Early Vegas line -16.5.....that is a crazy line against a quality option team. Not betting on Air Force...not betting on Air Force....(to cover that is)

I am extremely nervous about Air Force and, to a greater extent, Navy. The triple option haunts my dreams.

Sagarin's Predictor model the one he claims is most realistic of his models makes ND a 17.5 favorite.

Sagarin's Predictor lists ND 86.49 with another 3.08 for home field. That makes ND 89.57 against AF's 72.00.

Predictor takes Margin of Victory, MOV, into account while his Elo Chess model, used by the BCS doesn't. It only considers Ws and Ls. His Rating model is a blend of Predictor and Elo Chess and makes ND a 13.5 favorite over AF.

Despite ND's two losses, they do well in his Predictor because the Losses were both close to formidable opponents.

I just don't see there being enough time in the game, with Air Force chewing up the clock, for Notre Dame to get ahead by 17. I'd be very tempted to take Air Force at +17.5 here. I expect a 27-14 type of game.

I'm still woozy after the Navy game though. Bob Diaco could take this game personally and draw up a brilliant gameplan that holds Air Force to ~125 rushing and Notre Dame wins 35-3.

Notre Dame needs to score touchdowns when it gets into the red zone or this game will be scary.

This game doesnt scare me at all. It use you in the past cause we couldnt stop the run even if my sister was the opposing running back. Now we can stop the run and not turn it over i dont see this being a problem.

General Parking: White Field. 20 bucks a car. Bring your hiking boots.

Or you can show up to campus before 8am (before the police get out to check passes for people coming in) and park next to Carroll Hall for free. You can set up and tailgate there, the only problem is no one else will be around to share in the festivities.

NAVY 35, NOTRE DAME 17 « The Birddog

Air Force is a different animal than Navy but this is a very interesting read. I *think* the coaches learned their lesson as shown in our performance against Army... but I think this game should scare everyone if Ethan Johnson can't go.

Thanks for the reminder, Lax. I was feeling pretty good about our defense until I read that.

Having to start Lynch against Navy worries me as well. Schwenke at least played last year against Army.

Agreed, but there is one side that I like about that. Last year, I watched from the stands at the Meadowlands as we not only seemed to blow assignments on every play, but also failed to at least punish the Navy "options" who didn't keep or receive the ball. If we are going to read the play wrong, at least decleat some Navy players! Whatever Lynch may lack due to inexperience and keeping contain, I trust him to punish some people.

Last year's Navy debacle is 100% on the coaching staff. If we see the same ineptitude this year, Lynch's presence on the field won't change anything.

I think we roll this weekend. Do not see a problem unless the damn turnover bug hits us again.

With all that I've said about this game and thinking that it would be one of the 3 losses after watching the 'Irish" literally toy with Purdue it makes me wonder. Here is the problem-military mentality of 'you must get it done/disipline/planned stategy that takes into accts like as in a military battle/guts and guile. Thats the academy boys. Now with that said if Notre Dame matches that disipline and understands this is not a game to standout and be a star and concentrates on position responsibilty they should blast these guys too. Problem is Air Force wont be screwing around with bull$%#@ penalties and worrying about there image/like Navy they are here to win the battle because thats what they do -protect our country. This is a dangerous game-if Notre Dame can win this game the door is wide@$$ open for a run. Question is how much disipline and maturity does this team have. Asking these guys to play wide open against Air Force and Navy is not the answer/asking them to play responsible to their team/mates and mature with disipline is the way to beat these guys.

My biggest concern with this game is our defenders' knees.

Side note, per II:

AF is without their 2 DE's, an OLB, and 2nd CB due to injury

So in other words, be prepared for another 30 carries for 250 yards?

I'd hope no one is too worried about moving the ball on AF.

The only question is whether Diaco has the schematic chops to suffocate a competent option attack.

me too ... watch the knees guys i saw lynch defend a cut block perfect against the purdue QB...

they have alot of injuries to startes also so that helps..

every team we have played against we have not just stopped the run we destroyed it.. USF/MICH/MICH ST./PITT/PURDUE all had great running.. not to mention denard and b.j could run it also.. so i just have a hard time seeing them beat us...

our offense needs to score every possession to keep the lead plus AF will run the clock so wee need every score..

This is what everyone was saying before the Pitt game. I won't believe we can consistently beat the teams we should beat until this team proves me wrong.

We've run the ball well against every team we've faced, and AF will be the weakest rush defense we've played.

If we were counting on being able to pass against them, you'd have a great point. Rees and our receiving corps haven't been consistent.

But our RBs and OL have.

i'd love to see us control the clock with a balanced attack, no turnovers and capitalize with TD's. is that too much to ask for?
