Can I ask everyone an honest question?
Why in the WORLD would this kid consider attending Indiana? He is the top rated QB in this class, and one of the top rated players...Does he have a family member that attends there or something? I just can't for the life of me think of any other reason.

Because that is the only school where is he is guaranteed to be the best QB they have or will have during his time there. Because he can be guaranteed to start early in his career. Because it is close to home. Because IU is an extremely fun school. Because his brother currently plays there. Because you can make it to the NFL from any school if you show the right stuff.

The only reason he wouldn't go to Indiana is that they will never compete for a national championship, will probably never compete for a Big Ten championship and a degree from IU isn't exactly the best he could get.

Ok so I was right....family member attends.
That would be pretty pathetic if he, or anyone else went to a really low school so they could be the starter at a bad school.

Not true at all. I completely disagree. People make that choice all of the time:

Jake Locker, Andrew Luck, etc. People can choose to go to a school for whatever reason they damn please. It's not just because he wants to start early... there are tons of factors in play.

You misunderstood what I said.If he has a family member there, that's fine. That's understandable. But if he was only going to a lowend football school so that he would feel like he's the top dog of a lowly program, that WOULD be pathetic.
I realize there are probably other factors...just something to think about.

Yeah if he doesn't go to Notre Dame I'd like to see him at Indiana. Can't do much damage as a Hoosier.

Andrew Luck went to Stanford when they had 4 wins the year before... and 1 win the year before that. Jake Locker went to Washington when they had a whopping 2 wins the year before. Both those records are worse than Indiana's last year.

Blue chip players go to "bad" schools all the time because they think it is a good fit and that they will get early playing time. I now realize that you don't think that's what Gunner is doing; but I'm saying that even if it was there is absolutely nothing wrong with a kid going to a local school where he feels he will be a good fit + "big man on campus." I totally respect kids who go to a down program to try and blaze their own path. There is nothing wrong with trying to be a four year starter and take a program from nothing to something.

you guys are making me feel great about going to IU, thanks azzholes haha j/k

I just can't see him turning IU around though, pointless for him to come here. If he comes it's probly to party with his brother. Oh ya and SI swimsuit model rookie of the year Kate Upton!

Big time recruits go to smaller less known schools to be a big fish in a small pond. Also, these schools can make alot more "promises" like, we guarentee you will be a starter...etc.

Now after saying all that...I am calling his choice right now...and its not IU, UM or ND....it is...

OU!

An IU degree is nothing to sneeze at, either. IU has a ton of great accredited programs and the Kelley School of Business is renowned throughout the U.S. It's not Mendoza and it's not Notre Dame, but it's not like IU is an academic wasteland.

Hmmm, if he went to ND he could go to the Mendoza College of Business while concurrently enrolled in the Kelly School of Football. Nice double major.

Being from Indiana, I can tell you. Kids here really like IU. Good school, legendary basketball program, and a great party school.

Heard that. I spent many a weekend in Bloomington in my undergrad years. Not that GK is likely using that as a major focal point for his recruitment, but it can be enticing.

That describes UNC and UCLA too, but both are better schools in terms of academics, football, weather, and basketball. However, being like home is IU's draw for someone from IN if he actually considers it for football.

Personally, if I was in his shoes, I'd have a top 5 of ND, Stanford, UF, UNC, and UCLA. I'd likely go to Stanford if the team looks like it'll continue to be good with the new coach. If not, then ND. My biggest concern would be having an education to fall back on in case I turn out to be a bust as a QB. Plus, even if I made it to the NFL, I could bust there too.

Why UNC and UCLA?
Neuhesiel (sp?) will probably be fired after this year and UNC is looking at some major sanctions. I get Standford, Oklahom and ND. I also get Indiana as they hired OU's former OC, and they are local.

Was going to announce tomorrow, June 12, but he is not ready and will hold off. Says he will announce his commitment when he is ready.

It's very likely it wasn't going to be ND tomorrow nor will it be ND on NSD. Was going to commit to IU (probably) & I think it has to be them or Oklahoma unless someone makes a strong run (Michigan?).

I have an issue with people thinking ND fans bash other schools because of the academics, in regards to the recruits.
The difference is at ND they do not get the students in to the Kinesiology program or the Parks and Recreation program. They get a meaningful degree.
Many of the schools ND is up against, do.
What school has the most Academic All-Americans?
Nebraska by a wide margin.
I would rather have a ND degree than a Nebraska degree.
