Article on ESPN this morning on him. Don't know the extent of the ND interest at this point, especially the position we are in with both Kiel and Mauk, but we certainly have this kid's attention:

ESPNU 150 Watch List QB Matt Morin (Temecula, Calif./Chaparral) will be a three-year starter next year and is hearing from schools from all over the nation.
"Colorado offered me my sophomore year," Morin said. "I'm also hearing from USC, UCLA, Auburn, Alabama, Notre Dame, Cal, Miami, Oregon, Washington and Arizona. Growing up, I was a big Notre Dame fan and that's still my top school right now. I also like Washington, Cal, Oregon and Auburn, that would be my top five right now."

The dual-threat quarterback threw for 1,700 yards and 17 touchdowns, while rushing for 292 yards and three scores last year.

"Academics and style of offense are most important to me in picking a school," said Morin. "I'll be doing some camps over the summer but I'm still trying to figure out exactly where right now."

Still very high on ND, but his chances of getting an offer are very slim. He was at USC's spring game yesterday.

The fact that kids like this have us in front without even an offer, shows that we have great options this recruiting cycle. We will get a good QB this year, mark it. The staff will have the unique luxery of being able to miss on any inparticular QB prospect, and still land a very good player for our already stacked QB depth chart.

Much of his highlight film was filled with average plays like bubble screens and 6 or 7 yard runs. Film doesn't show too much IMHO.

That was the only clip I could see. In general, the whole thing is very low-budge. I think his coach wanted to put something together to show footwork and fundamentals, hence the slow-downs throughout it. He definetely should put together a better video, but he hasn't been hyped to the level of Kiel and Mauk yet.

Overall, even though the plays are simple, you do get to get a good gauge of his mechanics. That is certianly something definetely missing off of the Mauk highlights.

Dudes - I am by no means saying that we should offer this kid, but he deserves a page. If we start missing on our bigger targets (ie Kiel, Mauk, Cyler), then we may end up with a kid like Morin. That's not a bad thing. In fact, I think it is very positive that kids of this talent level are putting ND in the lead, even though they haven't been offered. Kelly has said that he prefers to take a QB every class, and if we miss on Kiel, I wouldnt be upset at all about adding a kid like Morin to our already stacked QB roster.

There is something about a kid that wants to be at ND, and knows that he'll have to sit and learn and earn his spot. I know that everyone is really high on the Maulk/Kiel ride right now and I'd love to get one or the other but it couldn't hurt to have some more choices especially since these kids have yet to play their senior season.
