barca/rm:

barca/rm:

another game marred by diving antics and poor officiating.

barca is arguably one of the best teams to ever play the sport, but why do they resort to the diving antics? sergio busquet, pedro, dani alves all need to be suspended & fined for their crap. not saying real madrid didn't dive, but grabbing your face when it wasn't even touched....c'mon.

i hate looking forward to a great match only for it to be ruined by garbage that is completely unnecessary. barca doesn't need help by the ref, they're too good for that, but they still do it and get away with it.

this will be the only time (if it happens) that i'll be pulling for man pu in my life. the lesser of two evils i guess.

^this, except the man u part. I'll never root for them. Couldn't have said the rest better myself. Pedro especially is an overacting *fill in the blank*. I'm hoping for a 0 - 0 draw in the final that gets suspended indefinitely due to the need to use Wembley the next night. What are the vBook odds on that please?

the first goal was nice. a nicely timed run and a well played pomo ball.

as for the 2nd goal.....did you watch the real madrid players? they didn't even bother making a tackle cuz they knew if they did, a card would follow.

the complexity of this game changed drastically after the pepe red card. real madrid had to play tentitive defense cuz the referee was awful. so with that being said....messi still had to make a nice shot, but under the circumstances it wasn't that great of a goal, imo.

it pains me to think like that, but after what i've seen out of barca in critical games....i DO NOT want to see them win the CL trophy. i guess i'm cheering more for a barca debacle than a united win.

i hope jose mourhino plays his entire bench vs. barca & get blown out. that would be the perfect slap in the face to UEFA.

I say if you don't come from behind or don't go high there shoudl be no foul... it would **** off a lot of Euro fans but would bring in many more from regions like ours... and always, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS give the offsides benefit to the attackers... this is supposedly the way it is now... like hell.

Too bad MLS can't adopt the above, they could do it and it would help the sport a ton...

I totally agree w/your assessment of fouls. I read a rather popular soccer book a while ago called Soccernomics and one of the chapters in the book attempts to explain why England is so lousy on the international stage. One of the many reasons the author claims is the English defiance to diving in order to gain calls/penalties/cards. The book makes the point that b/c the Italians, Spanish, Dutch and others do so, they get more opportunities off set pieces and penalties. As an American lover of the game, I can't stand this philosphy which is why I can't stand watching La Liga or Serie A and I watch the MLS, SPL and EPL.

Completely agree with most of this... although to my knowledge... (basically off international play and Champions League) the Germans aren't known for diving either and they are prob. the second greatest soccer nation behind Brazil all other things being equal... I just can't watch Serie A or La Liga... or the Mexican leagues for that matter... just as bad if not worse... the problem is so easy to solve too... just hammer the divers harder, who the hell cares if the name is Rinaldo or Messi... or Gerrard for that matter

;)

Absolutely, the Germans aren't known as divers either and I believe the book touches on that. They disprove the point but also have much better player than the English and MUCH better team chemistry than the English and many other international teams.

completely agree. hit them where it hurts....the wallet & game time. suspend & fine them an exorbitant amount.

what doesn't make sense is that arsenal had a player (eduardo) that was suspended for diving against our beloved celtic (which lead to a pk goal), either last year or the year before......but how come nothing comes of the barca dives???????

i'm guessing partiality.

anyway, the diving needs to be taken care of but fifa or uefa won't do a thing about it....why, you may ask. controversy. both organizations revel in it. i think they believe that brings more noteriety to their respect tournaments becuz more people will tune in to see what's going to happen next (kind of like a soapopera).

I have always wondered if their isn't some Anti- Anglo thing going on with Uefa and fifa... but I honestly don't know much them to do more than just wonder.

you hit the nail partially on the head. platini can't stand barclays premiereship teams dominance over the cl in recent years and his disgust has been documented. so the conspiracy theorists have used that as fuel for their fire over these poorly officiated games vs. barca (chelsea & arsenal).

The Premier Leaugue is the most popular in the world, and if you go top to bottom, it is the best league in the world, but obviously that's debatable. There is certainly an anti-Anglo aspect to UEFA, that is a major reason for the implementation of Financial Fair Play--Platini explicitly stated he was sick of English teams. The officiating is highly suspect, and I'm always wondering how deep the rabbit hole goes, so to speak.

I'd be curious to know if UK teams could just spereate from UEFA or blow the whole thing up somehow... might benefit everyone in the long run...

and by far... English football is the best in the world... but I'd say Real and Barca are clearly the two best teams in the world... just opinion... you could take teams from the Championship or SPL and have them consistently stay in Serie A and other top leagues no doubt in my mind...

i highly doubt that. i've read where the champions league is becoming more prestigious to players than the world cup. i don't want to believe it, becuz i love the world cup, but i can see that happening.

If they are all but openly moving against English teams there is a huge problem that prob. won't get better until delt with though... is this the same general gov. body that kept all Enlgish teams out of CL for years after the Liverpool disaster???...

anyway... big game for Celtic in about two hours

Anyone here play Fifa 11??? man, that game went from able to run right through the D on hard in 09 to a bit harder on 10 to now basically playing pretty freakin realistic to where you have to get real damn creative to beat the D... although I do think the cpu plays way too aggresive this year when you are on the ball it is a pretty realistic title this year... big thumbs up

England could certainly flex their muscle and leave UEFA, but it's just like with the FIFA corruption, things could change, but the big boys would have to band together. If COMNEBOL and EURO said **** FIFA, then there would be genuine change. If England said screw UEFA and wanted to bring about some change, I think it could happen. It's looking pretty apparent that UEFA is against the way England markets their game, Platini has said as much.

Barca and Real are easily the best teams in the world, just look at their wage bill. I certainly agree with that but top to bottom the Premier League is the best, so we are in agreement there.

I have been playing FIFA 11 since the day it came out. I'm pushing towards 1000 games. It is challenging, but its not unbeatable. There are plenty of flaws that upset me about it, and the lack of after purchase support is the most glaring. So many bugs and glitches with Career Mode, the basis of the title, just make me want to drown puppies. Player growth has been jacked and there was one, count it, one bug fixing update after release. Biggest game in the world and it gets treated worse than purely American games like NCAA and Madden.

I havn'et gotten into manager mode yet because I am waiting for PSN to be back up so I can get roster updates...

BUT... in just looking at it I can't see how you scout in this year's game... where do you get young talent?

explain the "basis of the title" comment...

Ouch, that hurts.

I meant there is no scouting. You have a thing that tells you a player's potential for growth once you have them. You don't start growing til 22 I think, so young talent is impossible to develop, because even if you start them, they won't progress until they hit that 22. Then prime is from 24-28, then regression starts around 30. That means you can you can only give them minimal minutes and they'll degress if they don't play. In essence, it sucks, and you're about to find that out.

This info is from the official Fifa forums where there were dev chats. A lot of stuff on there if you're interested in some of the more glaring problems. Support was just terrible, they released one update for the January transfer window with minimal actual gameplay fixes.
