Why not Notre Dame in the Big Ten?..........

Hello Irish fans. Just joined up on your football board. Always loved the Irish and the great Notre Dame football tradition! My one big objection is that Notre Dame should have joined the Big Ten when they had the chance several years ago. Why? Your school is located right in the heart of Big Ten country, reasonable travel distances for all sports programs and revenue sharing in the Big Ten is Tops in the Nation. I don't want to beat a dead horse with this post but let me hear it from the Notre Dame fans that know football.! Also, has Nebraska ever played Notre Dame in football? Just curious. Also, Go Gopers!! Thank you in advance for your responses. Randy Olson-Minneapolis,Minnesota.

Yes we have play Nebraska. The only reason ND should ever join a conference is if a playoff system forced it or we go 0-12 for 5 years running IMHO. Welcome!

Rather get herpes.

What does ND have to gain from joining the Big 10? We are on NBC every week. We recruit nationally, not regionally. We enjoy playing strong out of conference games. Big 10 is not going to Dublin any time soon.

Oh and a sidenote to add. If we ever have to join a conference I hope it is the ACC or the Big 12- 2.

Herpes is the gift that keeps giving.

I wont get in trouble if I tell this dude to "Get the hell out of here", would I ????

If it were up to me, I would tell Delany's little turd the same thing. Mods may discourage this behavior.

But I'll tell him myself:

Buck the Fig Ten!

Rather get herpes.

Truth. ^

We will NEVER join a conference. Swarbrick just had an article today about what will be the Notre Dame network. It will not be regionally based, as we are a NATIONAL brand. Eat your hearts out Longhorns. (The article is VIP only at Blue and Gold.)

It's coming.

No need to settle for anything less than the best.

We are independent. We are original. We are the University of College Football. We are ND!

You won't be finding the most receptive crowd on these forums, OP.

A big, "No ****in' way," to the idea. The only way ND joins is if it's forced.

TT is right disadvantages strongly outweigh any advantages you might get by joining a conference.

Randy, Great question... I'm sure this thread will illicit many responses. Some may be inflammatory. However, IMO the reason ND hasn’t joined a conference is part arrogance and to a lesser extent tradition. I think we will be shooting ourselves in the foot 5 years from now knowing that we could’ve been secure in the Big Ten. Obviously I don’t speak for all ND fans.

Very few at best.

We quickly understand your allegiance. Although a true Nebraska fan surely knows the story of the damn horseshoe.

Nebraska leads the series 8-7-1.

If we lose our independence ND will not be ND. We will be a regional school. There is no advantage to joining the Big Ten. Oh and another thing is if it is ever required to join a conference there will be a line of conferences seeking our admission.

one thing supporters of the ND to the B1G bring up is the money from Big Ten Network. While NBC gives ND less money, you have to realize that to ND's coffers and boosters, TV money isnt a drop in the bucket

Notre Dame in Big Ten......Nope!

Notre Dame in Big Ten......Nope!

Thanks for your responses so far. I guess I struck a bad nerve with some ND fans. Certainly not intended. Me and the guys in Minnesota plan on driving down to South Bend to hopefully score some game-day tickets. Is scalping legal down there in Indiana? Just wondering. Go Gophers and Notre Dame!

Everyone scalps, and I have no doubt you can find a ticket. Hang around the walkways in the parking lot by the stadium. You'll find one in no time

Money, make their own schedule, stay more on a national level with the tv deal, why share all your money with lesser schools?

I won't rehash all the old arguments. Instead, here's a link if you're genuinely interested in why ND has not and probably will never join a conference, Randy.

Notre Dame Football: 10 Reasons Why the Irish Will Never Join the Big Ten*

The most compelling reason is that Notre Dame enjoys unparalleled national brand strength. Joining a conference would regionalize ND's brand, effectively destroying an incredible amount of value.

*I sincerely apologize for linking to BR. This article was written by Matt Mattare, who runs the ND blog We Never Graduate. He's worth reading.

Not so much a bad nerve as much as bringing up a subject that has been beaten to death. ND fans feel strongly one way or the other. No harm done.

With scalping you can spend a ton or get lucky and find them for face value. Good luck. I would not waste your time with the USC. The game is going to be very expensive.
