uniform, but to be more specific, I'm in love with idea. I'd much rather see an all navy or all dark green (not kelly green, personally, I think that's way too much).

With that said, I'm actually pleasantly surprised by the amount of people on this board who are actually ok with the ideas being thrown out there. There's nothing wrong with tradition and sticking to it "because that's they way we've always done it," but there's also nothing wrong with adding a little spice once in a while either. Adding field turf and a jumbotron are permanent ideas that should be taken a lot more seriously than the uniforms for one game. I say shoot for the moon w/ the jerseys and see how it's taken. We may be surprised.

This color gold does not look like "sparkly vomit." An all-gold uni wouldn't look that bad. Again, I'd rather see the navy or dark green...but I'm not opposed to this type of gold color.

Yeah, its definitely just my opinion. I have a habit of stating things strongly for effect. I'm not trying to demean anyone whose opinion differs from mine. I get that not everyone has the same taste in these matters, and it would be boring if everyone did.

The bottom line is that I agree with your larger point about not being a slave to tradition. Tradition is important and it is a big part of why Notre Dame is Notre Dame. But I am 100% behind the ideas of field turf and a jumbotron. I love that we are playing USC at night. I'm even open to different approaches to the uniform on occasion. But I think a lot of the proposed uni combinations look kind of chintzy.

I've yet to see an all-color uniform/pants combination that looks even remotely close to something tasteful.

Gold pants with gold jerseys and a gold helmet looks so hideously bad it's not even funny. Blue tops and pants with a gold helmet probably wouldn't look much better either. MAYBE an all-white would look decent, but we're not about to wear that at home are we?

Can someone figure out a way to change the shade of gold on the first uni to the shade that's used in the second image? I think that'd look a lot better. Can we make the undershirt the same dark green color as the socks too?

Terrible? Other than the green tops/gold pants (the home version of the Michigan game uni), these are the best unis proposed in this thread so far.

May I ask what you don't like about them?
