Hello Irish Fans! This is my first post although I am a longtime ND fan who grew up in Northwest Indiana.

Browsing Ohio States committed recruits (and those consideirng OSU), I am hopeful that when OSU goes on probation, some of them switch to Notre Dame. In particular those who attend Catholic schools.

Welcome. You'll find info on individual recruits in the 2012 Recruiting Profiles for each prospect with ND interest. Since this board was started the info has been arranged that way to make it easier for anyone to find it rather than searching through thousands of cryptically entitled threads.

As for the impact of possible probation, be it OSU, USC, Auburn, or the rest of the usual subjects, historically it isn't much of a factor until AFTER sanctions are actually enacted. Until the appeals process is completed the coaches at the school under scrutiny will spin that the restrictions will be overturned completely or partially. USC is recruiting same as usual.

OSU sent a message to the NCAA that's Tressel is Our Man when President Gee said, Fire him? I hope he doesn't fire me. You don't see the Conference Commissioners stepping in to take a strong position. To the contrary, big 10 Commish Delaney intervened with the NCAA to get the Tattooed Five reinstated for their last bowl game.

So why should an 18 year old be scared away from school where the coach will lie for you, the AD and President ARE afraid to take action against a popular coach, and the Commissioner says the ends justifies the means?

Similar to athletes, black or white, that go on scholarship with a school that graduates 50% or less of its student athletes. The coaches spin "will take care of you" and most recruits buy it.

The only way it effects recruiting is if Tressel gets hit with a show-cause penalty.

Now that Tressel's resigned, 13th Legion's original post is surely relevant.

With which recruits does this development most benefit ND? Tommy Schutt was the first one that came to my mind. Can't hurt with Strobel, but word is he was leaning toward going out of state already. OSU was in Odenigbo's top four, but it always seemed the odd program out with ND, Northwestern, and Stanford.

Am I forgetting any?

DE Greg McMullen I think had tOSU on top but he was also high on ND

I honetsly don't think this will have much of an impact on us. It may help with guys like Strobel, McMullen, and Odegnibo but thats it. I don't see ND turning anay OSU commits. If anything this helps Michigan and Nebraska more than anyone

Mike Farrell's 5/30/11 article reviews the current OSU verbals and notes only Dunn is looking and PSU appears likely with him.

Rivals.com Football Recruiting - Many recruits not fazed by Tressel news

Of the other prospects only DE Greg McMullen expressed no shock or dismay noting that other coaches in such situations have ended up unemployed. McMullen further notes that he didn't grow up being a one school fan. Farrell notes that Nebraska is his leader so both may contribute a less emotional response than those of other prospects in denial or dismay.

Kyle Kalis nearly decommits, decides to stick with Buckeyes - ESPN

I'm not an insider, but apparently Kalis is staying with the Buckeyes.

He was practically going to decommit on Monday to show support for Coach T. Fickell made a phone call to him and he was going to tell him then but Fickell talked him into staying committed. He said Fickell made him realize that he would still play for the same staff and this is what Coach T would have wanted.

Kalis really wants to go to OSU...end up living in Cleveland with a degree from OSU but he knows that come the end of the season that this coaching staff may not be there and he said he may...most likely...open up his recruitment. No mention of other schools or plans.

Using current commits as a barometer when sanctions have yet to be decided upon is a bit hasty. The question is how many recruits can they attract from non-pipeline or out of state schools this year and next. Will they continue to be able to fill out their roster with players from Florida (Michael Brewster and Etienne Sabino), Pennsylvania (Andrew Sweat and Dorian Bell), Cincy (Andrew Norwell) and the Mid-Atlantic states?

Agreed. The title of that article "Buckeye recruits not abandoning the program" could just as well been titled, "Buckeye recruits NOT flocking to the program" had it not been written by a Buckeye. It's a Buckeyesports.com article written by the brother of the original owner of IrishEnvy.

My arse.

Give this time, and you will see degradation, guaranteed. It's impossible.

Especially if you consider bowl bans.

Just ask Oregon how greatly they have benefitted from USC in two years. All of the Pac-12 schools will benefitt from USC's sanctions, as well as ND.

OSU will be the same way.

Oregon have been BCS contenders since Joey Harrington was QB.

As for both OSU and USC they will keep recruiting but national recruits will look elsewhere.

OSU has their first defection. '11 LB Ejuan Prince has asked out of his letter of intent. :s::s::s::s: MLB on Scout and ESPN, :s::s::s: on Rivals. He is Dorian Bell's cousin, and the two may look to transfer to Pitt together.

This would not be good news for us. We dont play OSU, we play Pitt. I would much rather have both of those kids stay put. Pitt also has a good rb transferring too, I believe. Pitt is turning into "Transfer U".

Apparently Strobel talked him into it and he is really excited about it, wants to play with guys he knows. Also of note his family are not oSU fans so no issue from them with him going to Michigan.

Mentioned that he wanted to also get to Alabama, Auburn, Iowa, and Miami.

Like you said Lax , bad f'in news.

I for sure agree that it's early, but especially with Pryor gone, OSU might be looking at a 3-5 loss season with an inexperienced quarterback at the helm and Nebraska, Michigan, Penn State, Miami (FL) and Michigan State on the calendar. Plus with ND's stock on the rise *knock on wood* we might see some recruits open their doors again like Lynch did post-FSU verbal. But I agree I am excited to see where these guys and others land!
