I'm a Raiders fan...

Problem? ;)

Yes. Real Raider fans are just fans. But the Raider image is a gang affiliation over here, and they probably have never been to a game. But they like the badass image. I steer clear away from any person sporting Raider gear.

Worst fans? New Mexico Lobos. Even though I have never been to a football game in Albuquerque, and I really like Albuquerque and Santa Fe and the Lobos, I had to toss that in because NDFANnSouthWest posted a link that doesn't take you to the exact article.

Bastage.

I don't necessarily follow the Lobos or the NMSU Aggies, but I always root for them until they play UTEP. Oh snap, I have never been to a UTEP/New Mexico or NMSU game. What were we talking about?

As one who grew up in schools where Raider gear worn to school was a suspension b/c of the image attached to it at the time... Raider fans are so much better now than they were ten/twenty years ago... mainly b/c they all root for USC now...

Seriously, as a born and raised Oregonian, could not agree with this more.

Based on my own personal pet peeves, I would have to say Oregon fans:

You know how teenagers get a little bit of a taste of freedom and independence, and think they know everything about the world? Oregon fans have gotten a small taste of being a nationally prominent program, and now think that they know all there is to know about College football, after following it for 3-4 years. Amongst the things that Oregon fans "know" are:

1. Notre Dame has always lived off of their name, and hasn't accomplished anything of note on the field since the '20s, when Lincoln was still President.

2. The AP has never crowned a "true" National Champion that wasn't a PAC-10 team. Every single AP poll was a joke, except the one that had USC at #1, even though they didn't even play in the BCS title game.

3. The key to big time recruiting is personalized comic books and Xboxes in each locker, not scheduling big time opponents and beating them on National TV.

4. Chip Kelly revolutionized College Football by introducing the Spread Offense..........2 years ago.

5. Terry Baker was the last University of Oregon Heisman Trophy winner.

The "worst" fanbase is usually the popular team from whatever region you're from that isn't Notre Dame.

Notre Dame might be the least liked team in the country. I cant stand Auburn football fans most annoying fans in the world IMO. If you have rivals account go to the main board its flooded with those clowns.

Again, I think we need to define "worst" here.

Certain fan bases will make you fear for your life in their territory: they will intentionally vomit on you, light things on fire, grope your women, vandalize your cars, etc.

ND belongs no where near the top of any such list.

As its been mentioned before. It really depends where you live. For me, scUM fans are the absolute worst... I cant even go into detail. It's too exhausting.

That's what I keep saying, yo.

State University of New York at Buffalo.

Absolutely terrible, terrible, terrible fans.

Nah, just being sarcastic. Everyone knows Western New York is Notre Dame land!

Also, did you know UB's season attendance didn't match one home game for Notre Dame?

77,883 for Buffalo on the season versus one 80,795 sell out for the Irish. Why we still consider a program like that D-1 is beyond me.

I agree that it's the region your from. Example, a lot of our Irish west coasters, hate U$C, and I've noticed a lot of midwesterners hate scUM.

I hate Michigan fans, because Michigan has a mediocre team and they always play the most cupcake teams to begin their season, like last year, they went 5-0, till they began playing their ranked opponents and didn't beat a single one. They finished the season 7-5 just like ND did, and you know what they say? "AT LEAST WE BEAT ND." They are loud, obnoxious, and just plain thuggish at times. I've been assaulted quite a few times here in south bend by scUM fans while tailgating!

They also have no real "true" fans. They have some stupid guy, who grew up here in Michigan, who's not only a wolverine fan, but also a tigers and Lions fan, which is fine, people can support their home team...but if you want to have a pissing contest with me over who's team is better, please know who is on your team or at least who your coach is. Then we have the little prissy gf's of said douchebags, who want to impress them so they cheer for scUM too, and they have no idea that football is played outside, on a field, all they know is there are pretty cheerleaders who wear shiny things in their hair.

But you can bet, a scUM fan knows more stats, players, past coaches, NC's, bowl appearances, and W's and L's of NOTRE DAME, than the biggest die hard you know from ND!

How can this thread go so long without anyone mentioning BOSTON COLLEGE? I don't think I have ever met a BC fan that was even mildly civil. What a pack of DBs (i.e. not defensive backs).

I don't dislike BC fans for the same reason I don't dislike Purdue fans... I pity them. I legitimately feel bad for them and their inferiority complex. It's so sad. They spend all their time getting worked up about Notre Dame when they're so far down on our priority list.

GQ made a list of the 15 worst fan bases in America.

Four college football teams made the list: WVU (3) > PSU (7) > LSU (10) > Wisconsin (13). I have to believe that OSU just barely missed the cut.

WVU being on that list is ignorant. Because they light couches on fire after games?

WVU fans easily rival other colleges in terms of passion for their team, and win or lose they always fill the stadium every game. (hammered drunk most likely, but damn it! there are there haha)

We need to agree on a definition of "worst"! You seem to think bad fan bases are fair-weather or disinterested. The guy who wrote that article is clearly more concerned by insane, violent and drunken fan bases.

