My question is that how come in the ND V scUM game notre dame allways came out last out of the tunnel. as shown here in the video
YouTube - 1988 Notre Dame vs Michigan (IRISH UNDEFEATED SEASON)
but im sure most you remeber the same ND V scUM in 1994 where they were forced to come out first is there a ruleee to that?
and with the band forming the ND at the tunnel is it the coaches discretion if they form it?

anyone else realize how much more intense the slow chant of "here come the irish" is than the new one with the clapping?

I don't think there's a rule about it, but Michigan simply refused to come out first. 1994 was a terrible year, anyway (for some reason it's come up a lot lately) and signalled the decline of the Holtz era.

but if you watched the 1994 game the field reporter said there was a rule that if the visiting team refused to come out first the home team was forced to come out

My next question is, the ND that the band forms for the team is it the coach's discretion?

Neutered is going to explode when he sees all of these punctuation errors, no offense.

pretty sure there is a rule that the away team has the choice to come out when they want... at least I'm almost certain that was the reason for the change first addressed in the TC's question... i remember that being discussed during the 94 game... crazy what you remember years later isn't it??... anyway.

I really, really wanted to steer clear of this, BUT ... the word is "entrance," not "enterance." "Always" has a single "l," not a double "l."

Hell, I might as well commit to a total parsing. I'll be vilified regardless. Recommended changes are in brackets.

My question is that how come in the ND V scUM game notre dame allways came out last out of the tunnel.
[My question is this: why, in the ND v scUM game, Notre Dame always comes out of the tunnel second?]

as shown here in the video YouTube - 1988 Notre Dame vs Michigan (IRISH UNDEFEATED SEASON)
[As is shown in the YouTube video of the 1988 game, an undefeated ND season.

[I'm sure most of you remember the ND v scUM game in 1994 where the Irish were forced to come out first. Is there a rule to address that? Is the band forming the "ND" at the tunnel exit at the coach's discretion?]

Look, I'm an old fart. I bear the scars of many nuns rapping my knuckles for being a wise-***. I did learn a thing or two along the way, though. I am also a lazy ***, so I prefer not having to read posts three times in order to properly interpret meaning and intent.

I grew up in a time of manual typewriters and onion skin, erasable typewriter paper and White-Out. Precision was a must when tip-tap typing. Preparation of the proper text was crucial. Today's conveniences of spell-check and "undo" would have been a godsend.

I inject an editors touch on occasion for the sake of humor and distraction. Hell, were I seriously anal retentive I'd be on Kneuter's "stylistic" haunches daily. Hell, I'd probably be able to tear myself a new one after alcohol induced posts.

Stay cool, roll with the punches and run with the bulls.

You do realize what would happen if, God forbid, you ever made a grammar mistake, right? ;) :eek:grin:

Yep! Fire would rain down upon my *** and I'd be pilloried. Justifiably.

Hell, when it's 3 in the morning and I've consumed the better part of a case of beer or a liter of Jameson, all is possible.

I makes me some mistakes now and again and bend the "rules" at times for the sake of style.

When the moon is in the seventh house and Jupiter aligns with Mars ...

No matter the matter, my mantra is "Keep On Truckin', Keep On Postin'!

I'm gonna need you to go ahead and close the open door you've created with your quotations before all of your "cows" get out, you Minnesotan.

*Emphasis on the way "cows" is pronounced, Minnesotan/Palin style. Speaking of Palin style...

I do like the idea of a slow “ here come the irish" chant. Its time to come up with some intimidating chants to complement our intimidating team. I don't know why but I love the fsu chant!

LOL. I just wanted to make sure you were aware and prepared for it, in a worst case scenario. ;)
So, 3 am is when I'd have to be up and see you make a mistake? *sets watch alarm* mwuahahahah :eek:grin:

lol its awesome you have such a great sense of humor.

(heres a Grammar question for you, if you start a sentence with 'lol' do you capitalize the next word? Does 'lol' have to be capitalized? Is there a comma after it? Should it be its own sentence? I am your grasshopper...teach me, sensai! :) )

Normally I'd say lay off the guy (I have to teach grammar but I still bite my tongue at the many mistakes people use because it's not a grammar contest and Lord knows I make my share of mistakes), but damn, those posts were pretty damn brutal. I'm going to fix the title right now b/c just looking at it on the front page is embarrassing to site LOL (no offense brooklyn...just take a sec to review your posts if you don't want dshans to shake down the thunder on your ***!)

In the ancient Persian civilization, it was considered arrogant for any of us mere mortals to strive to be perfect. It was an affront to the gods. Therefore in every weaving the weaver wove a deliberate errer. This was called "The Persian Flaw", and signified humility. As dshans well knows this, he will make the occasional error, realizing as he does that his humility further establishes his perfection. But of course, we already knew that.

On the other hand, certain posters on the site are walking Persian Flaws. Fill in the blanks for yourselves.

First, I apologize to NDbrbkNY for dragging you into this donnybrook. The blame rests squarely on Riddickulous' shoulders as I see it.

IrishBlood81: "(heres a Grammar question for you, if you start a sentence with 'lol' do you capitalize the next word? Does 'lol' have to be capitalized? Is there a comma after it? Should it be its own sentence? I am your grasshopper...teach me, sensai! )" I dunno.

I've not yet come across a definitive internet abbreviation style book. Hell, I've only recently learned what "lol" means. I assume that it should be capitalized when used at the beginning of a sentence or as a stand-alone comment. If there is a connected comment or statement, a comma would be appropriate, with capitalization of the following word dependent on other grammatical rules. Remember, if used as a stand-alone comment, there should be a double space following the period, with a capitalization of the next expressed thought, comment or statement.

Old Mr. Mikey: I've lived my life as an examplar of The Persian Flaw. That might explain why there's an ex-Mrs. Dshans. She never quite grasped the concept, especially when it came to plumbing and wiring.

nlroma1o: Yer damn straight it's the off season ... laissez les bon temps rouler! I only hope that the good times continue to roll as the season progresses.

I'll look into removing the pole from my *** tomorrow.

Thank God, there is someone on this board that remembers this. Yeah, spooky-scary--like bagpipes in the woods that say--WE'RE COMING TO KICK YOUR ASSES.

Wondered if anyone else remembered. I'll be there anytime anyone else wants to be there, for any game, at any place, to start, soft and low--here come the Irish, here come the Irish, gradually swelling. . .Here Come the Irish, Here Come the Irish, and crescendoing into HERE COME THE IRISH, HERE COME THE IRISH.............unti never ending as the sound of the chant echos into an eternal wave of ***-kicking that cannot be denied.

DOESN'T ANYONE ELSE KNOW THIS? AND LOVE IT?

As to the tunnel--not coming out but going in--I went to ND for 3 years ('77 - '80) --transferred in. There was not one home game that we didn't rush the field after the game and follow the band out of the tunnel, raising holy hell (waking the echos, I guess you could call it), singing the fight song, win or lose. There was magic in the air, and WE WERE PART OF MAKING IT! Any current students do that these days?
