Question on Closed Threads

I was reading the thread that commented that BK was too heavy handed on Saturday and saw that it was closed. Is there a reason for this? Looking through it did not seem to be rude or obscene in any way. Is this supposed to be a cheer-leading site or is there supposed to be collegial discourse of differing opinions?

I think we will get a some quality wins this season and really won't start winning until a system qb gets in here but without question the temper tantrum routine from BK was a little embarrassing on national television and I think the OP from that thread had a right to express the opinion. Perhaps I missed something that went over the top? Anyways here is to a less embarrassing game this week. Beat UM.

Respectfully submitted,

I think it has more to do with, it was going no where but in circles. Which could eventually cause people to get banned and that is the last thing the mods want to do. But then again I could be completely wrong just a guess.

Well, people will get banned from message boards regardless I did not see any content that was offensive or over the top. One of the reasons I have loved this board is that there is some ability to call it like you see it with out being burned at the stake.

I know being a mod is not easy and I respect the time. I just thought it was a fair observation that was worthy of a thread.

Jayhawk, I get it but I just don't see why " not going anywhere" 48 hours after game day is enough to close a thread that had some momentum. Whatever, I have said my piece, but if that is close worthy if we lose to UM this week mod better have their closer shoes ready to go! ;)

thread had gotten wearyingly repetitive. ... plus much sign of no attempt to compromise on anything among high-testosterone posters incapable of trying to see anyone else's view. That is a recipe for disaster unless what we're really looking for is out-of-control high school debate behavior.

I didn't close that one, but I did merge/move a lot of threads this morning. As junk said, there were a lot of overlapping threads, and several people were complaining that it was causing the boards to slow down (not a techie, so i don't know if that's true or not). So we closed/merged a lot of threads. It wasn't a censorship thing, it was a flow of the board thing.

Cool, thanks for the clarification. I have put myself on a 48 hour ban from posting after losses.

I try and do the same. I got back from the game and was so pissed/semi-depressed/drunk that I didn't want to get near this site nor any other ND site for that matter. Felt the same way in the morning, but felt a duty to log on and check it out. But I was at my in-laws so I didn't get to look too much, and then my buddy and I had to fly back to L.A. so we traveled all day, so I was away from the site. Finally this morning I got a chance to check everything out. Still pissed about the loss but at least we're a day closer to next week's game.

But the big props should be given to Junkhead and TT and the other mods who were here during and/or after the loss. You wouldn't believe the crap they deleted before most people ever got to see it.

Man I have been so ****in down since the game I had to snap out of it and say WTF!!! This isnt life or death...

How was you trip to South Bend? Welcome back..

Not to say the other MODS did not do their job...THEY DID. It was just too much for 2 3 or even 10 mods. There were arguments, drunken idiots, Trolls galore...uglest I have ever seen on IE.

I agree with ND/LA. Everyone had adequate opportunities to state their piece on the matter, and some guys began to go after each other personally, really killing the thread, and more importantly the idea that we all have a right to state our opinions without being harrassed here on this great site. Let's stomp a mudhole in scUM this weekend, and I'm sure some of the flared tempers on here will be cooled.

Right on, man. I care a lot. But, if I'm wrecked for a week after a loss, I need my wife to kick me in the crotch.[/QUOTE]

How about a UFC fighter like this? LOL

This site had become a lot more censored lately.

Not so. Not even close. I've been on this board for over 6 years. It still operates similarly to the way it was set up originally. Most people like it that way or it wouldn't exist.

There were a couple of people in the past few months that saw fit to wage war with the moderators. They were allowed dialog but persisted in personal attacks. For most of them it was a repeat of previous hissy fits.

They were launched after repeated warnings both publicly and privately. Quite a few of them had been sent to the showers a number of times by various moderators including former mods on this board.

The mods have a forum where offending posts are reported. Frequently other posters PM specific mods asking them to step in and M-o-d-e-r-a-t-e a thread or a post, as happened last night and this morning. The mods discuss the questionable posts. They send counseling PMs to the poster. They post public messages suggesting they step away from their keybroad, chill, drop it. In most cases it works out. Some people think they're the exception as happened earlier today. And now he's gotten a trip to the showers.

All banishments, temporary or permanent, are subject to review by the board administrator.

Keep in mind posting here isn't a right, it's a privilege.

The only change of censorship was the automatic language software activated, I believe, by the site owner as this is a family site.

I remember calling for that specific thread to be closed. Why? Because I've learned on my time through this site exactly how we (the site) like to project ourselves.

This website will be found at the top of just about any google search of any recruit and the word "irish" or any google search with reference to a Notre Dame game. You may not think so, but this site definitely gets noticed, and just because there are only 800 people logged in and posting at once (gez, that's lots) doesn't mean there aren't THOUSANDS of people looking and reading the forums.

What I'm getting at is - we don't want to look like idiots ESPECIALLY because there are so many people reading and watching us that you have no idea. That thread had got to a point where it was doing nothing but upsetting people and making the site as a whole look bad.
