The only way I see Notre Dame joining the Big Ten is if Comcast does move the ND broadcasts from NBC to Versus.

Grandpa was whining that the Little 10 was getting burned by ending the season mid November and the other teams were playing 3 more games and passing them up.

But didnt the Big 10 benefit from that also? I thought I remembered OSU backing into the title game due to this.

"come to Penn Stttttttaaate" - grandpa making an ass of himself in a big ten network commerical

I think Rutgers is the best fit for the big ten. New York Market would really help the big ten network...the final decision will be based soley on $$$$$$ so Boise is out! Cinn fan backing in ohio is small...Pitt is small compared to PSU. Notre Dame would be better $$$ wise but I agree with others...I think we are 4-5 years away from joining a conference but it will happen sooner then later!

college football isn't that big here in NJ and the NY area.....and you don't see many true New Yorkers rooting for Rutgers......to them.....that is Jersey's Team......that is not a NY Team.....obviously anyone that went there will root for them and there are a lot of Jersey people that root for Rutgers but at the end of the day......this isn't Big 10 Country, they don't follow College Football with the passion they do the NFL. I think all the talk of getting a huge market out of Rutgers is just silly......they are barely on local cable now, they have no following.......

If you ask me, they are better off chasing some of the weak teams in the Big 12 or trying to grab Pitt or WVU.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish on potential Big Ten membership: We prefer independence - ESPN

The Big Ten's decision to study expansion brings back an oft-asked question -- would Notre Dame consider joining the conference, which includes a number of its regional football rivals?

The answer is no, athletic director Jack Swarbrick told the Chicago Tribune.

"Our strong preference is to remain the way we are," Swarbrick said, according to the report. "Independence is a big part of the tradition of the program and our identity. We'd sure like to try to maintain it."

It appears ND will keep it's independence. Missouri is still the favorite IMO. Rutgers, Syracuse, Pitt are all second options.

You're definitely right. I am the only person I know that follows college football and prefers it over the NFL. I from South Jersey and the majority of the people are Eagles fans first. I go to Rutgers and most of the people I know only follow Rutgers because they go to school their. Rutgers is their second team behind whomever else grew up rooting for. Although...there are tons and tons of Notre Dame fans!

Swarbrick seems to have said in his presser... new coach will have us rockin' - don't come knockin'.... or more accurately, that we appreciate our independance and would like to pursue it further...

Kentucky needs to re-build... they just can't keep up with the big boys in the SEC. Time for a switch.

this may sound crazy but think about------

First of all I wouldnt join the 'little 11' if they paid my way, the rip job Notre Dame got this year from their refs put it as game on for me. I used to look at the mich/mich st games as fun with good respecting teams. Bull$#@^ now its kick their @#$#$ and the rest of their league pals. Notre Dame should never forget some of those calls. I never want Notre Dame to join a conference but if a gun was put to my head it would be the MAC. I would give my reasons if you guys are interested but mostly feel this selection was laughed at. Just remember when Fla St joined the ACC it was nothing, they elevated that conference and made it big time. Notre Dame could do the same for the MAC and keep 3 tough, big time opponents every year. Hell the schedule would still be better than Ohio State and Penn State.

There are no feasable reasons you can ever give to convince me that Notre Dame should join a non BCS affiliated mid major conference.

Im going to give you an analogy of what youre suggesting that would be the equivalent: The Chicago Bears go to the Canadien Football League.

That is equivalent of Notre Dame joining the MAC.
