If Extinct animals are ok I will go with a T-rex for DE.

"Robinson turns the corner, slips by an arm tackle by Fleming only to...

OH MY CHRIST! GRAGTHOR HAS HIM IN HIS MIGHTY JAWS! FUMBLE! FUMBLE! MANTI SCOOPS UP THE BALL AND RUNS INTO THE... WAIT! THAT IS NOT THAT BALL! IT IS THE SEVERED HEAD OF DENARD ROBINSON. GRAGTHOR IS IN A BLOODRAGE! HE IS SNAPPING AT EVERYTHING IN SIGHT... OH MY GOD! HE'S RIPPED MANTI IN HALF! WHY GRAGTHOR???? WHYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Meanwhile, Roundtree has scooped the ball and is on his way to.... BUT WAIT!!! HE HAS TRIPPED OVER THE SEVERED RIGHT LIMB OF ROBINSON! OH THE HUMANITY...

GRAGTHOR IS IN THE STANDS! HE IS WADING HIS WAY THROUGH THE MICHIGAN FANS AND IS NOW IN THE STUDENT SECTION! OH THE HUMANITY!

Nix has scooped and scored! 17-7 Irish. Diaco's gonna need to really reign in Gragthor, the five star prospect from The Lost World: Isla Sorna. In fact, Diaco is on his way into the stands now to get the big guy back on the field and ready to go..."

I have a vivid imagination.

Trying to decide if birds are fair game.

Then we can use Geese as DBs, and they can dance like Mertons hanks with his freakishly long neck.

Mythical creatures are sadly out of bounds as well.

Maybe we'll use such creatures tomorrow.
Ok, really narrowing it down here. I think a Silverback Gorilla as a MLB with a Ostrich's as DB's.

I was gonna go with Peregrine Falcon for DB. Train 'em to hit the ball in flight and the human team would never complete a pass.

Trying to find the fastest bird that could actually grip a football in the its talons now. Guaranteed pick 6 every time.

Bald eagles for strong safety would be epic.

Forget 4 320lb guys, or even 8 160lb guys. I would go with 32 40lb kids. They'd trip up any running play.

Lmao. OHHHH OFFSEASON.

Whiskey, I really love how you jacked this thread. Why not just start your own? lol

And can we have only one animal as the entire team? Or several different species?

I could put Rhinos as my DTs...

Wait...genius idea...could the animals be rabid? I know you can't bite the people, but I think this would dramatically improve an animals physicality. It'd be like steroids. lol

Oh and I would take four 320 2nd rounders all day if it was for a full game. It's still a toss up if it's a passing down. How well could those 160's tackle? I mean. That's like my size. Tebow would truck my ***. Even if there were 5 of me. lol

So... what was the verdict?

No verdict yet. On defense (3-4):

DE: Rhino
DT: Elephant
ILB: Gorilla
OLB: Tiger
CB: Condor
S: Puma

@ Beau: The idea is to submit a species for each position that would be the most competitive non-human. Dinosaurs and mythical creatures are out of bounds (for now). Also, the animals aren't allowed to kill, maul, gore, bite, or claw their human opponents. They're supposed to play fairly (lol?)

Edit: Apologies to Lax for jacking his thread. The question seemed settled, and I was a little too embarrassed of this ridiculous topic to put my name on the OP.

I thought Elephant would be too big?

If so, 3-4 would be...

WDE: Bull.
SDE: Bison.
DT: Rhino.
ILB: Gorilla.
DOG: Tiger.
CAT: Lion.
CB: Red Kangaroo.
FS: Cheetah
SS: Puma.

Not bad.

Neither a bull or a bison has good lateral movement, and neither accelerates particularly quickly. Might be able to find a better candidate there.

Rhinos have the same lateral movement issue, but that's probably OK at DT (push the pocket much?)

Gorillas might be the best choice for all of the linemen positions.

I like the Tiger/ Lion split at OLB since Dog usually calls for more weight and strength. Not sure if Lion is the best candidate for Cat though.

Cali_domer suggested a Kangaroo earlier for CB, presumably for jumping ability, but Kangaroos apparently don't get much height when they jump (one site said 9 ft. max). CB is tough since I can't think of an animal that can backpedal effectively. I suggested a bird initially, but that means no run support from the CBs.

Cheetah for FS makes sense; why not a Peregrine Falcon trained for PBU? Would completely take away the deep ball threat. Puma for SS is good.

Ugh... Friday can't get here soon enough.

I thought about the lateral movement thing but hoped it would be overlooked. I went for more powerful rushers I guess. :)

I did consider saying Gorillas for all the box positions. lol

I saw that a lion can run up to 50 mph so that seemed pretty good for pass coverage and yet it's still a lion so it has power to get the run, right?

I picked the Red Kangaroo because I researched and it said they were the fastest out of the top ten best jumping animals in the world. (Some fastest animals vid on youtube haha) It must have been best jumping in length rather than height though. Still, 9 ft. is up there.

And I didn't want to include birds because that seemed like a very unfair pass coverage. lol

I didn't want to get involved in this since I clearly eschew anything silly.

But ... I would put a giraffe or four on the defensive front line. They could easily step over an o-lineman and would interfere with a quarterback's line of sight and ability to effectively pass over them.

Hell, put a giraffe in as a receiver for a fade to the back of the end zone ... defend that, sucka!

Giraffes are also one of the fastest mammals on the planet.

Or so I was taught on youtube.

Note: Instead of youtube I was going to put public school, but then I figured "eh, they're about the same."

Interesting...

My thought is that with eight 160 lb guys you'd have an unstoppable pass rush, so that would allow your safeties to just play the run full time with the 3 linebackers solving that issue.

Coworkers are arguing that you would just run the ball up the middle every down with a big QB or strong RB and get 3 yards... because even if you left 3 guys totally unblocked they could never make an impact on the play coming from the edge and the guys in the middle would get pancaked as soon as the whistle blows.

And yes, only 30 more days until football.

You play with this defensive lineup, and you'll get killed. You'll have about 800 yards in penalties for too many men on the field. (8 160 lb linemen + 2 safeties + 3 linebackers = 13 men)
