Woolybug, I think that he was trying to point out that when you click on the link you provided from Scout that it said Leinart was the #1 QB for the NFL draft in 2006 not the #1 QB when he was coming out of HS. No disrespect intended with my first post.

Wut? Are they considering Vince Young an ATH or something? Last time I checked, Leinart was the second QB picked and he certianly wasn't rated by NFL scouts higher than Young either.

Agreed, he was the 2nd QB picked, but I think in their predraft ratings they had him rated as their #1 QB.



As for Mauk vs Kiel, I will take either. I have a slight preference for Kiel because I think he is more polished.

Look at the title of the ranking you linked. It says, "2006 Scout.com NFL Draft Rankings."

Sorry, but how is Mauk only marginally better than Morin??? C'mon man, when you say things like that it shows your complete bias against Mauk. It's like me saying that Kiel is only marginally better than Cyler. It's ridiculous. Morin has exactly zero offers. The old staff at Colorado offered him, but the new staff made it clear he doesn't have an offer. Mauk has several offers including Missouri (Look at how their last 2 QBs have fared and they are about to have a top 10 QB drafted - they know QBs) Notre Dame (enough said), and Michigan (also a very good QB school). And from what I've read he'd get more offers but teams know they won't have a shot with him. I mean, it's not even close.

Now, Morin is the heating up and his love for ND makes him attractive, but don't let that cloud you on the difference between he and Mauk. The latest eval I read on Morin is that he has good accuracy and a nice release, but he doesn't have great arm strength and he isn't the athlete that Mauk is. At this point, there is no way you can say Mauk is only 'marginally better.'

I'm with you on this (and agree with developing any Fr. qb at least a year behind someone more experienced). I think people sour on Mauk because of his brother, Ben. Ben never lived up to his potential at Wake. Ben won the two biggest awards for Ohio as a hs player--Mr. Football and Gatorade POY. Once he got hurt and was replaced, Wake went to the Orange Bowl. With Ben at the helm, Wake never went better than 4-7. Ben seemingly floundered for the most of his collegiate career, though played well at Cincy under Kelly. But seeing his replacement play so well made everyone think it was less about Ben Mauk than Kelly.

If Mauk can imitate his brother, then I'd be happy to take him. Regardless, Kiel is my preferred choice. Kiel just seems so much more polished.

I think Kelly likes to get one QB per recruiting class. Just to keep the balance of the classes.

i believe last year showed how kelly is not going to take a qb unless he's the right fit for our system...it took awhile last year to land one and we got one he thought fit's our bill correctly and looking forward i think he'll use the same logic. if there's no one out there that he likes and we are not in a dire position of need, then he will be content to not take a QB.

You've made your point abundantly clear that you think (basically) that he sucks. We get it. Why not leave it at that? It's cool to covet a recruit (I think everyone knows who I'm talking about LOL), but you've made some comments that cross the line, esp when talking about a 17 year-old kid that OUR coaching staff thinks is good enough to play for ND. Do you not believe that recruits and their families read this site? And while this is not his recruiting page, the title does include Mauk's name, so it's safe to say that family members would click on this thread.

He dropped in the rankings because of his size (SHOCKER!!!!). So did Colt McCoy. So did Doug Flutie. So did Drew Brees. So did Everett Golson. Rankings aren't everything. Yes, overall the 4 and 5 stars tend do better, but it's not even close to being 100%. No one on here is saying they don't want your man-crush, Kiel. What they are saying is Mauk is talented, and more importantly, talented enough in the coaches' eyes, to play QB at ND. You disagree...WE GET IT. Be an adult and let it go. He's a friggin' kid.

Then everyone wants to jump down my throat every time I explain why I want other QB's instead of Mauk. Usually, like your post, it is not backed up with anything but insults towards me but somehow "I need to grow up".

I haven't tried to go after the kids character (like many others have) or wished ill will towards him, I just disagree with us recruiting him. If Kelly was recruiting you or NDinLA as a QB for the class, I would point out your flaws too.

I know I have nothing personal against you.

But on Mauk, I have a problem with SOME of what you have said. Calling the possibility of Mauk signing with ND your 'worst nightmare' is callous towards an ND recruit and way over the line. And your subsequent posts about his ability (or lack-there-of) point to a borderline obsession on proving that you are right and that Mauk is not worthy of being an ND QB. On your previous post saying that Rivals doesn't have him in their 250, it seems that all you want to do is happily stick a fork in this kid. Seriously, you seem (through the power of the Internet LOL) almost giddy that he wasn't ranked highly by Rivals. (and just so you know, quoting Mike Farrell doesn't mean sh!t to many of us - dude has been pathetically wrong soooo many times. I actually like the guy, but he is by no means a guru.)

So like I said...we get it. You're not a Mauk fan. This tread was dormant for a couple of weeks before you had to bring it to life just to brag about how right you were about Mauk dropping in Rival's rankings. I mean, seriously? Oh, and about Rivals, I read that they have 0 national guys covering the Midwest, 1 covering CA and one covering TX, and 3 (!!!) covering the Southeast. So if you aren't a huge recruit going to every camp to make a huge name for yourself and you're from the Midwest, do you really think you're going to be highly rated???
