ND's CB haul rated best in the nation by 247

Best by position: Defense

Another position that is a pretty easy decision in Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish have a pair of commitments from two of the nations best in Tee Shepard (Fresno, Ca./Washington Union) and Ronald Darby (Oxon Hill, Md./Potomac).

Shepard, 6-foot-0, 173-pounds, excels in press coverage and is ranked No. 46 in the country. He has a 247 Rating of 96 and is the number four corner in the class. He is a high school teammate of fellow Notre Dame commitment Deontay Greenberry, who is also among top 50 prospects in the class nationally.

Darby is one of the fastest prospects in the country and is a world-class competitor in track and field. The 5-foot-11, 174-pound Darby is the No. 66 prospect in the country with a 96 rating.

That would be astounding, and yet actually possible. It's unbelievable.

I wouldn't call Shepard and Darby a "haul" until they're "in the boat", as in having signed LOIs.

Sherm Sticky would like to think we have a better than average chance but the fact of the matter is... we dont. My early guess is that he wont leave the state of Florida.

Shaq on the other hand is a very realistic possibility. Getting him away from Cal will be difficult but not out of the question.

Notre Dame has the best DB class hands down right now. It's not even a competition at this point, but it is still very early. Bama is in the mix for some studs after getting Geno and look for Rutgers to make a push if they can keep all the D.B kids at home. Notre Dame could certainly lock up the best defensive back class with Shaq or even a Y Wright verbal.

When you look at the average ratings weight per verbal so far, it could be easily argued that only Texas, FSU, and Florida are getting higher rated verbals. If Kelly punches this class home with 8 or so more athletes of similar quality, we could be viewed as having a 4-to-6 ranked class.
