After taking a minor hiatus from discussing football with anyone ( here on IE and in my daily life). I have official began the **** talking with the scUM fans I know and interract with. I know its a few days late, but i had to stop slitting my wrist eventually. BK and the IRISH are pisssssssed off! I would not want to be scUM right now!

I'm still cutting! I still can't believe we lost. I saw the replay was on last night and I almost puked just seeing it on the guide.

My wife asked me if I got in a fight with all my IE butt buddies because I haven't been posting all week.

I suspect Robinson will play from the shot gun to use his speed and moves. He can sit back deep and see what hole to hit. Noticed last year Fleming was too slow once in the back field. Robinson will roll out right and just dance around Fleming. You need someone with speed once in open space chasing Robinson, My guess is Kelly will have to use Tuiit and Lynch more often to get into the Michigan backfield. Otherwise Robinson will run circles around our slow 300 lb linemen and Fleming.

With Robinson's speed and elusiveness, I don't feel confident about any of our guys getting him down reliably in the backfield. Agressively attacking him will leave space for big plays. I'd much rather see good gap control and containment on the edges. Force the game onto Robinson's arm, and we'll be in a great position.

the good thing is gary gray will just sit back and let denard pepper shots in front of him all day long.

That was Diaco's scheme in the 1st half, not Gray's incompetence. Diaco tightened up the Cornerback cushions in the 2nd half and took away those easy gains.

one of these days i'd love to see an early pick for 6 from one of our corners. i might hurt myself celebrating if this actually took place. could u imagine something like that in the big house? denard wud probably run the guy down, though, LOL.

I cannot fathom why we didn't press more during the USF game.. We need to press the WRs this week.. Denard simply cannot throw the long ball.

If we leave it up to him having to throw precisely long.. we win. If I see this dink and dunk bullshit again Im going to be pissed.

Contain, press and wrap up.

Agree with playing up close on the edges but we better be careful Michigan has speed at the receiver position and we could get burnt deep. But saying that don't think Robinson is a accurate thrower. The key to the game will be how much we slow Robinson down.

Orrr not, because Nix reverses role and punishes him as a guard. Dreams.

Prepare to be pissed. Diaco is smarter than you and knows better than to give up big plays to a team that will already be excited.

I did not claim that I am "smarter" than Diaco so keep your snide comments to yourself. Wow, I didn't know being excited was just a Michigan thing.

I understand you don't want to give up big plays but DRob cannot throw the long ball. It's on tape, go look. That's why we have a free safety. Throw off the timing of the route, cover deep with the safety and Denard won't hit anyone. I'm not saying it has to be done all game but more.. just more.

I hope ND comes out so pissed off because of what happened last weekend, they just absolutely bulldoze Michigan. I really want this team to show some serious fight and just hit Michigan right in the mouth from the opening kick off

burger23 at onefootdown breaks down how Al Borges incorporated Denard Robinson into the running game last week against WM here.

Of serious concern to me is his following observation:

On Notre Dame's side, the most important thing is KEEP CONTAIN. This is something they struggled with last season and had trouble with in the first half last week. Diaco did a pretty good job stopping Daniels on the ground last week after the rain delay, but he did it by bringing a safety down to help on the outside. Robinson isn't a fantastic quarterback, but he's certainly good enough to make Notre Dame pay by going over the top to his receivers. The important thing to remember is that Robinson will get his yards. If the Irish need to play disciplined and force Michigan into third and longs. That running game will eat our defense alive we give them 3rd and 2 all day.

If we can't contain Robinson without putting 8 in the box, we may be in for a very long day.

In the UND video interview with Manti and Harrison from yesterday, watching Manti's body language and facial expressions and the way he responded to certain questions, it was the first time I have ever seen an interview with him where all I could think is "man if this kid gonna show up with in bad mood on Saturday ". I have a feeling he's going to be on a mission like we haven't seen from him before.

It looks like it will be rainy on Saturday, no? How does that effect the game? Which team does it benefit?

When is the last time that happened (against a team with a pulse)?

Penn State 2006?
Utah 2010? 28 points is hardly "bizerk."

From a schematic standpoint, it probably favors Meatchicken. ND has the more dangerous aerial attack, and passing suffers in the rain.

Hopefully it'll dampen the noise level in the stadium.

We've been posting injury reports, transfers, NCAA ineligibles, and depth chart modifications IN these threads for several years. They effect THIS game. No need for a separate thread. People can find it in one place here.

It proabably also makes Robinson a difficult runner to stay with. I think he's going to have a difficult time contending with Nix and company filling the lanes. But a sloppy field is gonna make the big guys look like Harrison on the face mask penalties, stretched out and reaching for something to grab.

