BOOM!

#4 WR on 24/7 now #42 overall.

Cousins Tee Shepard and Deontay Greenberry are making a habit of doing a lot of things together. First, they committed to Notre Dame together. Now, the Irish commitments have made dramatic moves up the rankings.

Greenberry has family bragging rights for now. He jumped from No. 209 all the way up to No. 42, but his cousin doesn’t have far to go to overtake him. Shepard jumped from No. 145 to No. 46 in the rankings.

Greenberry and Shepard have demonstrated the rare physicality that can separate a player on the next level. Neither has shied away from competition, putting on some of the most impressive offseason performances that we’ve seen at any position.

247 and Scout have rated Greenberry accurately at this point.

Rivals and ESPN really lagging behind.

Dude is a stud. Whether ESPN and Rivals ever realize this or not, it doesn't change the fact that he (along with his cousin) is a tremendous addition to the ND football family.

Rivals had him in the top 150 in their initial rankings. I don't believe they have reevaluated their rankings as of yet. We will see where they have him once the revaluation rankings are finished.

Rivals has Greenberry at 4:s: 120ish I believe while ESPN has him at 140ish 4:s:

Good catch. I was giving ESPN more credit since they've at least started tweaking his ratings upward, but they're still indefensibly low in light of his dominant 7-on-7 performances. Both ESPN and Rivals should be embarrassed at getting caught sleeping on Greenberry.

Ups to Scout and 247 for getting it right.

Greenberry is a stud for 3rd down conversions and face routes, but as far as overall WR it is simply too early to tell.

I have my doubts about Scout as a recruiting service though, they have been pretty inaccurate over the years.

You must not have seen him dominating against the top recruits in the nation at multiple 7-on-7 tourneys. Of all our current recruits, he's the closest thing to proven bad as$ we have.

Kid hasn't played a down of college football yet. In fact, he hasn't played a down of senior season yet. It's far too early to tell if he'll be any good at all. The scouting services think highly of him (and I hope they're correct) but they also thought highly of Deion Walker as well.

1. There's a lot of truth to people saying they want to see what Deontay can do in pads. He had very good but not "elite" film from his junior year. I'm very confident though that he has the tools to be an elite player and can continue the momentum from this summer into his senior year.
2. It's basically becoming a complete myth that Rivals is "accurate" but Scout/ESPN aren't. I really like 247 the best, but Rivals projects towards the NFL and can be WAY off on guys... and ESPN just doesn't put in much legwork. Scout used to be all over the place, but they seem to have upped their game substantially.

247 is basically Rivals from years past. There was a no compete clause in the selling of Rivals and now that it has past, 247 was started by the original founder of Rivals and is basically killing Rivals in subscriptions. Even 247 radio on satellite basically has the same talking heads that Rivals radio once had.

I figured with the way everyone was hyping up Deiter's game and his records. That Greenberry's game was just so so. ha

I'd hate to see what Deontay would do if they turned him loose on Indiana high school football. I get where you're coming from, though.

I do have to say, 12 is a lot of catches. Guessing from stats though he probably played a very, very good game.

Deontay Greenberry, Notre Dame Football Recruit Talks with B/R About Recruitment | Bleacher Report

Deontay Greenberry, Notre Dame Football Recruit Talks with B/R About Recruitment

6'3" and 180-pounds, Deontay Greenberry is one of the very best Wide Receiver recruits in the country.

Showing a great initial burst off the line, Greenberry has good separation, quickness, and is excellent after the catch.

On Labor Day, B/R got a chance to speak with the Notre Dame commit.

So, obviously, you've been to "Gridiron Kings" and "The Opening". Who has impressed you the most among your peers?

My boy Bryce Treggs. I've seen him at both GK and The Opening. Wow. He's super competitive, does everything he has to do to win and just makes plays. Bryce Treggs, definitely. We were on the same team at both events.

What was it about Notre Dame that made it the school for you?

They're the best school for me. They have great academics, like Stanford, and things just felt right there.

As far as the football side of things, what have the coaches told you?

They told me to really make sure I watch Michael Floyd. To really study him because that's how they plan to use me.

Does Floyd play the "X" or the "Z"?

He plays both. They use him all over the field, in different areas. I'm going to be used the same way there.

Would Michael Floyd be someone you think your game compares favorably to?

Hmmm, yeah, we're similar. I think I'm a bit more faster at this point and better at jump balls. But yeah we're similar.

What type of season do you think the Irish will have this year in 2011?

I think they'll go pretty far. I think their 2011 recruiting class will help them, especially because the defensive linemen they signed are sick.

What is an area of your game you want to work on and improve?

I want to control my emotions on the field better. I'm not a hot head or anything, but just getting better at working through adversity. My mental thoughts and being more focused on the field.

Are you planning on taking any other visits?

Oh yeah, of course I'm going to Notre Dame, but also Arizona State, Miami, Alabama and Oregon.

How solid is your commitment to Notre Dame then?

It's pretty solid. I just want to see places I've never seen before and meet new people, see what other programs look like.

Could they sway your commitment?

I'm not sure, I just want to see what they look like.

How has the start of your senior year gone? What are some goals you have for this season?

It's been pretty good. Last week I had 12 receptions for 230 yards and 3 TDs. The main goal we have is to get to the State Bowl. Individually, I would say the goal is 80 receptions, 17-1800 yards and 20 TDs.

Any All-Star games you're already committed to playing in? The Semper All-American Bowl?

Yeah, it's the 1st annual game, I think. It's a nice honor. I'm also probably going to be in the USA vs. the World game, which is right around National Signing Day.

I'll give him the "more faster" aspect, but I'm going to be a Doubting Thomas on the whole being better at the jump ball than Michael Floyd.

The talk about not being 100% Irish makes me worry. Notre Dame needs to put up some W's and keep these recruits committed. Starting with Michigan would be terrific.
