And their dual threat QB.....

EDIT: Just did some research. James had less than 50% of his team's carries. So much for a single back system.

But the important thing to remember is that,

A.) Oregon ran the poop out of the ball. 629 carries is utterly insane.

B.) So maybe James only accounted for roughly half those carries, but he still ran the ball 294 times which is a crap ton. And from that stand point, he was the #1 running back who carried the load, with the second string back and QB Thomas a much distant second.

There was no "in between the tackle" runner sharing carries with LaMichael.

Look at it this way, James accounted for 46.7% of Oregon's rushes. In 2005, Darius Walker "only" accounted for 51.5% of Notre Dame's rushes, but the Irish were essentially a one-back team then.

So, really, Oregon was "basically" a one-back team.

Kendall Hunter and Okie State would be another spread team that had huge success running the ball with "basically" one small running back.

C.) Oregon's three top runners are all small and speedy. Maybe Thomas isn't really small, but he's thin at 212 pounds and certainly no in between the tackles type of runner.

Nasty bad *** speed kills teams. Either running inside or outside the tackles.

^ This.

I tried following him. In the span of about 10 minutes, he tweeted probably 7 times. That was the end of that.

First post on the site, but I've lurked for a couple of years... This kid is about a half hr from me and I plan to attend at least a couple of games. Plays against some of the top talent in northern Ohio, I'll be sure to let everyone know my impression of him...

Damn that presentation they give must be pretty impressive to have Andrus Peat and Mahone bolt us to the top of their list after not even being sure if they wanted to come in the first place. Really wish Watkins and Geno Smith would reconsider.

You don't need to go far. They play GlenOak, Jackson, Hoover and McKinley. I'm sure some of those would be within walking distance for you.

I know they played those teams last year but I'm not sure if his team is out of the Federal League after last year or after this coming year. I'll have to check out their schedule.

Oh, that's right. They left the Federal League at the end of this season.

It was always dumb that Fitch and Boardman were there in the first place. I mean, I understand *why* the left the Steel Valley Conference. At the time, they simply weren't competitive with Harding, Mooney and Ursuline in football and losing to those smaller-division schools killed their computer points.

Still, though. The travel for football is tolerable because it's football, but when you're sending volleyball, softball and goodness knows what else over an hour each way multiple days a week, that's a nightmare. It doesn't help when you've been driving all that way just to get thumped (their basketball team is horrrrrrrible and just can't compete with McKinley, Jackson and the like.)

Austintown Fitch HS- HighSchoolSports.net

That's the schedule their athletic site has listed for 2011. I don't know if that's still in flux, but that should give you an idea of what dates you might be able to hit.

From ESPN:

Four stars isn't enough for William Mahone.

"I want to prove my stars and why I'm ranked on ESPN, but to show I'm better than that," the tailback from Youngstown (Ohio) Austintown Fitch said Thursday at The Opening in Beaverton, Ore. "Never complacent about anything I do. I just want to come out and compete and learn."

Learn about football, well, that's part of it. But also learn about other schools he's considering, like Notre Dame, Michigan State, Pittsburgh, Penn State and Tennessee.

"It definitely helps you out," the 5-foot-10, 210-pounder said of visiting with the 150 prospects invited to the three-day camp. "You get to know more about their (college) depth chart and who they are recruiting at your position, just to see what type of players they are recruiting and getting. They could be here and you could look at them and see how good they are."

Mahone said he's been talking to some of the Notre Dame commitments and it certainly sounds like the Fighting Irish are making a strong push.

"I wasn't really interested before I went there (last month) but when I went there it really caught my eye," Mahone said. "I feel like I could possibly play early if I worked hard."

Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly has an upper hand on some of his competition. While at his previous coaching stop at Cincinnatti, Kelly recruited Mahone way back in 2008.

"I feel like there's a lot of interest there," Mahone said.

The same goes for Michigan State, where Mahone visited two weeks ago.

"Finally got a campus tour and I loved it there," he said. "They run the ball and that's what I see myself doing."

Mahone has been to nearby Pitt about five times and has an affinity for Penn State as well.

"They're really cool," he said. "Joe Paterno was one of the first guys to offer me ... It's really nice there. I really like it. A lot of Youngstown guys from my area are there."

Tennessee coaches wish Mahone felt the same about Knoxville. They're just trying to get him on campus.

"They offered me late but if I can get down there and see what campus is like, maybe they can be a contender," Mahone said.

Mahone said he plans to announce his decision before his senior season, possibly shortly after returning from Oregon.