As for our pass attack, Rees wasn't too shabby on a wet field last Saturday.

Wood would benefit just like Robinson on a wet field.

Roberson and Hardy are out for the season. Golic of most of it. Nichols was may be back but if the field is wet and sloppy I wouldn't expect a guy recovering from kneecap problem to see the field.

Here's a website which reports injuries, supspension, transfers etc. Some inof is old, some new. The date is noted. BTW, they apparently aren't up to date on Welch.

NCAA Football Injury Report: NCAA Basketball Injury Report

Notre Dame Fighting Irish Next game: Notre Dame at Michigan on 09/10
Date Time Player Name Pos Status Injury Notes
08/21 2:19pm Tate Nichols OL Out Knee Nichols dislocated his knee cap and is expected to miss at least four weeks of action. The RS freshman was running with the second team prior to injury. True freshman Nick Martin moved up to second string in Nichols' place.

08/21 2:14pm Eliar Hardy S Out For Year Knee Incoming freshman Eliar Hardy tore his left LCL during practice last week and will miss the 2011 season. He was expected to be a reserve this fall.

08/21 2:11pm Jake Golic TE Out Arm Golic suffered a broken arm and is expected to miss at least six weeks. The sophomore and son of former Irish player Mike Golic (also of ESPN fame) is projected to be a reserve this year.

08/10 10:52pm Cameron Roberson RB Out For Year Knee Roberson suffered a major knee injury at the end of March and will miss the 2011 season. The RS freshman was to add depth at RB this fall. The Irish may have to rely on incoming freshman Cam McDaniel if something happens to starting sophomore Cierre Wood.

Michigan Wolverines Next game: Notre Dame at Michigan on 09/10
Date Time Player Name Pos Status Injury Notes
09/07 2:43am Ricky Barnum OL Questionable Undisclosed Barnum missed the season opener with an unspecified injury and is questionable to play in week two. It was originally reported that the junior had been suspended for a "team issue," but GoBlueWolverine Radio said Barnum was indeed injured. Sophomore Michael Schofield started at left guard in Barnums' place vs. W. Mich.

09/07 2:36am Stephen Hopkins RB Probable Suspension Served Hopkins missed the season opener serving a one game suspension due to a "team issue," but the sophomore backup is expected to be available for week two.

09/07 2:35am Marell Evans LB Probable Suspension Served Evans missed the season opener serving a one-game suspension due to a "team issue," but the senior reserve is expected to be available for week two.

09/05 3:15pm Cam Gordon LB Probable Back Gordon is dealing with a back injury but is probable to play Saturday vs. Notre Dame. The sophomore was second on the team with eight tackles in the season opener. Last year as a freshman, Gordon ranked fourth on the team with 77 tackles.

09/05 3:12pm Troy Woolfolk CB Probable Ankle Woolfolk left the season opener with an ankle injury but has been upgraded to probable for Notre Dame. The senior sat out all of last year with an injury but solidified a starting job this summer. He recorded two tackles vs. Western Michigan.

08/25 3:38pm Chris Barnett TE Out For Year Left Team Incoming freshman Chris Barnett has left the program and will not play football this fall for the Wolverines. He was projected as a future starter because No. 1 TE Kevin Koger is a senior.

08/23 7:34pm Tony Posada OL Out For Year Left Team Incoming freshman Tony Posada has decided to leave Michigan and will not play football in division one this year.

08/23 7:32pm Je'Ron Stokes WR Out For Year Left Team Stokes has left the program likely due to a desire of more playing time. The junior played mostly on special teams the past two years and was not projected to big part of the offensive plan this fall.

08/11 1:47am Darryl Stonum WR Out For Year Disciplinary Stonum was suspended indefinitely this spring for operating a vehicle while visibly impaired, his second offense. Coach Hoke recently said Stonum will redshirt the 2011 season. He is the team's second-leading receiver returning from last year's squad. Stonum caught 49 passes for 633 yards and four TD's a season ago.

08/11 1:45am Terrence Robinson WR Out Suspended Robinson has been suspended for the season opener due to a violation of team rules. The junior played in 11 games the past two years, making one start, and is expected to backup starter Roy Roundtree this fall.

08/11 1:41am Will Hagerup P Out Suspended Hagerup has been suspended for the first four games of the season for violating team rules. The sophomore was the team's starting punter last year and averaged 43.5 ypp. Look for fellow sophomore Seth Broekhuizen to fill in until Hagerup returns.

08/05 2:29pm DJ Williamson WR Out For Year Transfer Williamson was granted a release from his scholarship and will transfer to another school. The RS freshman was not likely to earn much playing time this fall.
