Great job Cierre. Now all you gotta do is just hold on to that ball this year.

The key, of course, is his hanging on to the pigskin as he shreds the defense on his way to the goal line.

Just sayin'. Just hopin' that he continues to progress in all aspects of the running game.

No doubt...I'm guessing/hoping he's been given drills to solve that...same with our talented comedic #2.

For me, I treat that issue like a water hole in golf...if I'm with a guy who has a tendency to get wet, water is an unmentionable. Same way with fumbles...when I was in my playing days, and a guy got the dropsies, man, you never brought it up.

I guess your post reminded me just how weird I am about that...it is an issue he needs to work on...I know it...but I shy away from it to this day...like Wood would hear me or something...too funny.

I think he runs for ~1,200, personally. I love his game sans the fumbling...

My core hurt while watching that video. Great to see he can catch it one handed hope to see a lot more of that on the field! Great job Cierre! Go Irish!

I'd prefer to see 2 hands on the ball...

Only 15 carries a game?

82 yds a game?

Will Kelly be running the ball less in '11?

Armando had 107 carries injured. Hughes had 68. Is Gray going to pick up most of Allens's and Hughes's 175 carries?

Allen averaged about 15.5 carries a game through the first 6 games when he was healthy.

And that was with Cierre Wood being a very distant backup. Allen was our main back and got a huge bulk of the carries, and still didn't carry the rock a whole lot.

I'd love to see Cierre get more carries and inch close to 20 per game, but I think I see a situation where if we get decent leads in to the second half, Kelly won't run Wood into the ground, seeing as how important he is to the running game.

Anyway, we had 414 rushing attempts last season with sacks factored in. Running the ball a little bit more in 2011 could lead to something like this:

Wood-200 carries
Gray-85
McDaniel-35
Riddick-35
Crist-65
Hendrix-25
Atkinson-15

That would be 460 carries, and 3.5 more per game in comparison to 2010.

I'm not convinced we'll be running the ball that much, but we have more than just Wood and Gray to pick up the slack. ;)

^His hips are amazing.

Which is why he should get the ball near the goal line. He can find holes that others cannot. And he squeezes through them with good power too.

Great post. I tell folks virtually the same thing you just did when they start with the "we need two rb's THIS year" stuff. Except for Gray, all of our backs(Wood, Roberson, hopefully, McDaniel and Atkinson) all have 3 or more years left in S'Bend.

We a bona fide star to replace Cierre and it would be nice to get that player this year but its not the end of ND Football if we dont.

Some of those tosses would have been impossible to catch 2 handed on that swivel. Plus it's more of a workout on that to catch it one-handed. It's more intense on the core especially at the end of a workout. But yes, 2 hands though on the field is mandatory.

I'm just happy to see that someone uses a clock for those morning hours... because I sure don't! :p

I agree, but I think we still have to load up on running backs. If my above post is anywhere close to reality, that's still a lot of carries from non-running backs...although with Riddick being a former RB and Atkinson kind of being in the same mold, it might not seem as bad.

Not that there's a huge problem with that, God knows Holtz platooned the crap out of many of his teams and their runners.

But we have 6,389 linemen on both sides of the ball now and ridiculous depth there. We should be able to boost the depth at RB. And I think we will eventually.

If he compiles those exact stats, I will cut off my foot.

We got a sawbones around here? Cause someone's mouth just got their leg in trouble!

Please, for God's sake, don't tell the NCAA!
