Ray Zellars one play why:

<object style="height: 390px; width: 640px"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/l93D-MBFALw?version=3"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/l93D-MBFALw?version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="390"></object>

I love that play...too cool. Its up there with my favorite plays...my others are Deke cooper tearing fredo's heart out (YouTube - Deke Cooper crushes Boston College), and Kinnon Tatum's hit on the Condoms at the goaline (YouTube - 1995 Notre Dame vs. USC - Kinnon Tatum). Many more...but these are some of my favorites.

My guy has always been Rocket...never saw a more versatile and electric player in the College game...Many others before and after him who I loved to watch, but none like that.

Zellars run, that was a wet, cold-a** day. Wearing a wool band uniform was not fun. Great run tho.

Dude you are the man! I remember both those plays! They were great great plays! We dominated USC that day, gameday was there and that play showed how much more we wanted it. I was going nuts when Cooper made that hit.

Jeff Burris is the man. That secondary in 1993 was sick. Off the top of my head: Jeff Burris, Bobby Taylor & Shawn Wodden!

Nick Eddy. My love for all things Notre Dame began with listening to games on the radio and hearing the announcer describe Nick Eddy's playmaking ability. I've remained a Notre Dame fan since.

Whoever is the MVP of the BCS game that we win to win our next National Title. That is my favorite all time player, and I have a hunch he's on the roster right now.

Man, this is tougher than I thought... it is almost like asking which one is your favorite child...

But, I shall play along....and, this could change with the current and future line up coming in!!!!

Pre 1988 - it was Joe Montana

1988 changed to Rocket Ismail for obvious reasons...

Right now, Teo is climbing up that ladder rather fast with his 'Manhandling' of offensive players and reading plays....

re-post this two years from now and I will guarantee many of the folks here may change their views of their fav player...right now, the talent coming in could change the landscape for ND football...

1. Alan Page - lived on the floor above me in Farley freshman year

2. Jim Lynch - lived down the hall in Sorin senior year

Both of those guys were not only two of the greatest athletes in ND history and distinguished themselves in the NFL, but they were both superior students and great guys and both carry the name and spirit of ND today.

To elaborate on Gipp...

He once totaled 480 yards of total offense in one game against Army in 1920, which was unreal back in the day. Passing, rushing, and returns.

Tony Rice
I was there in '88 when he tore it up against SC. He was a natural leader.
I used to love it when he came into the huddle before a big 3rd down play and was smiling, as if to say "I got this". Always felt very comfortable about the outcome of the game when he was in charge.

I loved Tony Rice... But in all honesty, if you were to ask me of the three QBs of that era, Steve Beuerlein, Tony Rice and Rick Mirer (maybe Ron Powlus before he got hurt - which time) who would have won a National Championship for ND as a starter, Rice would have been last on my list. I love what Rice did for ND don't get me wrong but looking at the way the QBs played, I would have thought Beuerlein would have done it first.

edit: and what I mean by who I thought would have won one first, is the style, size and type of QB....

Number 1 in your programs and number 1 in my heart. Derrick Mayes. He will always be what I remember of ND as a kid, he's the reason I wanted to play receiver when I got older, luckily I did play the position in both HS and college. Always was so happy he went on to win Super Bowl, despite it being with the Packers, lol.

I actually have a mini ND helmet with his autograph and it's still more prized than my Brady Quinn autographed ball.

1) Marc Edwards
2) Jeff Samardzija
3) Shane Walton

Marc was a warrior. I don't see anyone like that on this team and that makes me sad.

I'm a Rocket guy...

However Mayes is one of my favorites...I have memories of that guy leaping and stabbing some absolute lasers thrown to the back of the end zone...hands were pure flippin gold...I swear you could fire a gun, and he'd snatch the bullet...have we had more elusive recievers since Mayes...sure, have we had more productive receivers...sure...But have we had more sure-handed clutch receivers...not to my recollection.

Three way tie between Jarious Jackson, Carlyle Holiday and Matt Lovecchio....

Seriously though, Reggie Brooks has to be my all time favorite with Rick Mirer not far behind.
