ESPN NFL Randy Moss, 34, to hang up cleats

Future Hall of Fame receiver Randy Moss has decided to retire rather than continue playing.

"After weighing his options and contemplating offers, he's decided to retire," Moss' agent, Joel Segal, said Monday.

Moss, 34, played 13 seasons, catching 954 passes for 14,858 yards with 153 touchdowns.

Moss split 2010 with the New England Patriots, Minnesota Vikings and Tennessee Titans after three full seasons in New England.

He was instrumental to the Patriots' 2007 record-breaking season in which they won 16 straight games before losing to the Giants in the Super Bowl.

I was just wondering today about his status. He played that last couple of months here in Nashville for the Titans and I had not heard a peep about him in the local media and newspapers.

I'm hearing from a lot of espn football people that this is purely positioning.Mainly that he doesnt want to participate in training camps. This isn't a real retirement...He'll be back this season.

Wouldn't surprise me.

Almost signed here at Notre Dame. Too bad.

He had 3,400+ yards and 54 touchdown grabs (not a typo) in two years of college.

I thought he did sign here, but was denied enrollment.

I believe he did sign at ND, then was denied enrollment because he got into a fight at graduation I think. ND then released him and he transfered to FSU, don't remember what happened there exactly but he ended up transfering to Marshall from there. The rest is history.

Moss did sign a LOI for Notre Dame and had his scholarship revoked because of a fight in high school.

He enrolled at FSU and redshirted there (because he was a transfer since he signed the Letter of Intent for ND) and was later kicked out of that school because he tested positive for marijuana (a violation of his parole) and he had to go to jail for a short period of time.

Horse$hit!

For about the 10th time on this site, Moss was NEVER APPROVED ACADEMICALLY BY ND ADMISSIONS. He never had a scholarship.

Holtz sent out NLOI forms to two prospects ND Admissions had not approved. He tried to pull a fast one and got rebuffed by Kevin Rooney, ND Director of Undergraduate Admissions. Rooney stood firm. Coaches don't make the academic decisions at at ND. One went to FSU, the other Miami.

For some reason my "I believe" is wrong. I think I read it somewhere that He actually wasn't approved, forgot where I read it though. Oh well that was over 15+ years ago. :)
