honestly i rather see him at safety because thats where he was lights out during the under armor all american game i think

He played in the Army All-American game and remember him getting burnt by one of the East receivers on a corner route for a touchdown. Either though I think this kid will be great where ever he is at but our offense need rbs right now.

Kelly's RBs do plenty of route running, and the pass blocking practice will help as a WR too. His cross-training could work out wonderfully.

Or he might endure the stuttered development that's kept Riddick from taking off.

As far as the HS All-American game was concerned: who was "lights out" at DB, GAIII or Josh?? Josh is the one trained as a DB.

OMM Josh didn't play in the All American game so they were referring to GAIII.

No one was light out in that game it's an all star game and they always favor offense. He got burned once by Miles Shuler.

Yeah, the only opening for GA III was on defense. Not playing it as regularly, he did great! The play you refer to, not sure it was Schuler, was a perfect pass, and a perfect route.

It was Shuler, I remember very distinctly because I was extra pissed because we coulda had him but he decided to go win a national championship at Rutgers.

Hehehehe.. Can't wait to see how that works out. It was like Syracuse telling Ishaq to stay in NY and win a NC with the Orange.

I know a similiar article was posted before, but it is still nice to hear how much he does not care about where he plays as long as he is on the field and can win. Can't wait to see him in action.

South Bend Tribune Atkinson Open to Switch

Finally got around to reading this article... love this quote from GAIII:

"... But because of my stature, because of my speed, Notre Dame liked me at wide receiver. I don’t really have a preference. I just want to get on the field and win.”

Absolutely love the guys Kelly and his staff are bringing in

I liked him as a defensive back although he got burned in the AA game. I thought Cierre was the answer at RB but I guess not. Hopefully Atkinson is the answer

Is there something I'm missing here? Atkinson playing RB would be due to the lack of depth at the position(only 2 healthy players with experience)-not because he's going to take Cierre Wood's job.

Cierre is the answer right now.. Depth is the need. With Roberson hurt it's just Jonas and Cam.. not enough. WR will be fine with Floyd back, Theo, TJ, Goody, Toma, Smith and possible early help from Davaris. Plus Kelly uses his atlethic TEs alot in the passing game.. and we have a few of those.

GAIII is a talented athlete that will excel wherever the coaches put him.. I like the idea of him at RB.

Also, our current recruiting class is filling up with top WR talent, so the move just makes sense.

Welcome to the site. Hope you enjoy it!

As for your post, GA moving to RB has NOTHING to do with CW not being the answer, and everything to do with Cam Roberson getting hurt and the need for depth at that position. Don't look to deep into that move, it's strictly a numbers issue and the fact that GA is a versatile athlete...

Cam's injury is the same as the one he suffered in the Spring. And yes Cam McDaniel is the incoming Freshman RB. Which means healthy RB's are Wood, Gray, McDaniel and no the move of GAIII to add more depth. I am not sure on the time table for Cam Roberson to get back 100% healthy.

Cierre has solid potential, but I do agree with some of the skepticism. GAIII can flat out fly so although I do prefer him in space, RB depth is very important and he can add that depth. I don't think that we can afford not to have him prepared to play RB. I really hope he is back on the outside in 2012.

Cierre stepped up BIG late season last year. AA was a great all-around back but lacked the home-run and honestly didn't hit the hole as well as Cierre seems to.. IMO. Cierre has home-run speed, solid vision and is working on his hands and blocking. Barring injury, he will have a great season. Plus, this offensive line is going to be dominant.

GAIII offers emergency protection, plain and simple.

Too many cams. As long as crist is healthy the offense should do well no matter who's in the backfield

If Cierre can hold onto the ball and stay healthy then I agree that he has huge upside and can rush for 1,000+. I love the Cali backs and that warm weather slashing style so I'm excited to see them both shine. I don't want to see GAIII at RB, unless we are up by 40!

i remain skeptical. Rees nutz is 4-0.

I see why you would argue that. But thE defense played way better when he took over. I just think crist is better if he can stay healthy. I'd love to see golsen get some time as well

I'm not skeptical at all. Dayne was better in just about every category..

I just think Kelly expected him to have the playbook perfect.

Were as Tommy had a dumbed down offense, in which he just managed the game more.

Just my two cents.

Ok, sory I must have missed it where the post was made stating a source that he was going to be switched to RB for sure or not. Can someone repost it cause I've looked a few times and missed it every time.

Thanks

The only thing reported was that Kelly told George to be ready to play some RB this fall. People are now convinced he's a RB.

... I think he plays WR

Thats what I kind of thought as well. Thanks for the clarification.
I'd like to see him usued ala Reggie Bush at both the slot and rb slots, I think he will be amazin in the offense.
