I had a friend of mine, who is a huge Tennessee fan, said he heard on the radio about the possibility of ND and UT doing back to back home and away games in 2013-2014. Has anyone else heard this? I would love to see the match up again, as the series is tied at 4-4, with ND winning the last 2 times.

1.9% chance of happening. Swarbrick just mentioned a few weeks ago that Notre Dame will not be playing any SEC teams anytime soon, unless it's a bowl game.

Perhaps something has changed since then, but I highly doubt a SEC team would be added so "close" in scheduling terms as 2013.

Idk...its just what he said. If ND did play the SEC in a bowl game and won, imagine the moral booster that could be. The last time Kelly played the SEC was with Cincy vs Florida, with Florida dominating, so who knows, but before getting there, we have to get through the games ahead first.

As far as a ND-Tennessee match-up I would love it! I don't know if it would ever come to fruitition or not but I would be all for it. UT is just a little over 3 hours away from me so I would definently attend a game down here.

Tennessee is one of the very, very few SEC programs that's shown it's not afraid to play away from SEC country.

Wasn't that long ago that UT/ND had home/away games. I live an hr south of Nashville, and 3 hrs from Knoxville, and 4 hrs from Tuscaloosa. Tennessee, Alabama and Vanderbilt will travel I know. Tennessee and Alabama have both played on ND turf, but here is an example, Alabama plays Penn State at Beaver Stadium this season, Vanderbilt opens at Ohio State next season, Alabama opens against Michigan at Dallas, Texas. I know UT and Georgia have home away games against Ohio State 2018-19 and 2020-21.

I think a few years ago, ND turned down a home/away game season with Auburn I heard.

I hope we play them. Didn't we whoop the crap out of them last time we played?

Kelly was in South Bend as Florida stomped the team he previously coached at, Cincinatti, without him leading them.

Possible but doubtful. ND has one game open in '13 and two in '14. But ND isn't really the issue. UTN already has a heavy hitter OOC Opponent scheduled each year for next 10 years. They'd have to cancel a series before booking ND.

UTN has one open game in '13 but they already have Oregon as one of their OOC schedule. Can't see the SEC allowing them to add a resurgent ND in addition to Oregon.

UTN only has one of 4 OOCs booked for '14 but it's OU. Adding ND still would be foolish.

UTN has all four OOCs booked for '15.

In '16 UTN already has UCon and Nebraska.

In '17 USM and Nebraska.

In '18 and '19 tOSU is on their schedule.

In '20 and '21 tOSU gets replaced by a series with Southern Cal.

Brian Kelly's never played an SEC team.

He was the head coach at Notre Dame when the Bearcats lost to UF in the Sugar Bowl. Jeff Quinn was Interim HC for UC in that game.

"Real men" never play for MNCs then. There's a big difference between avoiding cup cake games (which ND has always done) and playing twelve ranked teams in one season.

Never heard of an ND/Auburn series. I have a relative who's a AU season ticket holder. He's never heard of it either. Auburn doesn't like to travel and a preference for directional schools, hypenated name schools, and Div Iaa.

...

Alabama HAD a home and home with ND for '05-'06 or '06-'07. After Bama lost 21 scholarships for the Albert Means scandal, Bama AD Mal Moore contacted ND's AD White and asked to let out of the contract. ND did so. Moore was instrumental in putting the series together as he had ND connections. Moore has served as Assistant HC at ND under Faust.

Would love to add UT, or UGA, or Bama to our future schedule. What a better way to recruit and open up more of the SEC to recruiting for us.

What better way?

Beating teams like Syracuse, Connecticut, Navy, and Tulsa would be a good start.

Having a home field advantage. ND hasn't run the table at home since '98.

Beating UM and MSU in the same season. '04

Win 'em all. '88

My comment was not an indicator of how tough their schedule is. But more so on how irrelevant they are.

Would love to see this. UGA and LSU seem to be the only ones (Vandy doesn't count) who don't mind scheduling a tough game out of conference.

UT has the classiest fans in college football.

Outside of Notre Dame, of course.

Stanford comes in a close second, though.
