These 5 stars haven't gotten us shit in the past 3 years. I'll sacrifice Martin for a good coach. Bye Chris. Have fun seeing ND win BCS Bowls with Stoops/Kelly!

Anyone who didn't see this coming was blind as a bat. Frankly I think his parents forced his hand, clearly from some of those articles, and he didn't like it. For ND to drop completely out is very very telling as to his thought process.

PS: anyone who follows these kids on facebook and the like, really? You have nothing better to do with your time? And while you are going to call me out for posting here about him, my argument is more towards people who think they are actually "friends" of these kids. I am an ND fan, on an ND fan site, this is relevant news.

I have no ill will to the kid, he is a kid after all. Good luck Chris.

It sucks I hope that those recruits that he had help to bring to Notre Dame dont follow his lead and dont jump ship as well

We don't need to say bad things about these kids, or be spiteful. Wouldn't you look at these forums if you were being recruited? I would. As a former NCAA Coach in a different sport, kids do look at these. And why not use these forums as help in recruiting. That is what I am going to do. I haven't been here very long, but sure love it. So, we can now move onto kids that do want to come here. And Nix's commitment is a gift before Christmas. So, welcome Mr. Nix. Now we can be happy that we still have 17 other guys that want to play here. And we should support them, and let them know we want them here!!!!!

Go Irish!!!!!

I love how grown men on a fan site can bash a 17-18 year old.

I love seeing Cali kids at ND and i really liked Chris so it sucks but he said he will wait and see who the hire is before writing ND off.

I will still root for him as long as he doesnt end up at USC

I think the odds of him ending up in ND are still pretty good. His parents obviously love the school and he obviously loves Being in the limelight. He will quickly realize that there is not another school where he will receive even 50% the média attention he has gotten and will get at ND.

Chris Martin Decommits

Chris Martin Decommits

Well...This just sucks...I guess we're all going to have to put our faith in Ianello to talk this kid into coming back into the fold...A small part of me wants to say, if he doesn't want to be here, then fine, we don't want him here...but the fact is, is that we should all want this kid to come here...it seems like over the last few years, we keep missing out on all the big time defensive line prospects; like Gerald McCoy (Oklahoma) and Marvin Austin (North Carolina) to name a few...Hopefully Martin will recommit once we get a coach named, but Ianello can't let this kid stray too far in the meantime...With as poor as we played on defense, Martin could get some serious playing time as a true freshman and could very well wind-up being the "Te'o" of our D-Line for the next 3-4 yrs...Let's hope Ianello can keep him close, and whoever the new head coach will be can get him to come play fot the Irish...Besides, that would be one helluva kid to start rebuilding the defense with...

Watching Chris Martin kill us at USC would be more painful than watching what Jon Baldwin did to us

It's not over till Signing Day, and I am not worried about SC taking him. I think it's Florida and everyone else right now, but I am more than positive that the new coach and his staff will try to bring this kid back.

Yeah i would say Florida is the favorite.

Martin would reconsider ND if Stoops or Harnaugh get hired (mom originally wanted Martin at Stanford and both got along well with him).

Unless its them or Meyer he is not gonna be Irish. Hopefully he still comes to ND but i understand his decision.

Martin told the USC Scout reporters a month ago he was decommitting from ND, regardless of whether we fired CW or not, but he asked them to keep it on the down low, and they kept his wishes. These were their words that they posted online on the scout forum. It had nothing to do with Weis being fired. Remember, it was about a month ago that Martin deleted all ND fans that he had befriended on facebook.

His top 4 are FL, USC, Cal, and OK. ND is out, and I highly, highly, highly doubt we'll ever be back in it. On to the next DE (Anthony Barr anyone?)...

Chris Martin's dad told rivals ND would be in te mix depending pn the hire. I belive Martin took down his Facebook page but i cant confirm because i aint going through all that trouble of facebooking a commit.

I still cant hate a kid for decommitting after the coach is fired, i am actually surprised more kids havent. I find it pretty classless of people to bash a 17 year old for being unsure of his future.

Sucks, Rivals compared him to Julius Peppers. His Top 4 Choices right now are Oklahoma, Cal, USC, and Florida. If we get Bob Stoops as our head coach we might still have a shot at him.

I know he said he would not reconsider ND, however, if I had to put up with the crap these kids do... re: the ND early commit and ND's defense... even if ND was still my 1st choice, I might say the same thing.

MMMmmm.... seems that's what every prominent coach is doing.

On a lighter note and to see if our biased beliefs are correct:

Over/under on him eventually jumping into Top 50 on ESPN? (after dropping ND)

Did this kid ever commit to ND verbal or otherwise? Does a person's word mean nothing? If this is a sign of the character then he is not a ND man. He better hope that he makes it in the pro's because it is unlikely he will graduate from any of the other schools not that degrees from the other schools mean anything. If these kids were making decisions at age 22 ND would have a better chance. Obvioulsy getting a good education and graduating are not high on this kid's list. Good luck staying out of trouble at the other schools.

Woah there killer leave the kid alone. We got rid of our coach; he is completely reasonable to be doing what he's doing.

Also, he's considering Cal Berkeley which I think everyone will agree is a damn good education so please stop saying he won't be graduating and that the schools' degrees won't mean anything.

Good point although I don't know what the FB player grad rates are at Cal or what type of support system the palyers are offered. Just a little miffed and feel like the guy who is dumped right before the Prom for a better option (Marsha Brady).

Martin had been looking for an excuse to decommit for a while, canning Weis just gave him one.

That's not being mean or unfair to him, that's just what it is. He didn't owe us anything(despite his word). He's a kid, he can go where he wants. Let's not pretend he hadn't been backtracking on his commitment for a while though. Facts are facts.

First of all, he told the SC guys he was decommitting over a month ago, whether or not CW was here. That's a statement from the Scout guys at SC. So let's not pretend that Weis' firing had something to do with it. The losing might have, but then again we were 6-2 when he told the SC guys that.

I agree with Jason though...these are high school kids that we are bashing. Martin screwed up...he committed to ND way to early. For some guys, it's OK. For him, it wasn't, it only made things worse because he wanted to be wooed and he wanted to have the experience of being wooed (his words...well, not the wooed part, but he said he wanted to go through the recruitment process). Hey, this decision will affect the REST OF HIS LIFE. He should want to be sure. I applaud him for that. I'mnot happy about the way he chose to go about it, but hell, many of us were knuckleheads when we were 17 with no ability to make such a huge decision without f***ing it up.

As for ESPN...you BearGB, check this out:

Martin was #144 on their list, I think he moved to #111. Well, when news came out that he decommitted, they referred to him as the #16 player overall on Rival's board. Think about that. Isn't that some bullsh*t??? They NEVER refer to Rival's board, because, you know, IT'S THEIR MAIN COMPETITION, but when Martin decommits they refer to it? Why? Because it makes it look it hurt Notre Dame MORE than if they say they lost the #111 player overall! Some of those asshats want to make ND look as bad as possible, even if it gives their rivals free pub. Unbelievable...

Yeah i know better than that. He has been basically decommitted for a while. I guess I was trying to make the point that this doesn't make him a bad person or dishonest.

I agree with everyone that talks about how big a decision this is for a kid. I remember freaking out about figuring out which college I was going to go to and I wasn't even considering football and a future in that. These kids really have to grow up fast. It sounds like he has great family support and I can't think of anything better to guide someone through something like this.