You can make a case either way.

You're.

Goddamit.

Otherwise, nice post. Please hold me.

OMG. I didn't even catch that I typed it like that. I know the difference between your and you're. Here I'll prove it. I have your antlers. You're not the grammar police! :awesomewo Huked un fonicks wurked fer mee!!

Oh yeah another perfect example...yesterday we had a huge BBQ for father's day...I bought my dad the ND 2011 Schedule Tshirt. He pulls it out the bag, and holds it up and is looking at the back. His friend comes over and points to about 4 different games and says, "There's a loss, there's a loss..." and then starts talking shyt about Michael Floyd. To the point he's YELLING over 25 people and about 15 kids, a stereo, and a bounce house compressor. "ND let's this a-hole play and he's got 3 DUIs! Because you suck and need him because he's your star player!" and my dad who is extremely rational and logical, looks at him, folds his hands and says, "Well all teams have their flaws I suppose. Michigan allows players on their field that can't tie their shoes...." I'm sure there was more but that was funny. Michigan fans here will MISS WORK if they lose to ND.

I live in Knoxville, and have to say ut fans are the worst. Not only do they honestly believe they deserve a n.c. every year based on nothing, they are just plain moronic when it comes to talking about sports.if you don't have a conversation about Tennessee athletics then they just won't even talk to you

Plus, didn't TN pass a law that you can't say "Gay" anymore or something? Will I be arrested if I wear my Volunqueers tshirt there?

Half way down the page jsdirish links his exchange (not sure why the link is not working).

I am a Lobo- I played for the UNM Lobos (89 90 91)...and yes the fans are fair weather at Best. UNM is a BasketBall School and a damn good basketball school. It is because they have a solid coach.

As far as the UNM Football Coach he has been on the news for Bar Fights, Sexual Harrasment case, amonst other negativity. UNM could be a decent team if they ever get a decent coach.

As much as I can't stand scUM fans, I've never been so appalled by what I witnessed the one time I went to the horseshoe in Columbus. No offense to you Columbus Irish fans, but the moment I entered the city I had a bad vibe...I went as a neutral observer with a real good friend of mine who is a scUM fan, and he naturally wore his scUM jersey. I get the rivalry and how intense it is, but seriously the way he was treated from the moment we stepped outside the car (someone hurling a half full beer can at him...missing his head by a foot) I somewhat feared getting jumped and beaten by a crowd...and I'm not a small guy. Things were thrown at him/us throughout the game, hateful comments screamed, disrespect at concession stands by UNIVERSITY WORKERS...someone suggesting in the bathroom that we flush ourselves down the toilet with the **** he just took(actually kind of funny, but just pointing out couldn't even go to the bathroom without being harassed)...it was unreal. Top it off its dark coming out of the stadium, I thought we were dead...really. He in no way brought any of it on, keeping his mouth shut the whole time (I on the other hand rifled the 1/2 full beer can back at the people that threw it, they weren't so scary ;) But just plain sickening, and its not like it was just a few isolated incidents, it was constant, non-stop badgering, bullying, threats of physical violence etc...some would argue well yea thats the nature of UM/OSU but no way. I've been 'the' game in ann arbor also and never witnessed anything like I saw go down in Columbus...and I've seen/read about similar experiences on this board.

Its been several years ago but my son and I were given tickets to a game at UT and we went to see the Vols play KY. By far and away the worst experience we ever had and TN won that game. The fans were rude pushing and shoving people getting in and out of the stadium nearly knocked one elderly lady down. Now I am a pretty good sized fellow and my son is about the same size and we were getting knocked around. I could have understood if it was them celebrating but it was just pushing and shoving trying to get into the traffic jam outside the parking lots. During the game was no better I told my son this was two trips in one our first and our last.
It was in 2007 we got our chance to go to ND for the first time. Completely different experience We loved the atmosphere and the whole experience. I think it was the next season I asked my son if he wanted to try to go to Duke and watch the Irish play and he said " Dad after being in South Bend I don't think I want to go anywhere else", So its been home games ever since. We usually try to get up there at least every other year and if we don't make the regular season we try to at least make a spring game.

My personal experience:

GREAT fans: Nebraska, Tennessee, Georgia, Auburn

HORRIBLE fans: Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State, Wisconsin, Cal, U$C

*I have come to the conclusion that the Big Ten houses the worst fans in terms of drunk, rowdy, a-holes that want to talk s--t and start fights all game long. They are the closest thing we have here in the states to soccer holligans IMO.

Southern fans on the other hand are more friendly, laid back, and approachable until kickoff, but once again this is just from first-hand encounters.

Exactly. They have this idea that we hold the same sort of contempt for them while... we really don't care.

The other day, I was discussing where I went to school with somebody and she was like "oh.. my husband went to BC so the Notre Dame v. BC game is always big for him"

And i thought, "ohh.. isn't that nice?"
