If we stop Robert Woods then there isnt much left of that offense. Blanton will be covering him and there will be a safety over the top.

And he'll still have a good day. The kid is for real. But if that's all he has is a good day, then I like our chances.

If Barkley gets pressured. Woods will not have a good day

Perhaps...

But Purdue's passing offense is probably nowhere near as solid as SC's, and we only got two sacks, and no QB Hurries, against Purdue. I know that the ability is there, for our front 7 to harass just about any QB. But it's obviously not fully developed yet. If the front 7 doesn't pressure Barkley, they will move the ball.......and Woods is very likely to be a big part of that.

Or you could look at a much better Pitt offense where we had 7 sacks. There wasn't much need to get pressure

Your right but Robert Marve is pretty good at scrambling, thats why he didnt get sacked. I havent really watched Barkley this year but Im gonna guess that he isnt very good at scrambling. USC's o-line has a leak right now, our d-line should have a field day out there

This game is honestly quite simple. Assuming EJ is back healthy, they won't be able to run the ball on us. Period. If we can contain Robert Woods and get pass rush then USC shouldn't score over ~28 points in any scenario.

USC beat Minnesota by 2 who lost to NORTH DAKOTA STATE BY 13, and lost to Michigan 58-0. They also gave up 41 points to 1-4 Arizona and 43 points to a good ASU team. The bottom line? If this USC team comes into our game playing the brand of crappy defense and mistake filled football they have played in every single other game this season.... we're going to be able to put up a lot of points on them. And that should lead to a W.

Won't have to worry about Woods if Barkley can't get the pass off. Lynch could very well have a field day against SC. We're going to give up yards, but scoring on SC hasn't been a challenge for anyone this year. I'm confident.

Nothing would be greater than returning the favor to USC and starting a decade long winning streak against them. Make them pay for making the worst hire ever in Lane Kiffin.

Yes, we should all just dismiss the fact that SC has the 16th best passing attack in the country, and just assume that our team is going to play to it's maximum potential, with no mistakes. Just like they have shown a penchant for doing, in the first 5 games?

You guys need to watch USC more. Going into yesterday's game, they had given up 4 sacks ALL YEAR. And I don't think he got touched yesterday. So that's (presumably) 4 sacks in 5 games. Their pass protection hasn't been a problem at all, and a lot of it has to do with Kiffy calling for a ton of short plays, but still, they deserve credit for protecting Barkley.

The problem, as LAX said, is that they can't run the ball. And they won't run the ball against ND either. It will be hard to get to Barkley, but as has been said, if they can contain Woods, they'll be alright. Then again, man, that Lee kid (true freshman) is electric. I called that before the season started when I wrote about their scrimmage. He's not even funny.

As bad as USC is defensively, I still expect a close game and wouldn't be surprised at all if we lost. We SHOULDN'T, but we should've hammered Mich and USF and Pitt too. This could be USC's bowl game, and they are still talented, so it'll be a challenge. If we lose, I'll never hear the end of it from my students, so we HAVE to win!

They have played 1 quality opponent and they got spanked. That 16 rating is because they have been playing beauty colleges, except ASU

At least we will only have to worry about Woods for 1 more year after this year. There is no way he will stay for his senior year

He frightens me a little. Had a really shifty RAC yesterday and he'll probably be lined up on Shembo.

Minnesota
Utah
Syracuse
Arizona
Arizona State

Hardly beauty colleges. They may not be powerhouses, but they are all still respectable opponents.

Except Minnesota. The Golden Gophers are one of the worst teams in the FBS this season.

I agree with this, however.

Woods scares me to death. I am real worried about our secondary. Who the hell is going to cover him? Gary Gray still doesn't turn to the ball, you can bet Kiffshit is going to go after Gray with Wood. Maybe we should have Blanton shadow him all game? Motta scares me in coverage, Slaughter...I am starting to feel more comfortable with. I also don't want to see our outside LB's get picked a part in coverage, which may happen.

I think, to win, we MUST get to Barkley. I think Lynch is going to have a big game, he seems like someone who will feed off the atmosphere, and adrenaline will make him insane. I know they've let up 4 sacks all season, but our Dline is not just good, they are athletic, and most important, mean. They're tough, and I just have a gut feeling that we will get after him, and hit him...a lot.

No one can cover Woods, just like they can't cover Floyd. USC is going to get beaten in the trenches. This game can not come soon enough because if the Irish play smart they should win by 10+

Do whatever pitt did to floyd. If pitt has the worst pass defense in the nation and shutdown floyd, we can shutdown robert woods.

USC's o'line is weak and theyre ground game has stalled. Not to mention ND has been stuffing everyone all year. All USC has is recievers, and a very good group pf them. Doubling anyone means that Lee, or another will be wide open

I'm just worried about deep ugly, and off the mark passes to Robert Woods where he just makes a play on the ball (Denard Robinson) against Gary Gray. I love Gary Gray, he can cover anyone, but he just doesn't even attempt to turn to the ball. I don't want to make Barkley look like an All American. I am no coach, but I would jam SC's recievers at the line, have safeties over the top as a security blanket, throw the house at Barkley, and make him throw some of his ugly INT's. ND stadium would go crazzzzy, and the Irish would roll with momentum

SC's online weak? Haven't they only given up 4 sacks in 5 games? They can't get a push to run the ball, but they can protect MB. I think that will change though, they haven't faced a D-Line like ours.

I think, if we don't commit unforced turnovers, or undisciplined penalties, we could win comfortably.
